This isn’t on Microsoft. LOTS of their games allow 2 local players to go online. This is purely on Capcom.
Here’s a thought.
Sony paid Capcom an even more ridiculous amount of money to have them disable local online teams on the 360 so only the PS3 could have it.

i thot that to but some guy claiming to make games said it was hard to do this on the xb.
seemed legit.
TWEET PEOPLE!!!
Yeah, that is kind of BS of them. It sounds like their tech guys didn’t quite deliver the correct message to the mouth pieces of the company. I didn’t buy MK9 so I don’t know exactly how the feature works but if what Capcom said is technically true at all then the MK9 team probably figured out a way to allow two characters to be controlled but using only the 1 gamer tag. What Capcom seems to want it two players with different accounts to be able to log in so others know who they are playing against. So what Capcom said may be slightly true even if it’s not a fully correct depiction of the situation…it’s more like they won’t do it because it doesn’t fulfill their vision of how the mode should work. That’s just a guess though so don’t take it as factual.
Microsoft’s gamertag system has been around for many years. It is the responsibility of the gaming companies to make sure that their games are compatible. If this were truly impossible, it should never have been advertised in the first place. This is not Microsoft’s fault. Capcom has been developing games for them for years and should have been aware of the way the unit functions. The problem is on Capcom’s end for not finding a solution, or not creating the proper mechanics in the first place.
No I still don’t think it is. Its not that the 360 is not capable of local co-op to go online. Its that it costs money to implement these things on a game to game basis. But Sven will never tell you that, thats why they say it was an odd “oversight”. You have to get servers that work with couch co-op - online and make M$ or $ony activate their servers to allow it. As Microsoft has proven already they don’t give a flying fuck about this game so I’m inclined to lean towards that its mostly Microsoft that is to blame with a small part of Capcom not pushing hard enough to get it in. I’m sure now Capcom is saying “See Microsoft, we wanted Master Chief and Marcus Fenix in there too, but you wouldn’t budge!” Its a money thing, always is.
If tons of freaking XBLA games support couch Co-Op online, you really think it’s a money issue with Capcom not wanting to fork it over?
The reason I believe it had to be on MS is because of the evidence showing that Sony put more money and effort into it. Considering that every gaming company struggles putting games on the PS3 whereas its 10x easier on the 360, you would assume couch-cop for 360 is a no brainer. In addition that is how Capcom advertised it originally and pushed this feature heavily in their ads. And then of course there is the fact that Sony is getting 2 versions, 5 (3) exclusive characters, and even more advertising for PS3 with random ad junk like that PS Home mini-game and costumes. Microsoft pretty much got nothing.
Im just theorizing though, only Capcom knows. I just feel there was some sort of disconnect between Capcom and Microsoft here, not sure why.
I feel like there was a bigger disconnect between Capcom and their fans / customers with what they were selling myself.
You obviously did not read the article that was linked in the first post. The OP could have actually quoted it as to avoid posts like yours but you should probably learn to read the articles before posting
COD games let you have a 2nd player and they do nothing new.

This is from the Official Xbox Magazine. Love their tweet about it “Local teams can’t compete online in Street Fighter X Tekken, despite what the manual says. That makes us a bit cross:”
nobody remembers mike and gootecks “InKredible adventures” with mk9 online co-op? Cmon Capcom
sent him a message.
So Capcom advertised a feature and then expected Microsoft to pony up the dough for it? And when they didn’t pay for it, Capcom continued to act as if the feature was in the game?
Yeah, totally is MS’s fault.
Pretty much. What I think was Capcom’s fault was they forgot to take it off the 360 label I mean that’s a HUGE oversight, doubt that’s what Sven meant. He probably meant “We forgot to remove the disclaimer on the cover saying it works on 360” And as you can see thats how it works. Sony payed up and got twice what MS is getting. Capcom is far from innocent here, just saying we should share the blame
Also Sony is to blame to for hawking exclusives.
man this thread should have 5 pages by now, everyone needs to tweet this guy or he won’t care.
Small indie games have couch co-op though. It’s inexcusable for a large triple A company like Capcom to not spend the man power and money on it. I laugh when I play couch co-op with my wife on South Park Tower Defense with my friend and his gf and then realize I can’t invite my friends over for some team SFxT play.
So Capcom needs Microsoft to pay them when XBLA titles can have pair play? Why the fuck should we blame Microsoft for not hanging on Capcom’s balls, or blame Sony for paying for exclusive characters when the problem here is an exclusive game mode?
Let’s be honest, the only ones who are at fault here are Capcom, for not being able to implement something that was expected yet being able to program on-disc DLC, and their marketing department, for acting as if the 360 version still has pair play. We should not “share the blame” because it’s Capcom’s responsibility, as the developer, to make sure that their games function as advertised. It’s not Microsoft’s problem, nor is it Sony’s.
