Fighting game stories are utter bullshit. The only things important are the ingame portrayal of the character and their movesets.
It’s like taking somebody that goes around and the only thing you ever see them do is suck dicks. Yet there’s a paragraph written in the manual about how they have a very deep and interesting life and reasons for their behavior… They’re still only a dicksucker, that’s all they actually do.
The anime stigma ties into it, seems to me that a good half of that, if not more is ‘lol lolipedo games’, which is the same issue coming from a slightly different angle.
But that puts it an interesting way, if the games have depictions that people are uncomfortable with or embarassed by it can hurt a games performance (both short and longterm). I don’t think anybody really disputed the gameplay quality of AH3, but it got massively trashed and never had a chance here because of the way it depicted its characters.
