Transformers TV/Movie Thread - WAR FOR CYBERTRON: EARTHRISE (A Netflix Original) Streaming Dec 30!

Yeah. Bumblebee just picked a bad time of year to open. Its going against two pretty big franchises. Bumblebee will likely kill it when it comes to home media though.

I saw Spiderverse this weekend. . . . . .

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I understand. It’s unfortunate that BB ran up against that one.

I saw Bumblebee today. I had some relatives visiting and had to go to Miami otherwise Id have seen it opening day

Pros:

The Cybertron scenes while briefly scattered throughout the film, are a G1 fans dream. It gave me vibes of G1 and FOC vibes. There are so many cameos of classic characters who look and sound great.

Even the the main TF on earth look more lke a G1/Bay hybrid and can be identified easier and have some semblance of character. This film does Decepticons the best. The Angela Basset character , Shatter, feels like one of the few Decepticons outside of Megs/Starscream with a memorable role.

I could actually see AND comprehend the action scenes. The action is more"widescreen" than close. Bays 2007 film was the only film to give me a headache DURING viewing.

Hailee Steinfelds Charlie is easily the best main human character in the live action series. Her acting is great and her moments with BB and even her mother are heartfelt.
I liked the diving backstory.

This is the only live action TF film where the humor is not super low class and NONE of the human characters are overly annoying. No screaming wildly, no pot brownie eating parents, no masturbation speeches, no shots of John Turturro 's booty or Devastators scrotum, no Daboog esque ice cream thug lyfe transformers.
John Cena’s military character is slightly goofy, but nowhere as “MURRICA” as Bays military scenes

The use of THAT classic 1986 song was perfect.

Cons

The plot is very similar to ET. I havent seen it in 30 years but it feels like they used the ET script as a blueprint and cut/paste to modify it.

There could have been another “big” action scene in the second act.

The "jet " TF character seen in the trailers is not in it much and is not who you think it is.

Overall: The best live action TF film though the bar was set very low.
8/10

TF 2007: 7/10
TF Revenge of Fallen: 4/10
TF Dark of the Moon: 6/10
TF: AOE: 5/10
TF TLK 5/10

G1 TFTM 1986 8/10

What? Spider-Verse couldn’t have been very good…was it? The trailers made it look like a crappy animated cashgrab cooked up by Sony pictures.

Into the Spider-Verse is fucking phenomenal.

I said it “looked” like that from the trailers, not that it is, fool. Also let’s not forget, this is a creation by the dumpster fire that IS Sony Pictures. Until Venom came along, they were on a pretty consistent streak of trash (2016 Ghostbusters, Dark Tower, etc).

You are the only one who thought it looked bad.

Only okay for me, simply because I’m tired of teenage girls/boys being a focal point when I want mature adults at this point (No the last Transformers abomination movies don’t count), honestly, I’m just fed up with it by now.

However, every part of the Cybertron scenes were A+++. Really, they just Need to make a Transformers movies that squarely focuses on the Transformers at this point with the human characters having drastically shorter screen times.

Everytime I saw Optimus, I was brought back to my childhood, and was so full of joy, but then it goes back to humans and I’m just :disappointed:.

Pretty much every era of transformers has had some for of human interaction and had humans as allies. Theyre not going anywhere.

I understand that, my only wish is that I would hope they make the Transformers the main stars with bigger roles. For example, the cartoon Transformers movies, yes, humans were part of it, but it was mainly about the Autobots and their war which made it far more enjoyable to watch.

I would have more fun watching something along those lines then another “coming of age” with teenagers with the Transformers as a backdrop.

Just my opinion.

Haven’t seen Bumblebee but the SHEER FACT that Soundwave sounds like Soundwave and Shockwave sounds like, “illogical!” Shockwave immediately had my interest. Tells me the people making the movie actually took time to review the source material a little. I can’t believe in 2 minutes worth of intro, this movie destroyed the Bay movies combined. And that’s the problem, as good as this was crafted, the directors still feel like there needs to be an opposing human element that is dominant or close to it. Goddamned franchise isn’t called “Humans”. Bumblebee appears to be handled well keeping it to just one main human and Bumblebee but goddamn, the Transformers can carry themselves in a movie. Pixar churns out pure computer generated movies that suck cash right out of people’s bank accounts, why can’t a big screen Transformers movie be that way.

The human element was 85% this one girl, and she was very likable (unlike shia). The relationship between her & Bumblebee was handled 10x better than any of that Sam/Bumblebee Bayformer fluff. It was actually (gasp)endearing, and not annoying. The ending made me sad too.

Going back into G1 days, that’s how it happened usually. Starting with Bumblebee venturing off into human civilization ahead of the others, bumping into spike and that kicks off our introduction. So this movie was spot-on in that regard too.

Way to spoil the movie for someone who said they haven’t seen it.

What are you talking about? Who spoiled what now?

Interesting take on the “Bumbleboot”

I saw another video basically comparing it to the classic old Herbie series, and claiming Bumblebee is the best Herbie movie ever. lol.

Checking Box office Mojo, it’s made $413 million on a $135 million budget so far. So it made back what they spent+advertising, and $100 million or so profit. I dunno if thats enough to bother with continuing the reboot though but, at least it didn’t flop.

It’s a good launch point. However, what I don’t want to see is a Part 2. There are already rumors swirling. The mute voicebox and a human character lacking impact on a larger scale and attempting to make it relevant are key ways to get something akin to ROTF. Either move back to Cybertron or start from here with a new band.

I haven’t seen Bumblebee movie & heard that it’s the best “Transformers” movie. I’ll have to skip it.

Don’t you dare compare Bumblebee to Revenge of the Fallen! Ugghhh!!! ROTF is by far the WORST of the Bayformers movies…
