Yes, it can’t be generalized that easily, but the point is that if you really want to play Blanka at a high level, you do need to be able to do elec on command (i.e. walking elec, hop elec, pulse elec, etc.). I remember the first time I saw Shizouka Saikyo and FAX gimoto play vanilla. That was when my eyes were really open to what you can do with elec. If you can’t master elec, you aren’t capitalizing on half of what Blanka can do, and w/ ball nerf, elec is just that much more important.
Sure, being able to do walking elec, hop/dash elec is a huge advantage.
And you guys realized that I was half-kidding righ? I even said so in the post…
And I really doesn’t think that Vanilla competition was lower.
Maybe in USA XBOX Live is way above PSN, but here in Brazil PSN is still the place for most of our best players (altough a few have made the jump to Live since SUPER, so actually the competition on PSN was a lot tougher back in Vanilla). I used to play some of the better players in Brazil and I was able to mantain about a 70 to 75% win ratio. Not to mention fighting against Vanilla Sagat or even Vanilla Ryu was a nightmare.
Anyway, I would really like to learn piano (I didn’t like the concept of sliding) but I don’t have much time to sit down and learn. The time I would spent practicing I can use playing AE online or playing other games. Not to mention the fact that I seriously doubt that MY level would improve that much with piano, since my game would remain pretty much the same crap.
I learned how to piano at school. I just drummed the inputs on my desk. Also when you learn additional things it helps you expand your game overall. I mean you can say what you are saying, and I thought the same, but I’ve built a whole option select/throw/baiting game out of being able to do jab xx elec whenever I want to.
Unfortunaly, yes because SFIV in PS3 has more lag input (2 frames more than the xbox version) and it will hurt you in things like elec who need precision.
I feel that, elec is more hard to come out in PS3.
Isn’t that one of those myths that persist through time?
People were starting to create the myth about lag on PS3’s 3SO until a guy here made a series of tests and videos to prove that the input lag was the same on both consoles.
Not to mention that if the input lag is consistent (always stays the same) the only difference would be a slightly delay to see Blanka doing the elec between the consoles (and I mean a real small difference, since 2 frames equals to 33ms).
And electricity is not a combo that requires a strict timing, if you press the punches 5 times it will come out. So it requires speed, not precision.
Veserius says no. TheMeth90 says yes. I’m going to a tournament next saturday and will take my stick and see if I can tell. I noticed a bit of difference on 360 but it could’ve been the different stick or the monitor.
Dude, i don’t trolling, i play on PS3 and sometimes in Xbox.
3.3 OE don’t have input lag, it was bullshit yes but SFIV really have 2 frames + of input lag in PS3, the game is more slower in inputs, you can feel that where you’re playing a long time in Xbox, i mean it’s not big, it’s slight but for things like elec, it’s not good i think.
It’s not a myth, it’s a fact for SFIV, i want to find this video who show test prove that.
All I know is I can’t piano electricity off of jab. I can do cr lk > lp > elec just fine though, or slide if I need to. But slide isn’t super quick and easy for me.
Lag can’t affect pianoing itself, it’ll only matter perhaps if you’re linking the st.jab off cr.mk or whatever. But the input for jab xx elec isn’t really affected by lag as you’re not relying on any visual information. Lag only makes a difference when you’re using what’s happening on the screen to time your button presses. (Which is why muscle memory, and enough practice games on the setup, usually negates the effect all but the more extreme cases of input lag.)
Ahhh… I forgot about hitstop completely… I was thinking that far jab to electricity was almost impossible, since 5 inputs in 5 frames is almost impossible for human hands.
Without hitstop the game would be quite weird (and most option-selects impossible).
it’s definitely much faster than pianoing… and it doesn’t ‘fatigue’ your fingers as much
however there’s still ‘weaknesses’ to slide technique as well…
-LAU :pretty much only uses slide because i can’t consistently piano, also it’s frowned upon in local HK arcade apparently (found out recently) when they thought i was just mashing… but somehow beating them… like a button masher beating a ‘skilled’ player… later on they realize i wasn’t mashing… and it was systematic.
I recently learnt sliding. It’s really good for cr.lk xx elec, it is noisy though and I can well imagine arcades not liking it. Pianoing is more subtle, and ninja like imo. But I have situational uses for both.
