Truth about Capcom "balancing Games"

There’s my answer.

Wow. Are you serious? You mad?

Dude, every game has had some sort of imbalance. It’s pretty much a given fact that the only way to have a perfectly balanced game is to have characters with exactly the same movesets. Do you want that then?

As long as there is a different playstyle per character, there will be imbalances, which makes the game interesting.

And Sagat is broken in this game? Um, right. Didn’t he drop from #1 to A tier? And in EVERY game? He’s mid-tier in A2, so there goes that theory.

And didn’t Fei-Long go from trash to mid-tier in this game?

Oh God, and charge characters are “broken” in this game? Not even one year ago, people were saying charge characters were worthless in this game. They get boosts and now they’re broken.

Mortons: stay salty.

The speed of SSF4 depends 100% on which characters you choose.

Dictator got a boost to make him more competitive/not free vs. many of the good characters in this game?! Oh man, where?! where?!

Just poking fun.

Why does character balance matter so much to people? It’s not like that’s what dictates what a good game too much or anything. I mean it’s easy to see why people find it annoying, but it’s superficial compared to the actual mechanics of a game.

Because some people like having the choice to play whatever character they want, when they want…instead of being told by the game who we have to play if we want a snowballs chance of winning.

We don’t play fighting games, we play characters in fighting games. You can’t talk about the “mechanics of the game” without talking about the characters.

And, that’s what “balance” is. An larger selection of viable characters.

The larger the selection of characters, the greater chance you have of finding a character you find fun.

So, in a way, yeah, balance CAN dictate what a good game is.

you’re gay and what you just posted is why fighting games suck. if you want to live vicariously through an anime maybe you should go watch one or someth??

and for the record shithead i am pretty sure a game is balanced if we both ahve the same decision trees available to us or something because like nothing is stopping you from picking ryu against ryu instead of honda but wait youre a dumb masturbatory escapist who lives in a make believe world. get real

I’m not talking about the characters in terms of “story” or “personality” or “anime” or anything like that.

I’m talking about finding characters with an enjoyable (i.e. FUN) play style.

Lol, way to jump the gun there.

For example, if you have a roster full of unique play styles from rush down, to zoning, to grapplers, to aerial, projectile based, etc, etc…but, imbalance makes only a couple of playstyles truly viable, then that is problematic. The game suffers as a result.

negative balance has never been an important factor on high level play, also i fail to see how GGAC made everyone less unique when in fact is thge damn contrary, or are you going to tell me that Testament, Dizzy or Faust play alike, give me a break, like if Zappa and jhonny play the same way or have the same game plan

I’ve noticed that the best way to balance anything in competitive gaming is to make one or a group of things extremely overpowered, then adjust the weaker things accordingly to fit into the overpowered tier.

From what i’ve seen, supposedly Capcom’s designers were afraid to introduce any new characters to Super SF4 that would compete with some of the traditional characters, so they didn’t make them too strong. (I think Daigo said this, could be wrong.)

And I suppose that’s why none of the new characters in SSF4 have struck the majority of the competitive community as “top-tier”. Of course the game hasn’t run through enough time for this to be labeled as fact though.

glad you decided that you can rewrite the definition of balance

you mean as a competitive versus game?

MvC2 outside of the top 16 says otherwise, and that game allowed for some of the most varied playstyles (lockdown/trap, touch of death aside from the usual rushdown adn zoning/keepaway).

Seriously?

balanced or “perfect balanced”?

if the 1st
GGAC and VF

GGAC is pretty fun…VF is meh.

edit:

Also it took GG along time and more than a few updates to get there…Same with VF.

well, VF isnt for everyone

lol @this thread.

OP is too invested in video games.

i dont like ryu and i like vega, therefore, hf and sf4 isn’t fun
