Currently I am in the hospital because I have caught Phneumonia. The doctors say that I have 2 weeks…of isolation. That means that I can’t really do anything. I brought over my ps2 and cvs2…and now I’ve been playing it for quite a while. I never really HAVE had competition…cuz i don’t drive. So i mainly use the training room. I was wondering what things you guys can recommend ME doing as I have no compeition…a lot of spare time…and I REALLY want to get good.
So…what are some good things I can record the dummy doing to me? What should I be doing to strengthen my execution? Things like that. If you guys could help that’d be great…Not only that but I’m on aim quite a bit…and if you’d like to drop a line at me…(since i’m really bored) I’ll most likely have some sort of conversation wit ya.
training without competition is like the story of my fighting game career. it’s all about execution. just keep on practicing combos, CC’s, links, links INTO CC’s, and all that stuff until you’re nearly 100%. train sagat to throw low tiger’s at you and RC blanka ball or RC fireball through them. the feature on www.video-opera.com on CC’s is extremely well done, or look through old threads for good stuff too if you have that much free time. play the computer every now and then, but you should definitely be in training mode a whole lot more than you’re playing the computer.
it really depends on what characters you use though.
I can give you one piece of advice. Well, not advice as such, more of a warning: be prepared to be uber bored. I think CvS2 is one of the most boring games to play on your own. I can’t stand a half hour in the training room let alone 2 weeks. I feel for you.
i have played for 1.5 years without comp, and all I got from it was knowledge of the characters so bored that I went playing everybody and I practiced my execution, just try to hit c.lk, c.lk xx super with sagat 10/10 one you get that, try c.lk, s.lp, c.lk xx super 10/10, once that works try c.lk, s.lp, s.lp, c.mk xx super 10/10 etc etc
Plus: I learned to RC by fucking in training mode, it had me busy a long time… Thats always a plus to learn
It’s very hard to train in training mode without knowing what other players like to do.
When I first started playing a serious opponent a couple weeks ago, I learned the awesomeness of going into reaction dp from a defensive crouch. Stuff like that.
it isnt about that gig4ls, its about execution in training mode 90% of the time, the other 10% is just recording the dummy doing some stuff, which you try to figure a way around it fireballtrap
seriously: I know a guy who can parry all kinds of shit in 3S, yet I always win coz he cant punish me after those, and I can
If I were you, you should practice A-groove if you really wanted excel from that game. I know how you feel because your situation is also my situation in the past. Do you have pc in your room? if you have one download some of the CC training mode and practice it you will be better at no time. And I played this game for four and a half years vs cpu and players I still enjoyed it. Get well soon bro.
Doom: Thats great advice…I’m gonna start practicing those links hard core now.
Gunjack: The characters/grooves i use is as follows:
P groove: Kyo/Cammy/Sagat/Blanka (My main team)
C groove: Sagat/Chun Li/ Guile (Team I want to get good with)
Cheester: I don’t really use A groove…never really thought about using it either. However I do want to become very good at this game. Where can I find these vids?
I just rescently playing 3s because a friend of mine got it for me a couple days ago THANKX JALBERT . So I’ve been playing that game for a couple days now…And I’ve learned that switching from game to game can be pretty nice. In 3s I learn how to parry correctly and learn my opponents patterns. Now I take that into my P groove in Cvs2…and it works out for me pretty well.
So from here on out I think I am going to be focusing on RC’s, Execution, taking things from KCXJ’s “scrub tactics” thread and putting them into the recording of the dumbies, and lastly Exectution…thats something I REALLY need to work on.
BTW Can someone teach me how to RC lk Funky Kick…I don’t really get the concept of the negative edge while holding lk. Thankx guys
You don’t release the punch when you do the RC. So it would be like… :d: :df: :lp: + :lk: (hold) :r: release :lk:. An alternative to this is double tapping :lp::lk:, but that only works for characters that don’t have moves that conflict with each other. I’m more comfortable with double tapping stuff like a lp hadoken from Ryu. It’s all up to personal preference.
Try working on setups, execution, and reaction time.
Setups:
Familiarize yourself with proper distances and “plan” a series of events. e.g., cammy’s down mp link into down mk is a good distance to dash into throw? Or is close standing hp link into down mk a better one? Or for kyo, down lk link into close standing hk xx rdp kick results in throwing distance if opponent blocks? or parry distance into stand hk xx super? things like that i guess would help.
Execution:
Try working on supers/specials in particular situations (that is, not just standing there). E.g., when practicing w/ cammy, have blanka record random slides. then just repeat standing roundhouse xx super. It gets boring after a while, but it’ll train your hands to to “naturally” execute them in matches.
Reaction Time:
Set dummy on random block, then try short, short, super. See if you can bust out a super if the shorts connect. And if it’s blocked, play around with set ups.
yes RC is right: Random block in training mode is Capcom’s best invention, it helped me so much to actually see i dont need to do c.lkx3 xx super to hit-confirm it, I can do it with c.lkx2, but I get a ltitle anxious in real matches so I didnt do any super if it was a too short opponent, but now that I KNOW I can do it 10/10 times I lost all those worries…
Yeah you guys are correct, random block is an extrmely useful asset, I’ve been doing it very quite a while and I’ve gotten pretty good at it so far.
Thanks Rc for the input, you reminded me that I should start working on set ups…
Lately I’ve been practicing punishing whiffs hard with level 3’s. Recording Sagat doing: walk forward, walk back, hesitate, s.hp whiff…then I try and punish. This basically starts getting my reaction time up to speed.
I’ve rescently noticed that the weakest of my 3 characters is Sagat. What advice can you give to me to get better with him?
RC funky kick is easy, it just clicked with me a few days ago.
Anywho, if you do a half circle forward + roll, you get funky kick. So whenever the system has to choose between fireball and funky kick, the kick will come out. The command I use to funky kick is b, db, d+roll, df, f. Don’t even worry about the negative edge, you just need to tap roll once. Don’t worry about holding roll, cuz you should never have to. Remember to do it quickly, almost forcefully.
