Transformers 3

Take away the tech and franchise lore, and isn’t Shadow of the Colossus what you’re describing?

Anyway, I saw it in Real3D today and I walked away impressed. I don’t really care about how gripping the story is (unless it’s terribad like Revenge of the Fallen), I just want to see explosions and robots… which was delivered in hearty servings. Shockwave’s movie design >>>>>>>>>>> G1 Shockwave design.

I don’t know why a lot of you are raging-- G1 wasn’t good at all. It was just cool as shit when you were younger because it was something you hadn’t seen before with a lot of shooting and explosions. The fact that Bay and Co. were able to take the source material and make this trilogy out of it is just shy of miraculous. Take off those rose-tinted aviators.

If you want depth in Transformers, Beast Wars is where it’s at. It had everything. It blows the mind that the majority of the Transformers fanbase hates it with a flaming passion… mostly because there was no Optimus Prime. Stop dickriding and you will be surprised at what you’ve been missing out on.

Anyone who did not enjoy the movie, and hasn’t seen Beast Wars, reward yourself one of these days by grabbing some booze and snacks, and get a Beast Wars marathon going. Seriously.

whoa whoa, people hated Beast Wars? I thought they hated Beast Machines, now thats a show i understand people hating on. I enjoyed it for what it was but damn if that show was depressing as hell.

Beast Machines was average. It was a reflection of the times in the sense that cartoons were becoming super toned down, so all the guns, cannons, ballistic weaponry, and what-have-you from Beast Wars were removed and replaced by lasers and energy projectiles. The characters themselves were not as hardcore as they used to be. They were all about that meditation and one-with-the-world movement. Their personalities were dialed back a few levels and that ruined a lot of the characters that were well-established in Beast Wars, especially on the Predacon side.

Beast Machines

Spoiler

Megatron lost all the humor in his personality, which was a big fuck up by the writers, imo. Yeah, he was the most serious, evil, menacing, and almost legitimately scary TF villain at the time as a result, but stripping him of his humor and other personality quirks that defined BW Megatron was just foul play.

The setting/world wasn’t anywhere near as varied or as interesting as Beast Wars, and there was a lot of fucked up shit in the show. Well, as fucked up as a TF episode can get.

Beast Machines

Spoiler

The whole Rhinox fiasco. Infuriating as shit. Not to mention most of the allies from Beast Wars reappearing as villains in Beast Machines. Get the fuck out of here.

I would recommend first-timers to just watch Beast Wars and pretend Beast Machines did not exist. Beast Wars had the perfect ending. If you absolutely need to continue from where Beast Wars ended and finish the end of the G1 Autobot/Decepticon war that was left for the Maximals/Predacons to finish (aka the true end of the G1 storyline), then go ahead and watch it.

Beast Wars playlist.

^Speaking of Beast Wars…

Inferno was fuckin hilarious, that guy always cracks me up.

And lets not forget Megatron’s infamous 'Yes…" quote.

Dam now i gotta check out that playlist…

Yeeees.

That pissed me off because he heeled turn for no damn reason. And the reason that was given in the show made no damn sense.

I know I pretend Beast Machines never existed simply because of what they did to Rhinox. Beast Wars on the other hand is simply phenomenal! I can go back and rewatch episodes and it really is just as good as I remember it being.

Transformers Animated was pretty good too. I like that they took the whole, no guns for heroes, thing and totally ran with it. The Autobots were crazily outgunned by the Decepticons and had to get more creative with ways to defeat them.

The best strength of both of those shows though is the characters. Nearly everyone dripped with personality.

I watched Tranformers 3 today, and I have mixed feelings about it.
I kinda liked it, but I think I enjoyed the 2nd movie more.
ROTF had good interaction between Prime and Megatron, basically the Decepticon/Autobot conflict. As well… there was like zero Transformers conversation in the 3rd movie. It was all fighting. Megatron had like 10 lines, and Starscream had like 8. 3rd movie was 10x more serious business though, with humans dying left and right. The action sequences in the 3rd were better, but personally I thought they were pretty good in ROTF as well.

Man, if TF3 was a live action movie with people instead of robots, it would be a horror movie for sure…

[details=Spoiler]
-Autobots tearing apart, limb from limb the Decepticons
-Bumblebee with the shotgun blast to the chin to Decepticon
-Optimus tearing off Shockwaves head after disembowling him
-Starscream’s head exploding
-Ironhide getting his chest blown apart. On a related note, WTF no one cared that Ironhide died?!!
-Sentinel Prime getting scalped and gutted by Megatron, then gets his head blown off by Optimus

and of course… Megatron getting his head torn off with freaking spinal column attached, like Subzero’s fatality. [/details]

God, I would love a beast wars anything these days. No humans, robot character development, mother fucking Dinobot, Evil bitches that turn allies against each other, NO FUCKING HUMANS.

ahh, good times.

this movie was ass. i want my $9.50 back.

I’ll say one thing for Beast Wars:

Tigatron was the best.

