Ewwww, that is a bit steep. I do like that G2 version tho. I did consider buying a junk/KO Red Alert and switching the head out, but it’s so unique.
Yea the G2 looks very Mad Maxish. I can’t hate.
And definitely money is a factor.
Maybe I’ll check out the store that put out the Earthrise toys for sale early. Maybe I’ll get lucky lol
NOW WAIT A SECOND
Unless that shit is FAKE
Yeah, that’s a fake. Coming from China . . . . it’s likely gonna have a block of wood or a set of legos in the package. Unless it’s third party figures, I only buy from North American sellers.
Good to know man.
FUCKING ASIA
Yeah, so many guys think it’s a good deal and get caught up. Telltale signs:
- Less than retail
- China
- e-packet
Don’t be so foolish. I own some of those Masterpeice KO’s, yes “e-packet from China” and all. Got them on E-bay. I wouldn’t necessarily put them on-par with the official versions but, they’re still nice.
Only complaint is, yes “e-packet from China”. As in, it usually takes a while to get them.
Edit: And i’m 100.00% in favor of KOs so long as they are Good quality. Which many going around these days are. Besides those KO MPs i own, i also own a G1 Prime, G1 Menasor and Defensor. Replica G1 Boxes for each were fantastic and plastic quality of the figures was good too. Joints/combiner pegs on my Defensor were a little TOO tight actually.
The issue is that if you are trying to buy official and get a KO, that’s not what you were going after.
Only time I am “OK” with a KO is if it is not competing with the official product. The G1s like you mention sorta make sense. It’s a figure that’s over to three decades old. The MP stuff though just seems like another reason for TakaraTomy to increase the price if sales dip. If the line doesn’t exist, the KOs won’t either.
You can usually tell right off the bat by the price, whether or not it’s a KO. Also MPs are going to be overly expensive whether KOs exist or not. MP-44 anyone? Christ. Only a damn FOOL or a hardcore Prime fan, would pay that kinda money.
Edit: Believe it or not, many e-bay sellers are honest about them being KOs. Like this guy here:
To that point.
Keep in mind, not everyone that buys online knows how all of this work. Some of the sellers are upfront, but many are not.
Yup I saw a few KO’s in listings.
I respect that.
Hey, you rationalize it however the hell you want. But $350-$400 for (1) figure is insane. Again, only FOOLS or Hardcore Prime fans would spend that kinda money.
I could only see such money being spent on one figure if it was a New/Sealed vintage item or something. Like an MISB Original Fort Max, G1 Prime, etc. Aka: something exceedingly rare and sought after, in such great condition.
Anyway, Takara better squeeze all the $$$$ they can out of the Masterpeice line while it lasts. Because thanks to these fantastic, modern era CHUG releases? There is less and LESS reason to bother with Masterpeice.
Thanks to recent lines i don’t even bother to look at MP stuff anymore.
I am not sure why there is a battle about spending. It’s all overpriced plastic at the end of the day. You just don’t see the value in it at that price point, and that’s OK.
This is proving the exact point. I don’t care for G1s (as in 1984-1989 releases). It doesn’t represent the character as I’d like to see it. However, I let someone who likes it flourish. It’s not something that I’d do. None of those figures have that much value (to me). As long as you like it, you win.
I don’t think the MP line is going anywhere. The US market is secondary. You also have several lines behind G1 that can be pulled off. Beast Wars is off to a rock solid start. Could you imagine a MP Armada Optimus Prime (with articulated POWAH PANTS!).
That’s fair. MP is a large investment both in cost and size. Many collectors are moving into legends scale 3P figures.
Sometimes I wonder if the chug line never existed.
What I would do lol
I’d probably occasionally buy one or two MP or 3P cars or sub $100 figures.
I would probably be put that money saved towards video games ,blurays or movie tickets lol.
It’s interesting that before chug,I semi got back into collecting due to RID 2001- I had Prowl, Optimus Megatron, Magnus. However, I didn’t get into Armada.
Energon I tried Slugslinger but he was a floppy mess.
I also got Vector Prime . It looked so different yet cool.
I honestly think the CHUG line reignited the collector aspect. I collected a fair bit of them. Then I got more MPs. Given the shift from less stylized to G1 2.0, it didn’t make sense to get both lines anymore.
RID 2001 (AKA Car Robots) was the first line I bought something as an import. My Fire Convoy sound pack still works LOL. I always meant to buy the RID Megatron due to the ridiculousness of it.
Fun Fact - The US Version of RID Megatron used the mold for the JP Devil Gigatron release. You could do all 10 modes compared to the original JP figure (which was only 6).
Armada kinda lost me. I only bought Prime in that line. The two versions of the larger figure and the deluxe sized one (AKA Bendy Prime). I also got the deluxe Prime for the Energon line. Now for Cybertron, I have the larger figure. It’s still a good one
I too had that figure. Unfortunately I didn’t have a place for it, so I sold it.
I don’t see how a guy who spent double msrp on nes mini’s can possibly give anyone shit about “expensive plastic.”
Another point for worth vs. value in the collector market.
That’s right, i don’t see the value in it. Takara was hardcore duping/ripping off the fanbase Bigtime for wanting THAT much money for (1) damned figure. It’s insulting actually. As if Takara execs had a bet going for how many friggin’ morons would pay for it. Or in your case, seeing how many Hardcore Prime fans are REALLY out there.
Hahaha! I hated that SOOOOO much back in the day. Trying to eject a Cassette from the player, only to grab and pull it out and see that the tape had gotten caught, and it all comes out/unraveled. The Pen trick was essential.
Again to your point, that’s your opinion. Just as you don’t see value, there are many that do and are happy with the purchase. As long as you like it, you win. There are “hardcore” collectors in any fan base. It’s all good though.
And speaking of “Prime”
Complete transformation of MP Lio Convoy
(Watch on mute as the music is annoying, unless you want to hear the satisfaction of ratcheting joints).
My feelings on the figure have not changed. Beast Mode =ass; Robot Mode = Perfect
I bought the Encore release of Big Convoy last year. I pretty much think I should get rid of it now
