I seriously don’t think Zero is top-tier. Upper tier to be sure, but I think he’s going to be so over-played that in two months time, everyone will have figured out how to counter all his tricks. Give it a few months before the tier arguments begin, for all our sakes.

alex can hyper bomb of blocked elbow slashes and flash chops and once he does the super flash of hyper bomb in your face “you can’t escape!” trust me you will get smacked by a good alex player if you’re not careful. alex is different in this game. trust me i know a very damaging simple combo with him. be very careful with alex or you WILL PAY!
Upback nerf plus hyperbomb change plus wallbounce elbow plus 2b low and better blockstun = alex is good now. Especialy online where pushblocking a jab is actually a matter of luck.
The Alex stuff has a lot of potential but I just don’t see him being like S-tier rape everything quality in a character. Maybe he will destroy certain characters but I can’t picture him being able to handle runaway that well and he still needs you up close and on the ground to work his guaranteed setups.
I think he’s stronger for sure but saying he’s S-tier means he has no bad matchups and just looking at the character you can tell he’s not a “no bad matchups” kind of character. I would love to see someone use him to his full potential though.
Unless it’s for tournament purposes, you usually don’t factor in popularity in tier charts.
While a perfect tier list wouldn’t include popularity, most do. This is because there has usually been a lot more found out about the popular characters than the others.
hence why Ryu, the most popular character in Street Fighter 4 isn’t top tier. Right?
When I play against an Alex player, I play him like the same way I play the giants. Being as safe as possible from a distance, cause blocking against Alex is a bad idea most of the time with his many powerful grab attacks that are unblockable… and expecting him to dive to grab, and coming up with a strategy to counter his dive move… character specific of course.
I thought the way to counter his dive was to block, or can he cancel into throw or something?
I don’t think he means strictly “popularity” so much as “frequency of use.” Underused characters will probably show up lower on the tier, simply because the people making the tier lists don’t face many good players who use the “unpopular” characters.
For example, I don’t think anyone who’s played Super Turbo for any reasonable length of time would diagree that Dee Jay is one of the most versatile, “best” characters in the game. He has possibly the lowest number of straight terrible matchups this side of Balrog and Ryu. But he simply isn’t played as much as they are. So there is less knowledge about how to properly utilize him, and fewer players who do. Hence a mid-tier ranking.
Popularity factors into a tier list, just not the way you’re thinking it does.
While Alex is diving toward you, he can buffer his grab while in the dive animation, so even if you block his dive attack, he will grab you very quickly after, since grabs are unblockable. The counters to this is using Advanced Guard, Variable Counter, or some cross over move, or using a certain move that out prioritizes Alex’s dive, like maybe certain characters shoryukens/uppercuts, or certain partner assist’s that are anti air moves.

Seriously though, Frank is really good, but i’m pretty sure he won’t be on top.
I think Frank is one of those characters that has to have an assist, unless you can 100% someone nearly every time you touch them. He gets rushed the fuck down from above his head in my experience. I do think he’ll end up real good though once people get his OTG shit going.
alex is not top tier because he has weaknesses but he’s a better character than people give him credit for. alex is not top or bottom but i think he’s going to be mid-high. he’s not so popular but i think he’s ok. he can definitely put the hurt on you in seconds though.
