It was Spock’s dying words and I know the feeling, I was the only one laughing in the room as well.
Wasn’t the best movie of 2011, but it was good.
Where’s Voltron?
I wouldn’t give credit to Michael Bay on that though he does know what the fanbase wants… I would give the franchise credit… I mean, explosions, fast cars, sexy women, Giant Robots fighting, I mean its destined to be a cash cow. Not to mention that he actually had a decent cast in all the Transformers.
And honestly, if you keep directing shit, you are a shit director. I mean, Rosie was an absolutely awful actress. She was there just to stare at her ass and jack off to. Sam Witwicky was made into this unlikeable character. Deep Wang was a stupid waste of time IMO (although Ken Jeong nailed that part) and the plot was just everywhere. It was a shit movie bro. Not to mention his other shit storms… SMH.
The only credit I give him is his ability to keep his job.
Anyway, if you don’t think Michael Bay is a shit director, then thats fine by me. I hate the guy. You respect the guy.
Bay stands in the way of Nolan-esque directors . . . . Please. If they are good, it will show. He’s not the industry standard for directors.
Exactly
As far as Batman hypothetical question, I am with RadiantSilverGun. Batman sells toys but his story is by far deeper than the TF mythos. Transformers was very shallow, until the comics came through and the story was built on that. Unfortunately, most of the populace knows of the G1 series. Little nods, (like the Wreckers) are cool, but as the local Cybertronian Historian in my group, I kept getting questions about things like that. If you werent a part of G1 S1, you can hangup having any sort of TF common thread with the masses.
I like your post for the first part of the statement. However, I do disagree on a few things.
Rosie wasn’t all that but was better by 10 fold than Megan Fox. She actually had some charisma in the role and spoke when necessary. I just wish that killer bees didn’t attack her lips. Sam wasn’t bad in movie 1, did get annoying in movie 2 (Leo was basically Sam 2.0), and thought he was solid in movie 3. He did have some development in the arc of his character by the end of the 3rd movie as he went from a normal kid to an “unsung hero” to a nobody and is struggling with that point. The Deep Wang section could have been handled much differently and not so perverted . I don’t really understand how the plot of this movie was everywhere. I would say the editing is what was over the place. A much more solid editing job would have improved the quality this movie by far. I loved the story as there weren’t any macguffins to hunt for, it was finding a solution to a problem that kept the movie going.
I respect the guy’s work.

lol the only thing those close ups did for me were make me more aware how oddly shapped her head is IMAX 3D didn’t help
I enjoyed it. New girl is waaay hotter to me. Movie was a bit draggy though.
And I got a serious Crysis 2 vibe from the movie at times.
Ok, new directors will jump at the opportunity to but will your seasoned directors? How many other toys/comic franchises that can be turned into movies have the deep mythos of batman you speak of. I’m guessing there aren’t many unexplored franchises, if there are its a flip of the coin whether you get a director that will respect the franchise like Nolan or you get some that spits in the face of fans like Fist of the North Star or Legend of Chun Li
Anyway TF shows what summer blockbusters can do with the right marketing, it proves that even without a good script and a single star they can make a huge profit. Investors will look at this and say we want to make more, studios will commission directors to make more movies like this and because of this we’ll get less good quality movies especially during the summer blockbuster season.
that’s my feeling anyway.
This goes right to what I was saying. Why is he a bad director?

There are a lot of franchises, but studios are relying on the name to carry the $$. I agree, we get what we keep paying for. Summer movies can get away with more because people are willing to get out of the house and just simply want to be entertained. I don’t want to say go in brain-off, but I am not necessarily looking for the meaning of life either.
He makes shit movies. Im sorry but every movie he made, except maybe one (and even I can’t recall what it was), I absolutely hated.
Like I said, its my opinion. You may or may not disagree with me.
Hey, make your point, that’s what these boards are for. By far his best movie was The Rock IMO
The Rock with Sean Connery? THAT MOVIE WAS GREAT!!
That makes my point right there. See, if you can make movies like that, we know your potential, but you are instead giving us shit.
Granted, the cast in The Rock was pretty damn good. Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage in his prime together in a movie beats the hell out of all of Transformers cast, but you still had a solid cast of actors in Transformers. I expect something decent or hell, even ok instead of… well… ass…
…I actually liked The Island, I enjoyed Bad Boys 1 as a kid I think I’ve only ever watched it twice though. :bluu:
But yeh The Rock is his best work by a mile
I put more fault to the writers in the case of these movies than the director. Movie 1 had a decent script/ plot , movie 2 was in a coma (due to the writer’s strike), and movie 3 was pretty solid. The director carries a vision put forth by the screenplay. Star Wars is a great example. I don’t care for A New Hope, but I love ESB and ROTJ. What’s the difference?
ANH - Directed and Written by George Lucas
ESB - Directed by Irvin Kershner; Written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan
ROTJ - Directed by Richard Marquand; Written by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas
All of the Prequels were written and Directed by Lucas.
With Transformers
Kurztman and Orci wrote Movie 1
Kurtzman, Orci, and Ehren Kruger wrote ROTF
Ehren Kruger wrote DOTM
Before we all chastise Bay, remember he’s working with the material that he has been given. He can influence it, but you can see the changes between each of the three of these movies and notice a difference to the change in the writers.
Keep in mind that TF2 was written in under TWO weeks, due to the writers strike at the time.
The only good movie Bay has done is The Rock. He is NOT a great director, he just lucks out. This is a man who consistently goes to George Lucas for advice. He seldomly uses static shots, it’s always slo mo and wild movements during action. EVERY one of his movies has a token black guy for comedic relief. Leonard Nimoy only worked with him due to the fact they’re related (second cousins or some shit, if I recall). He is VERY well known for ridiculous product placement, hence why studio’s love him (he knows how to bring in the extra cash).
I was never a fan of Bad Boys, but the movies weren’t bad, I’ll admit it. But it really seems like he’s just riding The Rock train. The Rock did tremendously well, was a good movie, and then he released nothing but terrible movies. Some of these made tons of money, even though they were absolute ass (Armageddon), mainly due to their release times. Then he was handed a cash cow like Transformers. Like it or not, he basically released some barely decent TF movies, which succeeded on their franchise name alone. I’m almost willing to think that Uwe Boll could have redeemed himself with this franchise.
Put Transformers in the hands of somebody who knows how to write great story lines instead of nonstop random action, and we’ll see a TRUE transformers movie.
lol how often does somebody get to say disney or anime helped them prove a point lol
Shockwave looked pretty cool, especially in his first scene. Too bad he doesn’t get to do more.
I forgot to mention, Starscream was…man.
Just…man.
I’ll be honest, i think it was genius to give us the illusion during the trailers to make us think Shockwave was going to be the main bad guy even though it was

Sentinel Prime.
Which is why I said the story was in a coma overall. They did a decent job crafting it in a smally window of time.
If Bay is lucky, then I need him to buy my lottery tickets
I think that Uwe Boll (who is a terrible director) wouldn’t have done anything for this franchise. For what its worth I think the franchise was looking for action oriented base than an epic story, which is why he was tapped for the job. Oh yes, nostalgia and the name make it easier for people to try it out, but if the movies were “that bad”, the first movie wouldnt have made budget and bombed terribly after the other two.
