Spoiler
Warning: Geek alert! Level 2! Initiate!
** The decepticons plan was for the autobots to resurrect S. Prime with Optimus’ matrix of leadership. Optimus only just got that from the Prime Tomb in the second movie. There was no reason for them to believe Optimus ever had it in the first place, especially considering SP was the leader prior (and as it turns out, none of them actually had it because it was on the Prime Tomb on earth, which no one knew about)*
** The Fallen actually had the matrix of leadership in his hand in the second movie (I don’t actually remember why exactly he needed it); he could have resurrected SP there and then (or tried to). This in turn opens a can of worms but I won’t go down that route…that’s level 10 on the geek scale (I’m trying to keep it at level 2, for my own health).*
** Why not take all of the pillars of power from the ship? Why leave a few with SP? Yes he’s the only one that can activate them, but that didn’t prevent them from taking “hundreds” before?*
** “200” Decepticons teleported from the moon. We’re lead to believe only SP survived on the Ark, so where did these guys come from?*
** How were the pillars of power actually going to end the war on cybertron? This is never actually explained. In the movie, it’s used to transport decepticons AND later Cybertron itself. You could argue this is what SP wanted the autobots to believe and that’s what he told them as a lie. But on Earth, when it is revealed to the audience, Optimus doesn’t even give a shit that. So it’s not a lie, this thing was actually supposed to end a war, but how exa- woah, sorry about that, almost went into level 20!*
.
** Enslaving man kind to rebuild cybertron brings two plot holes: 1) They wanted to wipe them out in the second movie by destroying the sun (that’s how they harvest energon…apparently). 2) Enslaving mankind to help construct a world they know jack shit about? Keep in mind the transformers are on average at least 10 times the size and 100 x strength of humans; how exactly was mankind supposed to help?*
** The reason shooting down the ark is a plot hole is because it carried the pillars of power and the only guy who could activate them - which was the major plot point of the entire movie. If the ark was destroyed (and it very nearly was), there goes megatron’s plan. I guess you could argue Megs was creating a win-win scenario: stage an attack on the ark (part of the plan, make it look believable to the eyes of autobots): if SP survives, he has an ally and a back-up plan on Earth. If SP dies, one less thing to worry about (and he takes out a few autobots). But the latter just destroys the whole purpose of the allegiance in the first place and now we go round in circles.*
** If the autobots were losing the battle on cybertron, why the need for Megs and SP’s ark in the first place? Why the need for SP’s secret defection, why not make it open and why then shoot at your own ark?! Dammit went into level 30. Sorry.*
End of plot hole analysis
I’ll concede on the other points**Warning: Geek alert! Level 2! Initiate!
