Transformers Thread

I’m liking Mightron the most.

The headsculpt on the maketoys is weird.

Is that Sixshot figure from decades ago? I’d like a newer one, but I’ll take it.

God bless those unofficial, reissue knock-off creators.

I have KO giftsets of Defensor, Menasor, Abominus, KO Metrotitan, and a Ko G1 grimlock. Their quality is stellar by KO standards and comes close to the originals. If the quality of the originals is a 10/10, then these KOs at their worst, are still a 8/10.

The boxes themselves with styrfoam inserts, artwork, instruction manuals, etc, are also VERY well made and look authentic.

As long as these continue to be priced appropriately and, no sellers attempt to pass them off as the originals for obnoxious prices, then i approve.

It is a newer Sixshot model. And a nice interesting piece of info:

In a cute touch, his Titan Master’s head mode has a headband with the kanji for “six” on it, as a nod to Sixshot’s Japanese ninja personality. In a rather twisted touch, said Titan Master is based on Jack from The Headmasters, who ended up brutally killed thanks to Sixshot!

Transformers should have been inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame a long time ago.

I don’t see why it hasn’t. Transformers is one of the most prolific toylines of all time. Right next to the likes of Lego. What other toyline from it’s era and afterwards, that has endured as long as it has? Almost none. Occasionally you’ll have a excellent revivals, like Thundercats or 2002 He-Man but, they fade away before long.

Even back in the day, my childmind just knew Transformers was special and a cut above the rest.

I guess the concept of giant, cool transforming robots, is timeless?

Just look at this glorious 1988 boxart:

We dig giant robots.

So what’s the consensus on G1 Pretenders around here?

I remember even back in the day, many fans thought they were kinda lame. But there was always something about them that just fascinated me. I loved how the Decepticon pretenders were various fantasy monsters and, how the autobots were basically humans in powersuits or whatever. Both just fit. The figures themselves at first seemed kinda strange because they had to make design compromises in order to be able to fit them into the shells but, on the other hand this made them look unique and stand out from all the other bots. All the pretenders had a very “humanoid” look to them.

Also in 1988 the box art was pretty much at it’s best. Pretenders and other bots from that era just “popped” with a spiffy presentation.

Skullgrin was one of my favorites. I never had him but, i remember passing by him in a K-mart back in the day and remembering how cool he looked and wanting to pick him up:

Also Landmine from the Autobots:

Anyone else appreciate them? I know they weren’t the best transformers back then but, they were certainly an interesting concept.

I decided to pick up Titan Wars Galvatron today, as well as Wheelie, despite their issues.

Ordered these two alternate accessories for Galvatron:

Shattered Glass MP Prime is gonna be 179.99

It’s guaranteed to sell out. It’s at a price point that makes me think twice about it. At least it’s not Evangelion Prime expensive.

G1 Season 1 Soundtrack Fan restoration done!

Better DL quick before the lawyers catch on LOL

Meant to comment on this. While its a ridiculous concept, I always found them pretty awesome! The Mega/ Ultra pretenders were the proper way to do it. Thunderwing is a figure that if I had a G1 to keep on the shelves, it’d be him.

Saw this video randomly on YouTube. Pretty cool countdowns

Neat vids. Wait, are you saying you don’t have any G1s?

Pretty much. All I have are MPs, Classics, and a few G2s thrown in there. My collection is more about the best looking version of a character.

So RipT apparel is gonna have a both at TFCON where you can pick up this shirt:

It’s weird because i’m a diehard G1 fan. Lately with the emergence of these fantastic MPs, like Ironhide and sideswipe, that are superior to the original in every way. Sometimes lately i wonder why bother with the originals when, you have these great new figures that represent the characters and their spirit so much better. The only way some of these could be better is, if they had legit G1 style packaging for those MPs. For a big a G1 fan it feels blasphemous to say that.

However, my love of G1 is so much that i can’t not have a fair amount of G1s around. That classic box art alone! Just has so much more presentation and personality than modern TFs do.

Definitely have to have the originals/reissues of such iconic characters like G1 Prime, Grimlock, Megatron, Soundwave & cassettes, Starscream, etc. Also select favorite combiners like Abominus, Menasor, Predaking. And citybots like Metroplex, Trypticon, and Omega Supreme. Plus sampling of other interesting G1 teams like those Pretenders i mentioned, headmasters like Chromedome and skull cruncher, etc.

But then i’m a G1 fan from back in the 80’s and it’ll always be my favorite iteration so, that’s me. I don’t know how old you are and if you care much for G1 if you didn’t experience that era of Transformers first-hand like i did.

Just look at this guy:

Badass. Without awesome looking G1 bots like this, that lit up store shelves with their presence back in the day? The TF brand might not have endured like it has.

Nice - Control Center diorama set:

Picked up the Cloud 9 Quakeblast a few weeks ago. Body isn’t quite as true to G1 as the Takara figure, but the paint job looks amazing and I actually like the heft of the figure. I’ve always preferred the more imposing portrayals of Shockwave from some of the other series anyway.

Only costing 70 bucks or so sure as hell didn’t hurt in my decision to pick him up over the other MP offerings either.

Totally agree. The MPs are the loveletter to the fans that have stuck it out over the years. Don’t worry, you aren’t the only person who feels the way you do. I sincerely considered buying up a few G1 reissues. However, the MP line just does a better job capturing what the character looked like on the TV screen.
