It’s the conversion rate, pure and simple. Dollars aren’t buying much Yen at all right now. Typically, Japanese figures are about twice the price of US releases due to middleman costs. However, the current wave of stuff and really anything in the past year has been nearly at 3x the cost.
I got Protector and Scythe this past week like everyone else (well, except in regards to Scythe). Good figures with some interesting flaws. I actually like Protector better out of the two releases.
I got A-01 Convoy (Vibrant Red) Today. I am impressed with it. Even though the price is a little steep for its size, it still feels like it is worth it. I plan on getting the Super Black Version. A-04 Skywarp is also on the list. Any of you guys own that mold?
Why yes. Yes I do. The doors tend to pop off, but they are quite a fun mold. The wife got all the Seekers for me for Christmas. Anything you want to know in particular?
I own Alternities Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Red Prime, Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker. One day, I’m going to get silver Megatron.
I got two friends, both know that I want A-01 Super Black. Since they both want to grab me a TF, one can get A-01 SBC and the other can get Skywarp. Regarding Skywarp, is the amount of Die Cast significantly less than Prime. Not a deal breaker, cause I think these figures are well engineered. I was actually surprised at the amount of detail fit into such a small package. IMO, these figures beat the shit out of the BinalTech line.
So far all of the reviews for the Grand Patriot figures have all stated that its not recommended (at least for the price). The fact that you have to buy 2 figures instead of them separately is ridiculous. Common complaints are that there is a lack of detail and the plastic is of a lower quality than FP releases.
might as well check the top news, mp hot rod is looking real fucking nice. finally after 25 years where getting tf toys that actually look great and look how they should have looked. man if these where out when i was a kid, damn. theyd all be half broekn now with lost guns and scraped stickers, lol.
That does look it will be nice. Gotta see some bot mode though.
The toys being released now can look like the actual characters because of advancements in toy engineering and being pushed to make a better product. Back in the mid to late 80’s the Transformers brand was marketed as 2 toys in one. Now which toy was important is another thing. As time went on, figures got better. Everything kept on the up and up all the way through Armada, since they had really simplified designs compared to RID. Now we got G1 Transformers that look better than they were animated.
You know, where Armada is concerned, they had the technology to do the same stuff back then. Look at the joints in Tidal Wave for proof of that. The only thing he fails in is a proper knee joint.
The dictate from Hasbro at the time was that each toy had to have “intrinsic play value”. The toys were literally designed around the gimmick. Gimmick has become a dirty word the past couple of years in toy forums, but some of those gimmicks were really well done and cool. Some of them made otherwise great figures suffer big time.
That Devastator is going to be really nice. I expect it to be a $400 set in the end.
Agreed, it took a slump. They could have done more for that line, but went for play value vs. being posable. This is why Hot Shot’s shoulders always hurt
I must be honest, the more I see it, the more I want to JP release. Still, not enough for me to get it as the trailer “cheats” to accomplish the entire Winnebago mode
Love how MP Rodimus is looking and all the little gimmicks they’ve been showing off. I like the trailer and the set is gonna look pretty damn nice on display. Being one of my favorite G1 figs I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold off until NA release. You gotta admit, you guys are gonna be pretty torn waiting for something…that as of right now…doesn’t even have an official date
I commend you if you can hold out though. If NA release has a targetmaster or something unique…and he’s priced around grimmy’s pricepoint, I might get him too. Or get one to nab the extras and repackage/return TO WALMART.
I know man, it’s gonna take some effort to do so. I really don’t want the trailer, but this figure is what the Masterpiece line is all about. A complete (if not 95%) show accurate version of a character most fans can identify with. At a $200 price tag, it’s not going to go on Out of Stock at any time. If they do, there will be a second run.
If you take it back to Wal-Mart, that’ll be interesting. TRU already confirmed they are going to get it. If you’re successful, that’s an impressive toy swap
Yes I know
I was reading up on some repackaging threads on tfw and that shit is hilarious. I don’t think it’s possible unless walmart gets the sku in their system somehow, though. Still, I would lol if I saw one of these exclusives end up at walmart without the perks, or swapped with a totally different figure. The facepalming I think is too great for words on that one.
I just got United Drift. He’s just shockingly better than the Generations one. From the detailing to the fact that they actually use white plastics on him…just better. Even the paint aps for the car deco are richer and more heavily applied.
