I bought two MP grims, one for myself, and thinking the 2nd one would be a Christmas present for someone, but I’d rather give it to someone from srk who couldn’t find one. (for 69.99 plus tax and shipping of course) But I’m pretty confident that those that want one can find him eventually if they keep searching around.
If however, a few months pass, and you still haven’t found one, feel free to PM me to check if I have a spare still.
That Rodimus is on my list, no questions asked. I don’t think they could have made him any better if they tried. I’m going to have one hell of a Pile of Loot from BBTS when I make it back home…
8 sentences is an explosion of words? damn. my point is simple, it might be nostalgia for most of you. but tell me 1 combiner that actually looks good and has good articulation? none. now look at the toys seperate and not combined. most of their alternate modes look good (not all, even alt modes of predacons look like shit). now look at their seperate robot modes. anybody actually wanna tell me this shit looks good? theres a difference between opnions and facts, but cmon. its like comparing og rodimus prime with mp rod. nostalgia = biased bs lies?
my seacons came in today!
sooo I was a bit weary about them from from scum, but upon getting mine out of the box & transforming them into all the different modes, I’m actually pretty impressed.
the plastic is actually pretty good, very close to the originals (had 3 of them including snaptrap until a few years ago). all the movement/joints are EXTREMELY clicky too, some of them almost too much…where I feel like I may snap a joint by applying too much pressure. but they all transformed nicely and are really close to their g1 counterparts.
imo the worst things about the fig are snap’s green head (quick fix if you’re into modding/repainting), and a terrible sticker app.
seriously, the sticker app is my #1 complaint with the fig, could have easily been avoided by just adding an optional sticker sheet.
instead, there’s some stickers that are not applied all the way, and some that will peel/tear during transformation. I had to trim/remove a few of my stickers to get transformations to work properly. they literally put them over joints/hinges.
really, I know it’s a see through box and all but did they really have to put the time into doing a shitty sticker app rather then just tossing in a sheet?
I mean it’s being sold on an online retailer, lol. Not like anyone but collectors are going to be buying the things. Don’t have to put on a shitty sticker app to impress some little kid that’s walking down the toy isle.
imo, yes, grim is obviously the better purchase @ $10 more, but piranhacon is definitely still worth the $60. for just nostalgia or adding to a collection, the seacons are really cool to look at.
no, you cant jerk off piranhacon in 100 different poses like rotf fp bruticus, but he’s still cool. very nostalgic & a solid toy with lots of different modes. worth the $60.
Yeah after tinkering with it I was a little harsh about Piranacon, I didn’t have the sticker problem you did but the adhesive wore off real quick on some of them. Sticker peeling on day 1? yuck. My biggest issue with it at the moment is the pegs for the hands/feet aren’t terribly solid. There is a slight but noticeable forward lean in combined mode even without holding a gun Seacon.
Regarding the chipped chrome on the teeth of MP Grimlock my friend suggested returning it. Would that be too minor a defect to warrant a return/replacement? For $70 I expect that thing to be FLAWLESS.
I could just pop an arm out of the ball joint and be all “hey this arm fell out can I get a replacement awesome thanks” and they will be none the wiser
The problem with Snaptrap’s head is that it’s a total bitch to remove. I took apart a junker last year because I loved the head sculpt so much and wanted to use it for a custom. I had to melt the fucker with a soldering iron just to free the head. So swapping it with that of a junker is a no-go.
Painting it is the first viable option. You just have to make sure to mask off the rest of the figure for such a small area. And then you’ll need a toothpick/microbrush and a steady hand to apply the yellow.
The second option is finding a near mint Snaptrap. Finding one at a decent price, especially with the demand for G1 Seacons slightly lowered, shouldn’t be too hard. It’s buying all of the weapons and accessories that is (welcome to G1), but you obviously wouldn’t need to do that with the recent release of this set.
First step is getting the beast head out, then opening it up. The screws come out easy enough, but there’s that pin near the front of the head that holds it together. I was actually able to pry it apart with only moderate difficulty. I think a swap is possible with care and understanding of how it’s assembled. You may even be able to just use a hair dryer to heat up the plastic and make it easier.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think I may have found the right base figure to use for this. I was looking at some of the SW/TF Crossover figures and there are a few that look like they can modded to resemble a submarine. Let me know if you’d be interested in my services.
You construct your own Transformers?!?! How’d you get into that? How much do you charge? How long does it usually take to make one? You have any pics of any that you happened to make???
Yes and no. I believe the operating word is *modify *since I mostly work with existing parts and figures. Once I get into scratch-building TF’s out out of 70-80% styrene, then I guess you can say that I make them.
I got into customizing 3 years ago thanks to Jin Saotome and all of the amazing work I saw on Transtopia (tfmaster.com).
I don’t really have a particular rate that I charge. I usually negotiate a cost that’s fair to both the commissioner and myself.
Time depends on the project and what it entails. I do have a regular job and a personal life, so it’s not like I’m working inside a studio or garage all hours of the day.
