Playing Ssf4 pisses me off no extent. That’s why it has staying power. Walk down any street in the world, look for the meanest angriest looking person, chances are they’ve just been bodied in Ssf4. This game is far from fun.
because there is a lot of bullshit in it. but capcom calls this a challange that most people prefer. i still call it bullshit. i rather have well balanced characters over god-tier chars like the twins, fei or vanilla sagat.
but now capcom tries to fix things to make it a more balacing game and screws around on things that don’t need to be touched. i mean, why do they nerf akuma or even blanka? sure, akuma can be a real pain for some characters but what he does his pretty hard stuff. if i watch guys like tokido, i’m just “whoa, man this guys freaking awesome” and then i see others who want to be like him and fail so hard that they drop akuma. now with the nerfs many will drop him like flies. same goes for the twins and fei. this just shows that many players just use characters who are very strong instead of using them because they like them.
i’ve seen it manny times in endless… i win with blanka or balrog and the next thing is see is yun… they lose again and either they switch back to their main or kick me. i know that i do stupid things or drop combos but many wins i get from solid damage or frametraps. this works really good with balrog and then i get called cheap for mostly using normals. samething with blanka. but i also go through moments of huge bullshit and it makes me angry they win because the game allows these things to happen, e.g. punish on hit or those damn cmd-grabs (man i hate them!). but other times i’m angry about myself. i should’ve known better and i still did something totally stupid… you know: no energy left but almost everyone does a jump in… it’s just stupid, yet we do it.
but in the end we keep playing which is totally fucked up
Let’s get back on track - if there are to be arguments on this forum, at least let’s keep it Blanka related.
er… have you guys even played other fighters?
saying the balance is bs… makes me wonder what fighters have you guys been playing to feel that SSF balance sucks sooooo much that it pisses you off while on the other hand the ‘fighter’ you’re playing is SOOOOOO FUN that you’ll rather play that over SSF4?
are there bad match ups in the game… yes… but which fighter other than SF1 is there no bad matchup at all? High tier characters doesn’t automatically make them god-tier… i guess within SSF4 yes… i guess you can exaggerate and call them god-tier… but play some other fighters… it’s really not as frustrating in comparison.
SSF4 is definitely not balanced… but i also don’t think it’s overwelmingly unbalance compared to other major fighters out there… I pretty much played all fighters ‘semi-competitively’ and SSF4 is probably the game I WAS worst at until recently I think i’m better at SSF4 compared to Tekken 6… however I pretty much played all the other major fighters out there and the prequel to them… and I dunno if you’re complaining about ‘god-tier’ in SSF4 i don’t even know what you’ll call characters like Steve Fox, Hilde , Meta Knight and the list goes on… because in comparison… i feel like even SF4 Sagat looks balanced compared to those characters… and I’m sure you guys can think of more examples…
Unfortunatley I don’t play VF5 well enough to make any judgements… but people say that VF is one of the most balanced fighters… and I don’t really doubt it… but at the same time the system is sooooo complicated I feel like most players can’t even get through the ‘basics’… (try doing a triple throw escape after a step)

Haha you guys should try Blanka vs Dee Jay in ST.
I wasn’t really talking about tiers or stuff like that, just that some people are amazingly good at this game regardless of character. At casuals I was getting bodied by throwhawk. (I’ve seen Taku nearly murdered by him too). Some people are just very good, I’m average. That pisses me off, and makes me come back to it. That said, being trapped in a corner by Bison is not fun at all, devoid of ex bars. Have you seen the wamo page for blanka vs bison? #Tumbleweed.
yeah i used to hate that matchup but i used to enjoy success with instant j.lp over fireballs into tick throws that outrange his throw range. boxer on the other hand i had no fucking clue how to beat
There is nothing keeping you average other than you.
If “you” equates to my frazzled neural synaptic network and dulled arthritic apendages, then yes… “you” is keeping me average. It’s the same reason I have given up ten years of skateboarding, then pain started to outweigh the gain ten fold. Some people I play online are obviously surviving solely on a redbull and meth diet. Nah… I am getting better, and hopefully 2012 edition will throw a small lifeline, that and a lot more practice. A few new plus frames and reduced startup on normals would definitely help too.
there is a ceiling for players with so so reflexes and slow hands. however it’s not an impediment to being better than average. you can be a hairs breadth below world class players with smart play, system knowledge and execution being on point. it just takes more practice than is worth it in my opinion, unless you’re young and at school/uni with time to spend doing that stuff.
sf skill don’t really leave you though, so its easy to maintain around that level so i’m glad i played my balls off when i was unemployed in 2008/9
your competition can keep you down, but you can always seek out better.
Less pushback on a normal would be an excellent buff too eh? St.mp would be a prime candidate imo, or rockcrusher, or cr.mk or st.lp… Everything.
I think st.strong and cr.mk pushback is specifically designed so that you always get far st.jab after them, and for the most part I think the spacing on those is perfect.
Less pushback on both versions of rockcrusher and on electricity would be ideal though.
cl mp 1 frame faster startup would be nice, would make punishes easier online.
yea cl mp faster startup totally 100% that or mk knees + more frames on hit/block
Yeah I think making cl.mk recover 1 frame faster would be better than speeding up cl.mp.
One of the bad things about cl.mk is that on block you are neutral, so it’s hard to get any advantage. Also sometimes especially against crouching opponents you actually can’t combo after on hit because you are at “close” range, so you are just pretty much doing a block string.
But if there was less pushback on st.mp we could do st.mp, lp xx *elec on everyone instead of just fatties. Plus we could maybe swap cr.lk xx *elec instead for an extra 10 damage? Nice.
quick question about knees, is it off the ground? can it be thrown?
st.mp, st.lp xx elec does work on everyone other than juri, you just have to walk 1 frame after doing the mp.
cr.lk does not do more damage than st.lp.
throwable, on the ground technically.
the hitbox is situated so that at frame 4 or so you will outhitbox certain cr.shorts and Blanka’s leg hitboxes will be above them.
