TvC Prefered Tournament Rules: Discussion and List

Just pick random characters, exit out, and go back into VS.

in the event of a freeze would it be a good idea to set handicaps so that both players have lower health? to speed things up.

also i thought about the yatter toss. if you win the coin toss pick 1p yatter win the game lose the toss next round do you have to play as 2p yattter? I am not sure exactly how much of a difference having yatterwan makes but it might be big enough that pelican isnt worth playing.

There’s going to be a TvC Tourney (as well as other games) happening in France, 9th and 10th of May. I’ll double check if they will be using the arcade version or the Wii version and the rules.

EDIT: its on Wii and I’ll find out the rules when they are posted up.

So we’ve got a tournament at the end of February. These are the rules I posted. Feedback is welcomed.

[
]any battery/remote/stick failure or pause will result in a loss of the round
[/LIST]

Feel free to bring Wiimotes but I’m going to try to have 2 dedicated to the system. Please keep your own remote away if you’re not in a match.

Sorry, the click here’s aren’t hyperlinked from my copy paste. Does anyone have a link to the Megaman/Joe glitch? I can’t find that shit again.

I dont see a reason to make the winner keep character order, as prematch switching is a built in animated part of the game. Otherwise, looks good.

I’ve never managed to recreate the Megaman/Joe glitch. It must have to be done at a very specific point during the machine gun super because any random attempts I’ve tried in arcade mode have failed… Unless it’s vs specific, I can’t see it popping up often. The Casshern glitch on the other hand, damn that thing sucks…

Banning wireless controllers is pretty retarded…everything else sounds nice and fair.

I agree.

TvC seems to have a small community for a game that some view as the new MvC2. Banning wireless controllers we would be banning the majority of the Wii owners. It is a move that goes directly against attempts to make the community bigger. Basically, we would be saying that not only you need an import to play at home, but even if you just want to play tourneys you have t get rid of your Classic pad or Wii stick and buy new equipment. That’s not a good way to bring in people that aren’t into the game as much.

Wireless helps keeping the game alive and strong. Let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot.

The already posted rules are great IMO

I think the only way to effectively deal with the wireless issue is to keep a tight lock/watch over the wireless controllers. And how effective that is depends on the TO.

There were a few things suggested before that sounded like good ideas. A lot of them work, there’s really no reason for banning them. People seem to love enforcing minute things with a “put up or shut up” attitude. If something as simple as syncing wireless controllers will heavily distrupt the tournament for you then maybe organizing and running tournaments isn’t your thing…

You should be able to use any controller you want as long as it isn’t plain broken, like turbo controllers, customizable macros, etc etc.

Thats a naive thing to say. Wireless controllers have been and remain ridden with problems. The larger the tournament, the more apparent these problems will become to you.

Plain and simple, its up the to tournament director. Does he want to lose possible participants for the sake of a (possibly) much smoother tournament without wireless controllers, or does he want to take the risks allowing wireless brings to get a slightly larger attendance?

I really think the 2 dedicated wiimotes for every wii thing that’s been stated 3 times this thread deserves more consideration.

Quoted for logic.

Having dedicated remotes is probably the more sensible solution because they’re always at that station, and with the right tool, they cant be touched. If the console is out in the open, so are the controls so someone cant try and be sneaky and mess with them.

Yes, and let the tournament organizer or the person responsible for that station’s Wii hold them when nobody is using them so that they don’t get stolen.

While I think it would be impossible for the Joe player to get a bomb over by Megaman during the startup of his super (since its nearly instant) it would be very possible for the Megaman player to do it in response to every bomb near him, whenever hes losing. So its pretty much always the Megaman player’s fault. Same with Doronjo’s treebomb.

the rules sound legitimate except for keeping the order when the match starts. what if someone just chose there team and wanted the second character first but happened to chose the other character first. i think having what character first is strategy and shouldn’t be banned.

Especially if one of your characters is counterpicked by your opponent, or if your partner counter picks your opponent’s character. No one wants to send a character to fight another one who both clearly can tell is at a disadvantage.

That…and it’s part of the game to be allowed to switch at the beginning. In a 2v2 game it’s sort of stupid to force the first character chosen to always be “first”… I mean if you don’t switch at the beginning you’ll just switch as soon as you can anyway so you might as well be able to do it during countdown.

Stupid and unnecessary rule imo. If Capcom didn’t think it was fair they would not have it enabled.

You guys are misunderstanding the rule. I still may change it, but you still are misinterpreting.

The rule does not state that you can’t change characters before the match, it says that winner must keep the same order. This is the same rule that’s been used in Marvel and CVS2 for years and has everything to do with counter picking. Both people can pick whatever order and switch to whomever at the beginning of the first round. If you win, and I counter pick the character I had trouble with (which you started first last round), and then you can switch at the beginning of the fight, my point character may then be countered by your other.

There is still a legit strategy there without the rule, but team based capcom games before this have used this. I’m still undecided personally.

Ah I see. It’s like the keeping the same character you won with rule. It’s fare to give the loser somewhat of an advantage in the next match. In that case it’s a good rule. Sorry about the misunderstanding, in that case it’s very much needed. We do the same thing in smash when it comes to counter picking stages/character. It’s a little bit more intricate since stages actually matter in Smash but the emphasis on giving the loser a tiny advantage is still the same.

I would suggest go with it. It’s like this for any kind of competitive thing, whether it be sports or games. The loser always has to have some sort of small starting advantage so as to deter landslide victories and to promote comebacks.
