TvC [ Netcode Feedback ] Thread

I’m on wired. Played about ten or so matches in Free/Ranked. Some laggy ones, otherwise not too bad.

Last match I played though, OH GOD, it lagged so bad that I just gave up and mashed random buttons till it was over.

PS: Fuck laggy Megamans.

edit: So people are hooking into the wifi router? I’m hooked into the DSL modem itself. Hooking to the router makes it better?

edit2: Friend match I had with Magnifico (who’s in the same state) was pretty perfect. Think I’ll just stick with Friend Matches most of the time.

yeah ours was nice, and I’ve been having good connections with others from cali on wired connections as well. At it’s best, the netcode is pretty damn good. But random matches are definitely a very mixed bag…

I finally got online today and yeah, it was a mixed bag. Had a couple that were good, a bunch that were bad, a couple that were downright awful. I’m gonna try to build up some friends/rivals/whatever so I can guarantee decent matches.

Online is starting to frustrate me. On the first day online, I had one match where it was near flawless while all the other ones lagged badly. From then till now, I’ve almost always had laggy matches despite having a wired connection. Anyone know if there’s anything I can do if I plug my ethernet cord directly into a jack in the wall?

It is said that setting your Wii on DMZ (from your router) helps although not guaranteed to fix it for you.

I would do that but I’m not sure how to access the router since I’m in a dorm

I see. I’m not sure what else you should be doing.

Forwarding the ports on my router really helped a ton with the lag on games. Most games only have slight lag and hiccups from time to time, which is awesome.

What is not awesome, however, is wifi in general. I play very timing specific characters (vJoe) so those lag hiccups cause me to drop combos constantly. I sometimes lose to people who are far worse than me when the lag is beyond the tolerable level because it is too hard to do precise inputs.

Does anyone know how you would go about forwarding ports with an Apple airport express router?

that could have something to do with your troubles as well. who knows who’s uploading and downloading an ungodly amount of files while you’re trying to do an air combo

Gave up on the online after 5 games. All games were hopelessly unplayable to the point that it was impossible to even link 2 moves; playing as Zero and Karas this means I might as well go order a pizza while whatever scrub on the other end spams jabs or something. Ports forwarded, and using adapter.

My favorite part of TvC online:

The online play in this game vividly reminds me of Castlevania: Judgment (not a very well known game but I was 3rd on the online ladder in that game for a while so it’s something I’m very familiar with) and what you just posted was a rampant problem in that game; it’s what made me quit actually because in the end whenever I would win my opponents would pull and it was the only reason I never reached #1. CV:J didn’t lag nearly as bad as this game though.

Just had a more recent match. Definitely better than my initial experience as my lag was at a minimum. DMZ Hosting my Wii might have contributed to it.

I’m not certain, but I could’ve had an international match and there was some lag, but not horrible enough to ruin the experience. Once again, playing on LAN adapter.

most of my matches are rather playable. meaning I can bbq and do raves without too much lag interference. i do get some bad ones here and there though, but i dont think its my connection. im wireless, forwarded ports and DMZ’d. i have a lan adapter coming in the mail too to make it ever better. friend me if you want a good match.

Played about 50 matches so far and it’s been about SF4-quality to me. I’m on wireless and have my Wii in my router’s DMZ. Just played a set of friend matches from West Virginia to Ontario and I’d put them at about 4-bar SF4 level. Not too shabby all in all, so long as people have their shit set up properly.

Performance can be really inconsistent, though. I’ve been matched with some players that are fine for one match, and then on the rematch there is literally 1 whole second of input lag. Fortunately not too common.

Dunno if this user goes on SRK, but to the guy I was playing for a while on TvC online and made my rival, we had some sick games man, was fun to play ya. Your yatter2/blade team was nasty, hope you enjoyed as much as i did. We had a pretty quick and stable connection.

The disconnection problems are really pissing me off…
I never quit any game and it’s still ME who’s being blame for that. I went from 81% to 78% victories today just because this game’s online is fucking bullshit ( thanks Nintendo for the stupid wireless connection BTW ).

Not to forget that i’ll surely end up being flagged as a rage quitter too… -__-

Nvm.

I’m surprised you guys have run into so many quitters.

I have done around 40 or so matches and only had one disconnect so far. He was in the middle of a combo though so I doubt he pulled.

Then again I just hit 900 BP so maybe the lower ranked players aren’t as ragey.