Finally saw it, unlike the first which just raised disappointment, the 2nd great angery and fury, the third has left me with…meh. Seriously I felt nothing seeing the movie, absolutely nothing. Honestly other than Optimus and Bumblebee and Sam it feels like no one else is really a character in the movie, just cardboard cutouts that are their to add to the backgrounds. I didn’t care when

Spoiler

Ironhide and Wheeljack died, when Simmons died, nor when any of the Cons died except Megatron which just brought a “That’s it?” when he died like nothing

I mean at least the second got something out of me even if it was me ranting after the movie ended, All Hail Megatron got something out of me elation and some let down but it was something. I mean the only other thing other than that death at the end is just how un-Optimus Optimus is in this movie. It bugged me when he executed that Constructicon in the second and the things he did in this movie make me think of a less Psychotic Shattered Glass Optimus. Not someone I wanna think of when I think Optimus as a hero. Anyway at least the toyline looks pretty cool, gonna snatch up that Air Raid redeco of Breakaway.

um…good shit.

I wanna complain but I dont know anything about the source material. Id say better acting and comedy this time. AT LEAST these jokes were mildly amusing and not complete fail. amazing special effects. bay’s best work yet(not his best movie). people flying out of plane was the REALEST 3d ive ever seen  he’s setting new standards for action movies. that alone is probably worth another viewing.

[details=Spoiler]
possible plot hole. who the fuck “chained down” megetron? what…some giant outer space gangster robot cant break out of those stupid chains? and if I remember correctly, that dutch girl(lol she looks…strange) broke megetron out? or just convinced megetraon that he is NOT sentinelprime’s bitch?

lol whatever…movie was done by then[/details]

Spoiler

Megatron wasn’t chained down at all he was just being a hobo during a majority of the movie, especially during the last parts of it. All this bullshit was going down in the city and I’m like ‘…wait where’s Megatron?’ then they cut to him just sitting in an alley somewhere and he just lifts up the cloak slightly for a moment and then goes back to chillin. I guess he figured Sentinal Prime had everything on lock…until Sam’s girlfriend planted some seeds in Megatron’s head that should have already been there before hand when Sentinal made his partnership with him clear earlier.

False…

Well here is my two cents. I owned transformers as a kid but never really watched the show. So this is the POV of a layperson.

The good:

  • Big explosions and brilliant action sequences to masturbate to. Michael Bay plays to his strengths, not his weaknesses. Good for him!
  • Epic gdlk soundtrack.
  • Leonard Nimoy + “needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” = jizz in my pants

The bad:

  • Obvious and annoying product placement. I’m sure the companies are paying big bucks, but for fucks sake, no need to zoom in on a company logo for a full second each and every time.
  • Suspension of disbelief. Transformers 2 was the worst, with robot heaven. In this one, there were a lot of times where Sam SHOULD have died. For example, attacking the guard at the base. Um in real life he would’ve been shot. Running from and being attacked by robots. Like toward the end when the flying vulture robot, whatever its name was, had Sam in his grasp. There’s just no way Sam should have survived. Robots are made of steel, humans are puny flesh. Not buying it. It was made worse because there were so many last minute saves where some other soldier or Transformer would swoop in at the last second and save his life. Blagh. Also, there was no reason for the Decepticons not to kill him after Sam completed his spy mission. The autobots were “dead”, so Sam no longer served any useful purpose. That Decepticon wrist watch of his could have just ended his life right then and there.
  • Did not like the new chick. Her character was just boring and I did not care about her. Megan Fox may not be the best actress either, but at least the story from 1 & 2 made an attempt to flesh out her character and make her someone you cared about. This new chick was just presented as eye candy, and no attempt was made to really explain her backstory or why anyone should give a shit. At the end when Sam was like “I love you” I didn’t care. If they had kept Megan Fox and her character that scene might have worked.
  • Ending dragged on too long. I think the basic rule in movie pacing is that any action scene that’s longer than 10 minutes and people start to lose interest. Well, I was like jesus christ just save the world already. Reminded me of Transformers 2.
  • Why the hell wouldn’t Sam have a government job considering everything he’s already done in the first two movies? Makes zero sense.

Overall, it was much better than T2, and it delivered exactly what I expected. I feel that if Michael Bay had spent more time on the cutting room floor the movie would have been one I could rewatch. As is, I will never watch the movie again, but I have no regrets.

True

If there was 1 thing that ROTF did better than all 3 movies combined was a knockdown drag-out fight (**T****HE FOREST BATTLE). ** I thought there were good set pieces in DOTM (The Highway sequence is my favorite), but that one scene stands out from the other two and technically only one robot dies in the 3 vs. 1 battle.

I feel almost blashpemous for this - but BW Megatron > TF1 & Movie Megatron…

  • :bluu:

BW Megatron > ALL OTHER MEGATRONS

If this trilogy was written with a whole story arc in mind, Megatron would have actually had a master plan. Megatron was a wasted opportunity in this series.
