I think smash kids is the main complaint. There was only one tourney at Gameclucks that had tons of smash kids there, every other time has been fine. Some of them actually gave SF a shot and played a few matches, which I think is kinda cool on their part. The other possible complaint could be the drive?
I think if we could work something regular out with Play N Trade in Kirkland that would be pretty sweet, though I haven’t been to that either.
edit: I think a lot of the benefit of ahving a singles tuornament at the same location before TWs is not only so that we dno’t have to go out multiple nights to get good playtime in, but it also helps us bring more money into the venue so taht we can keep it and maybe even expand things there eventually.
the 21+ rule is understandable. but its dissapointing that there are basically no tourneys outside of tournament wars that people under 21 can go to. Carlos, if your thinking about getting some kind of event together, im down to help.
Yeah I would view the TW singles as a simple, “get people in here early, buy food/drinks and entry fee, build a little more money for tips/venue” sort of a tournament. Nothing too major to miss out on due to your parents not fucking a couple years earlier.
Not a high-competition tournament or anything. Clearly we all hunger for one, but this isn’t it. The focus, at least this is what I thought these were going to be, is still on the TW main event. This was just another way to get people to give back to the venue, while still doing what we love.
I think if we get a good thing going with the pre-funk tourneys for Tournament Wars, I will see what I can do abuot finding a venue for Friday nights once a month or something.
I am hella hungry for a singles tournament. Thinking that I had to wait so damn long for my next match to get another chance at competeting was killing me on Saturday.

And in regards to the restraunt. As people said, it doesn’t close until 10pm. I’m sure people don’t want to st down and try to enjoy a meal while we are in the restaruant taking up chairs and booths for SFIV.
I do want to say one thing though, tournaments isn’t what will make you better: back in the marvel days there was only 1 tournament a month. That sure wasn’t the reason why Rat took top 8 in marvel for Evo in 2k2 and Kuan in 2k3 and jmar in 2k6 and Row taking 2nd and 3rd in Evo 2k2, 2k3 respectively.
All it takes is sessions, sessions is what’s get players better. That’s what the casuals were for after tournament wars. But people turned that into money matches and shunned out a lot of players. Also people not bringing extra set ups (minus jodo) isn’t helping either. Now with Tekken 6 in the Season, I can’t just comidate SFIV anymore I have to comidate both games, and what we need is more setups. At least with the pre tournament it’s going to make people bring setups so there’s that.
You don’t need to have money on the line to get better. I really hope people understand that.

The only problem with people who would want to use pads is that I never bring mine when I bring my setup.
In for the 10 to 20 dollar buy in the hell with 1 dollar go play a redemption game for that shit.
Or - we could stick with 2$ for this week because we are just starting it out and want to make sure we can pull off a decent/prompt tourney in the lounge and we will likely have issues doing so atleast the first time or two. Price will likely go up, but not until we’ve got it organized/worked out.
This really isn’t going to be a massive singles tourney - eventually we may be able to upgrade it some more, but we are looknig at about 16 players AT MOST right now. Depending on setups/etc we will likely expand on that. and ejdge is looking into the possibility of having a more dedicated/larger singles tourney at UW. I’ll try to look around for venues/etc on my free time but really can’t promise anything more right now.
If it works well this week, we’ll probably raise the price a bit for next week, though I’d like to keep it 5-10$ in the long run.
