Roger that josh p. I can see that i’m not on your level. I clearly am a weak player from only facing guys online and i don’t know anything about live play. I also don’t realize how to play my character correctly because i use upball as a reversal. I didn’t realize it would turn into such a heated situation for you and i am sorry it even went there. Upball is useless on the ground as a reversal within strings or neutral situations. Thanks for the advice. I will try to do my best to remove that from my arsenal because it’s probably preventing me from getting better with blanka.
I just want to say that balrog ex rush punches do not cause knockdown but i find them to be a good reversal. I also didn’t realize reversal only meant knockdowns. I thought anything that can be done that causes the ‘reversal’ word to come up is a reversal (which also breaks armor if it’s a special like balrog’s dash punch). But i will adjust my terminology.
Yeah they are good on wakeup, and in strings.
EX rush punch you can option select a throw tech into anyways.

EX Upball KD = HUGE HUGE buff
shortened rollback = punishable by some by far more damaging combos than before = decent sized nerf
overall = great buff
The way I see it is just the viewpoints of a pessimist/realist vs optimist/idealist.
Stop attacking each other - i’m sure you both have good Blanka’s and know the high level matchups. This is a huge buff though there is a nerf attached to it (my opinion - just like you all have yours).

What we mean is a SAFE reversal, something that on hit gives some kind of benefit or at least doesnt leave one open to punishment. Blanka doesnt have that. Soon he will.
And the whole point of the argument was to demonstrate why blanka needed that knockdown on hit. Getting all crabby because its not as “safe” on block anymore misses the forest from the trees, that in comparison to everyone else in the game with a reversal, blanka’s was the worst one because of how punishable it was even on hit.
Well I suppose its safe to say it might hurt ONLINE blanka players more in the way fox mentioned, but a big buff to tourney/offline Blanka’s.
Overall its a buff that should lessen pressure and allow us to control matches more effectively. We have wanted this for a while now.
I wonder if we will be able to followup after the KD in any way with the bounceback… WILL bounceback be SAME on HIT and BLOCK? or further on hit? This is something to watch for.
this buff for blanka is really good. gouken got a load of stuff that doesn’t address his problems.
seriously, they fixed Blanka’s biggest problem, gouken now has combos to super. But he’s still free on wakeup and has to rely on guess counters, yay.

just thought i’d speak on this maybe my memory is hazy. i was always under the impression ryu can only punish ex upball with sweep if you do it completely point blank, and by point blank i mean when ryus sprite and blankas are mixed together. once they reach about 6 training floor tiles distance apart ,( > one tile seperating their toes) then the ball is safe on block.
So you don’t want to use ex upball on wakeup vs ryu when he’s right on top of you because in addition to being punishable it’s also more expected. where you find yourself using it is when he starts his frame trap stuff. once he has jabbed you twice or done one cr.mp you are in safe ex upball range. and thats where i instinctively always reversalled. For that reason I didn’t even know it was punishable up close until ves (i think) told me.
tl:dr - good comp aren’t sweeping ex upball if you’re using it right. i think lol
yeah, the idea though is that ryu can get that free meaty jab, and he can punish upball from a bit farther out with ultra and always with super.
I mean it’s not useless vs. Ryu, but using it can be extremely risky.
This is the single best buff Blanka EVER gotten…
think about it this way… you’re trapped in the corner… the opponent just knocked you down… you have roughly 10% life left with no ultra vs your opponent have 30% left…
You can pretty much kiss your round good bye… a smart player should win this scenario 95% of the time… with pretty much ANY character… as long as they do some os against your ex rainbow… there’s nothing you can do but to block and take in the pressure… and the worst part is you’ll remain there… if you hit them with ex upball you die… you try to escape with ex rainbow… you die… you try to dash back or focus dash back… you die… you try to tech crouch to escape from possible throw… you die… the ONLY smart option you pretty much got in that scenario is to block… and against certain match up blocking by itself is pretty much delaying the time you’re gonna die…you get like 5% chance of making an incredibly good guess after blocking and guessing again and surviving this… but i can’t see this happening if you’re fighting someone extremely solid.
now… with this single change… you actually have a chance… anything that beats ex rainbow from escaping in general is gonna get beat by upball… obviously they can just sit there and block and wait and try to punish your ex rainbow during the landing… BUT… with most moves… if they got a move that can chase and beat ex rainbow on landing the same move USUALLY (there’s a few exceptions) will lose to EX rainbow coming back to hit you… not to mention… if all they do is sit block and wait… it means they are open to throws or open for you to hop to the other side and escape… Before this patch… this wasn’t an option… there’s no guessing involved for the opponent… they simply just own you… they don’t have to be scared of you… vs right now… if they make the wrong guess they’ll get knocked down and you still have a fighting chance…
this buff got nothing to do with how bad the block is… the fact it solves one of Blanka’s biggest weakness as a character… by giving him that opportunity is good enough.
Because of how ex upball work… it does open some more doors… like… at close-mid range i can actually use ex upball to go through fireballs… and hit my opponent before… this is retarded… because you hit them soooo high… you get punished pretty bad… now… this actually knocks them down… it’ll make match ups against characters like Sagat a bit easier as well…

I’m so happy about this change, i don’t care about the pushback on block, this move always was a crappy ground move, a good Blanka use this almost as an AA.
The biggest thing about this change is that it makes Blanka tourney viable. In tourneys Blanka was basically done if he ran into chars who could punish his reversal on hit. In any case, even though EX V.Ball may be easier to punish on block, you still have the option of EX Rainbow anywhere on screen (because like Lau said, you can’t cover both bases with OS meaties any more).
Don’t forget jab or short into ball will also be an escape, and it won’t leave you prone to overheads during charge in the corner. #Yun. Although, can yuns overhead be reversaled on hit anyway?
