But at the same time,if it happens on both sides, and neither has enough of an issue with it to acknowledge the thing as one problem spanning across both genders then it obviously isn’t really that much of a problem that it needs “fixing” to begin with.
I mean shit, if people on both sides weren’t attracted to the other gender we’d be making like pandas and going extinct through literally not giving a fuck right now.
And fuck this “power balance” bullshit, seriously if something is wrong it’s wrong, crying that it isn’t bad for you to do it because you are in X group doesn’t make it magically not wrong, and applying history behind this reasoning is extra fucking stupid, like what your dead ancestors were doing to eachother is worth a single fuck when it comes to justifying your actions today.
No but really, the only fighting game of recent that has even tried to portray a good story of Mortal Kombat. Shit was awesome, say what you want about the game mechanics, that shit was hype.
I’ll never forget when Shao Kahn killed Liu Kang (I think?) and Raiden said, “I will strip the flesh from your bone!”
Because it’s not proved wrong, mainly. Given the rate of the conversation around here its easy to miss things. If you think there’s some devastating point that I didn’t properly address, by all means bring it back up, I’ll try to satisfy you.
In general though, people come in here with a predecided position and let confirmation bias take care of the rest. Between that and the absolutist framing, its hard to get anything done. Still, at least I try to provide evidence.
That’s the thing… I’ve tried to show that overall the story of FF and KOF has had very little impact on how Mai is perceived by the culture as a whole (read the wiki excerpt, its pretty telling). Having actually linked to some support for my position, I’d say that the burden is on you guys, show me that the story has had a mitigating effect on how Mai is perceived in our culture.
It just reads to me that you’re coming in with a side already taken, and then taking affirmations as proof, they’re not the same thing.
I think I should, clearly being insecure has its benefits…although if it ever gets to the point that fictional female characters effect me or my identity as a person I’d feel to ashamed asking for money to remedy my mental problem.
Edit:
That theory would work if women were a disadvantaged class and men were in power, but in reality its only a tiny percentage of men in power who arent working towards universal male benefits by the sole virtue of their shared gender…actually a automatic own group bias between men doesnt actually exist to the same degree it exist between women. Therefor the power delta theory is garbage and it doesnt justify the bias of only giving attention to female objectification while completely ignoring male objectification and pretending like 1 is a bigger deal then the other. Its sort of like the argument that violence against women is worst then violence against men…double standard nonsense that completely ignores the other side of the coin.
Well again, because of the power imbalance. This is a pretty complex subject though. Ilth did a post that summed it up pretty well a few pages back, its worth looking up.
This would have been relevant fifty, maybe thirty years ago. Not so much now and if you belittle the problems of one gender because you think the problems of another are more important then you are the problem.
The power imbalance argument is basically a paranoid fallacy that states that because men happen to be the leaders of industries and politics that women’s interest are exploited while men’s are routinely worked towards by the sheer virtue of them being male. Its basically the same thing as the patriarchy theory, and reasons that only when a equal representation of women in every male dominated field occurs then "TRUE"equality has finally been achieved…I guess the assumption here is that since the men at the top are inherently sexist and hateful of woman that only woman can remedy this and make society truly equal.
In other words a theory based on complete horse shit:)
Edit: Also men have been from the beginning valued for only their utility, if men did not meet the expectations of a protector and provider for a woman he would have lost in the reproduction game and died off with his genes. There is a reason why nearly 80% of women lived into adulthood to pass on their genes while only half as many men were able to do so all throughout history…men are the disposable sex unless they prove their worth as a utility.
so what are all the posts about how the developers have put their time on expanding her character? you humongous piece of mucus
and lol at your wikipedia quote
oh geez, sexy character on a list of sexy characters,
so lets say, since beyonce is mosty rembered as the sexy chick, that is the only thing that goes for her, oh boy hahahaha
gtfo you fucking orangutan
Culteral context sounds a lot like bullshit to me.
Anyone supposedly having some kind of obligation to make up for the actions for that dead generations behind us or a debt owed to them for what happened to the dead generations behind them is just straight up unreasonable.
(what you’re looking at here is the average gap in pay by country. In the US men are paid on average 18% more than women for the same position)
rates of positions of power is even worse;
Women are 16% of the US house, and 17% of the senate.
The money and power gap is very real, and you see it in our laws.
Well I suspect you’re just being trolly at this point, but I pride myself on my earnestness so here goes:
The main thing I’m saying is that that work is irrelevant to how people in general perceive the character. The wiki link is showing how she primarly gets attention because of her… assets, and there’s no mention of her story at all. So you still haven’t proven that that work actually means anything. Prove it matters in how she’s perceived.
you guys will have to bear with me, I have some things to get done today, and its pretty nice out. I promise to try to hit everything I miss in the meantime when I get back
(exits to a chorus of “OH please don’t bother on our account!!!”
and what im saying is that ignoring one part because you feel that is irrelevant is planly STUPID
the character is more than just the initial sexual perception that it has, she is the construct of her back story, her character design and how is she portrayed on her other media appearance
as i said many if not everyone perceives beyonce, cristina aguilera, julia roberts, etc, etc as sex symbols, are they just that, hell no, but because for your argument to have some ground you would dismiss it
see why no one can have an intelligent discussion with you, you infected hemorrhoid
