Ok I see all these cool toys on here and I just gotta ask where the hell are you guys getting these figures cause no toy stores in my city seem to ever sell them?

Now some of these are official releases. The more “obscure” characters are made by third party (not Hasbro/Takara-Tomy). What these companies are doing is taking figures that are fan interest and making them a reality. Surprising enough, HasTakTomy has not gone the route of cease and desist yet as they are infringement of copyrighted materials. Some are totally original figures just using known characters (See ToyWorld Orion [not IDW Optimus Prime], FanToy’s Quakewave [not Shockwave], Perfect Effect’s Scouting Force [not Reflector] and MakeToy’s Giant [not Devastator] ). Some are characters created as direct copies (See iGear’s seekers [not the coneheads, the original trio] and the PP-01. You don’t see the direct copies as much anymore, as most of these companies take design elements from existing figures and incorporate them into the figures e.g. hinges, joint system, transformation “scheme”. This has been a divisive thing on some forums. Some feel that a real fan should only buy official. However, these third party devs are not only creating characters that we may never see, but do it so quickly and epicticiously as they don’t have to adhere to the same safety regulations that HasTakTomy have to, along with less R&D time (since HasTakTomy has done most of the work for them as far as engineering goes).

Typically you will only be able to find these items online. TFSource, BBTS, and Captured Prey are all pretty solid sites (to name a few).

This sounds like a very illegal operation…these 3rd parties aren’t sued or closed down?

Knowing how harsh companies are in protecting their IPs and such.

Man if I had the money currently I would get me Masterpiece Starscream -Coronation Set. Beautiful figure in one of his more badass renditions, only issue is at that price I am not sure I would tear him out of the box and do stupid poses as I am want to do.

I think the reason why they aren’t doing anything about it is that the companies making them are international. Nobody is making any of them in the US.

it pretty much is. That’s why some of the fandom looks down on this practice. However, the “uber fan” that can spend $150-$300 for a figure are such a small makeup that it’s not really a concern. Also, they are characters that HasTakTomy aren’t really looking to do (at this time). Don’t worry, if there is a way to do it, they’ll shut them down. At BotCon, 3rd party products could not be brought into the dealer room by sellers.

I love how this thread is pretty much up to date in terms of news

I caved in after being on the fence for so long and finally joined team Black!
Obviously for Ratbat at first but I really like this repaint of the mold in hand, it’s just so cool!

While they are cool, at a workdesk, it has to transform. It’s a stress release for me on occasion.

The largest I had was Omega Supreme. It would walk “around” my Ultra Magnus and PwrMstr Optimus Prime because one of it’s legs was broken from the show-n-tell of 88. #don’t take TFs to school. #prime was right. #the more you know.

Masterpiece Grimlock rerelease is out at TRU. It is being scalped to all hell. TRU needs to limit the quantities of purchase for the MP lineup.
