Transformers Thread

I agree about the eyes vs. mouth thing, but it does add another level of emoting that a face plate can’t. You think Starscream can achieve that fiendish look with his eyes alone. That smirk makes him more playfully evil. Prime is typically serious, but I am cool with the change. I do have an issue that TFP’s Prime has no nose without the mask, but has a nose guard with it closed up. Did the designers catch that

I for one like the 2007 design of Optimus Prime, but TFP’s version, they basically took the Movie version and removed about 70% of the detail, which makes it look weird.

I really dislike the designs and animations they’ve shown so far for TFP. Not saying I’ll never watch it and I am planning on giving the show a chance, but imo, it looks bad atm.

Prime’s had a mouth in the majority of previous shows…has he even had an animated incarnation without a mouth since G1? I don’t remember…

But I do agree the “liquid mouth” animation that’s being used here looks really shitty.

I’m kinda wondering if hasbro is scared to go too far back to something G1 related concerning an animated show. You guys think it’s a violence issue or something?

RID and Armada are the last two Primes since G1 to have the faceplate (unless you include WFC). I don’t care for a majority of the designs from TFP.

Regarding going back to G1 for source material, its just cause its not marketable (at least in thier opinion) to the current generation of toy buyers. Could an awesome writer come in and do it, HELLZ YAH!, but Hasbro rather stick to the current trend and make due with what’s hot: the reduced texture CGI that’s featured by several shows on the Disney channel and Nickelodeon. I know it may improve, but TFP (at least in previews) is a slight downgrade in quality from Beast Machines (love or hate, show still looks good after roughly 10 years).

yeah, beast machines looked good for the time and actually does look much better in terms of characters/animation after a solid 10 years…which is confusing because it’s like their 3d animation department took a step backwards instead of utilizing new tools.

what I was getting at is not a 100% G1 repro, but something that would utilize designs similar to it. I think cybertron/galaxy force was the most recent thing to achieve that, and it failed because of shitty dubs and idiotic timeslots here. jp galaxy force was incredible though and I still hold that series very high in my book.

I mean they’ve had so many “alternate universe” storylines so far that their continuum is pretty much shot anyway, I never saw animated so I dunno what it tried to do to the story, and who knows what direction TFP will go in. But it just seems like they’re scared to get back into the meat & potatoes of the TF series…to pick up somewhere after season 3/4 or reboot the series from s3 since nobody cares what happens after S2 anway, lol.

I dunno, I’m just a bit sick of seeing these constant reboots done in different artistic styles and considered a “new series”. Why can’t we have 1 more series that gets back to the roots of it all.

$

I know it may sound repetitive, but Hasbro does the “research” along with trend analysis which leads them to produce toys that work within the times. Think about it, almost all toys that were created in the same period of “The Clone Wars” seem to have that exagerrated proportioned, high stylized art direction. This series, since its on the Hub, and all of the shows have that Disney TV show-esque look, Transformers suffers to keep things consistent. Along with the direction that the movies went with panel replacement and exploded innard transformations, TFP keeps in line with this as well.

Classics/ Universe are for us die hards that want the things that you stated.

Didn’t see this posted:

I’m pretty tempted.

Why do you want them to go back to G1 when you ahve the original series and all the tie ins whether it’s Beast Wars or the comics. I’d rather see them stick to one new cannon for awhile that doesn’t ahve shit to do with G1.

Preppy-I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the quality of those knockoffs, though damn that Thrust is amazing and despite what I’ve heard I keep wanting to grab them.

Yeah I think most people know about them just this threads been kinda lulling for awhile now. Think most people are just afraid about the pre-order situation because you have to preorder to get them basically, but by the time they’re out if something goes wrong it’s too late in the game to file a paypal dispute.

I am however looking toward PREDAKING at the end of the month. Been wanting this guy forever, so glad he’s finally gonna be arriving at my door!!!

Anyone in here Remember Gobots? The other day i got the combiner Puzzler:

While most Gobots were really crappy design-wise compared to their TFer counterparts, there were a few gems that were pretty darn cool, such as this combiner.

No accessories or combiner parts, just the six robots w/combining pieces built in just like todays PCC line. So they’re quite ahead of their time in that regard.

Scored an MIB one on e-bay, and stands nicely as the sole Gobots piece in my collection

but the pictures are so beautiful.

somebody go jack some prototypes and report back. :frowning:

I still like Transformers. Just sayin’.

So who’s gonna get MP Rodimus?

I’m pretty sure I’ll pass on him.

can’t pass on rodimus…gonna get my preorder up soon.
predaking probably comes in week after thanksgiving!! wooo!!!

had this guy on preorder since they announced and always wanted him as a kid, just can’t wait for this reissue to hit.

I’m passing on the japanese rodimus, but will get the american release…with or without trailer(rumored U.S version would lack trailer).

I’ll be getting MP Rodimus. I’ll pick up the US release of him too so long as he actually comes with a Targetmaster as predicted.

I’m planning to get MP Rodimus as well. I think I’m probably going to cancel my FP Rodimus order. I finally ordered a KO Henkei Thundercracker this afternoon.

Also, Jazz and Tracks have been spotted at U.S. retail…in Ft. Lauderdale! Usually my end of the country is the last to get toys. I hope I get ahold of them from Wal-Mart or wherever locally before they ship from BBTS.

I really have no interest in the FP rodimus armor. nearly half the price of what the jp mp is going to cost, I’m just going for that instead of the FP upgrade. the FP armor looks good, but not as nice as MP roddy is gonna look with the rest of the MP crew.

also, if the us rodimus offers differences like kage was mentioning, and is $60-70, I might just pick him up too. but that trailer is where it’s at, I want the complete figure.

I won’t be getting the Japanese version, but I’ll do my best to get the US version. I never cared for Rodiums, its Hot Rod I want so not having the trailer won’t bother me at all.

I’ll probably be picking up MP Rodimus w/ trailer, even though I’m a fan of Hot Rod and not Rodimus. I also pre-ordered FP Projector, because I think he will look great next to FP City Commander. The way FP Protector’s shoulders look is very reminisent of Alternator’s Rodimus’ shoulders, which I found to be rather cool.

heard some marshalls are getting backstocks of animated voyagers for 11.99, gonna go check a couple out today.
not a fan of the animated show, but I got a few of the toys now and some of them just leave you wondering “how the hell did they get that to work right…”. been very impressed with what I’ve bought of the toys so far, I’d at least like to get megs and one seeker before they’re gone everywhere.
