Balance is overrated
looks at MvC2 Wouldn’t want it any other way.
MvC2’s individual character balance isn’t the best. But given the function of the game, as someone like… nine posts ago pointed out, the playable teams facilitate a myriad of viable playstyles, which is the whole crux of a balance discussion.
So… bad example.
Grammar isn’t fun.
You isn’t fun.
pure and simple…if you want complete balance, go play karate champ. If you don’t like SF4, don’t play it. Viscant has given more than enough reasons all the people out there who have a problem with game “balance”. Yall guys need to step up or shut up.
All Viscant said was he hates Guile and likes Ryu though.
Balance CAN make or break a game, considering there’s one character who absolutely shits on everyone else and forces you to use that character. And even then the game could be great.
And yes, we do play fighting games, surprisingly. If you think a game is all about the characters, you’re very wrong. I’m pretty sure most people don’t play Melty Blood and Arcana Heart because the love the characters THAT much.
Characters are just a medium used to interact with the game mechanics. If the game has a large and balanced roster, but is boring and offers little creativity, people don’t give a shit. Sprites and hitboxes are cool and all, but for some reason the way the game plays is the real entertainment.
Also if you’re in a tourney, who gives a fuck which characters aren’t viable, it’s a fucking tournament. You don’t see any NASCAR drivers using a minivan because they feel it’s more fun to drive.
If you play with a friend who abuses tiers, hit him upside the head and make him use a different character, or play with someone else.
I don’t play in tourneys but I do try to use and abuse what mechanics and techniques I can physically perform, and if any friend I play with has a problem with it, they can concede.
That actually isn’t what he said at all. Don’t be an idiot.
Dr. B I didn’t know you could get down like that.
It’s called reading between the lines my dear friend. :china:
Figured it out somewhere between him saying a game was bad if Guile was top tier and a game was good if Ryu was top tier.
See, his premise seems sound at first, but in order for him to be correct you have to totally dismiss the possibility that a character is just good or bad on its own merits and instead is purely a product of the systems of the game they’re in.
I didn’t mean to to say that using high tiers should be looked down upon, but if they hate it THAT much, they have options past writing horror stories about the intimidating high tier goliaths. Please, I mean not to disrespect.
Also Alidfe I’m sure that you have a few examples and that you’re not just talking out of your ass.
I can pretty much conclude that nobody likes the challenge in trying to overcome the “bad matchups”.
All characters have the tools as long as you know the opponent.
Let’s not forget that we are talking about video games, here, and more than anything else a game needs to be fun. Insuring that all of the characters can function well in a tourney environment allows for serious players to play the characters they want and succeed in a tournament. I suppose if you’re really, really serious you wouldn’t give a shit about that, but, for most of us, we like being able to play the characters we wan to play and not have to spend twice the effort to get to the same level as some picking a much stronger character.
Having bad matchups is fine as long as:
thanks for the insane, sweeping statement
This.
You’re not beating that Ivan Ooze player in the Power Rangers fighting game unless you ALSO pick Ivan Ooze.
lmao who are you to decide this? that quote is just unbelievable in terms of arrogance and ignorance
I hope that’s sarcasm. Otherwise, very fail trolling.
yes, precisely. very fail trolling
@Darkshine: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d like to think most NASCAR drivers started to race because they enjoy it, not because they felt there was no other way to make a living. Hell I thought sports as a whole were made to be fun, no? They’re just as much as games are video games are.
Also, when it comes to serious competition, you don’t always have the luxury doing what you feel you’d enjoy most doing. That goes for nearly everything, even video games. If you don’t like that, then tournaments are probably not for you.
idk i literally dont know what its like to have fun so,
How the hell did you people manage to scrub up a thread with so much potential to actually help people? Seriously, this is where the hate comes from.
What the fuck people? Seriously What the fuck?
