"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

Using EX meter to reversal is way less of a resource issue than a lot of the other cast. There’s only 4 characters that have meterless reversals and the list of characters with EX reversals is also pretty small. It still affords you to get pressure off without having to resort to burning V Gauge or guessing their pressure isn’t tight with mash jab or backdash. You can always build more super meter once you’re on the offense any way. That alone puts her defensive game on a different level from Laura. Laura can only hope meaties or strings are timed wrong to get out of stuff without V Reversal.

She walks considerably faster than Laura so she doesn’t have to play a slower, grappling style game to move in on people’s footsies. Her buttons and pressure are balanced to normally be as good as Laura’s with her walk speed and options from a range. You have to play a more modest game until you build your first EX meter or start building towards V Trigger. Which is fine since she does have the walk speed to move in and out of things better than most of the cast.

Most videos have shown that once her resources are ready, she can easily take a round no matter how far back she was. If you land enough s.MK target combos you can end a round quickly without much resource.

Any reason why sako sometimes uses b.mp over s.mp in his meaties? In case people jump?

This character has a tool for every situation. She has no glaringly obvious weakness people can exploit. The thing is playing her optimally isn’t nearly as straight forward as the rest of the cast, and the execution to do it is about 10x harder than anyone else.

This characters skill ceiling is astronomical, but the curve is by far the steepest.

Not sure. b+MP is only 0 on block. Unless it has a bigger hit box or something.

I dunno, her walk speed is about the same as Chun, Karin, Cammy or Vega but they all have MUCH better buttons than Ibuki. Even her dash is slower and covers less ground than those other characters. It’s almost as if the developers told you to ignore neutral entirely with her and rely on kunais for poking until you eventually get the bombs.

that’s what I thought his reasoning behind using it was, to catch people in case they neutral jump

Pan just dropped another solid video too:

Nah, you just have to know how to counter poke and whiff punish. Both of those will lead to you landing hits and getting pressure. Xian and EX Pugera are winning matches without only relying on kunais. Just gotta know where/when to place buttons and use your walk speed to move into ranges where your buttons can make the first move.

yeah, her neutral requires a smarter approach then say cammy, chun or karin who just sort of throw shit out there at poke range or get in with a special move that’s safe on block

EX Pugera was a high level Japanese SFIV Ibuki so look forward to what he’ll do in V as well.

Just like I’ve been saying for a while, the video explains that her walk speed and hit boxes design her to be a counter poking character, not a raw poking character. You’re fishing for opportunities to beat stronger hit boxes and then start pressure.

What I mostly see is both spamming f+HK to fish for counter hits and then waiting to counterpoke with cr. MP into kunai and bombs. They also both pretty much get away with murder as many LP > MP > HP target combos go unpunished.
And finally it’s pretty interesting to notice that Xian won 10 rounds out of 12 with bomb combos…

Throwing out f+HK and c.MP is pretty much what the tutorial tells you to do any way.

You don’t really need her jab target combo outside of punishes, so with time that won’t be an issue. Ken is still getting away with “fake mix ups” 4 months later.

Winning rounds with bomb combos make sense. They lead to solid damage and reset potential. EX Pugera was winning quite a few rounds without bombs.

it’s not that easy to punish, I find myself online trying to punish it and coming up short. you don’t expect them to continue the TC because there are frame trap setups off of lp > mp. I’ve also yet to be punished when I flub it in matches

May I ask you which setups? Isn’t LP > MP alone like -5 on hit?

s.mk or c.mp, which both lead into some nasty openings. only thing I’ve found to be beaten by is a mashed dp or super

I also see sako have success when he follows up a blocked lp > mp > lk TC with a s.mk, and if that’s blocked too a f.hk

I know I’d have the reactions to punish the target combo on block reliably. Especially if they completely it with the HP. It’s easy when you are playing her and know it’s something to look for any way.

Some people suppose you can hit confirm LP, MP into s.LK or s.HP depending on block or hit, but that seems like a hell of a hit confirm.

Here some bomb traps I use on block a good bit cause I hate dying with full vt bar.

The first three are against an opponent trying to jump out after block stun. The 3rd gets beaten out by 3 framers so I use the fourth one against people who like to mash their 3 frame jabs. The nice thing about these setups are that they have nice options even if the opponent blocks the initial trap. I’ll prob post those later if I have time.

And apparently you can VTC charged Kunais even before they connect with the opponent so I’ll prob be looking for setups with that when I have time.

Hmm, but all those sequences are negative on block… doesn’t a frame trap require to be positive by nature?

It’s what they suggest in the Prima Guide yeah. Although the MP > HP is pretty generous in terms of buffer window the confirm into LK needs to be done damn fast… I think they should’ve given a little more time for that too.

It’s for the exact same reason why I use bhk as a frame trap for chun. It has less pushback on block and is a CH confirm.

Well i thought about it, and since it is a two hits normals it shouls break armored attacks making it anti-armored specials to pressure characters like laura, rog, alex, birdie, etc. I have yet to practice how to use it in my game though lol i dont even know which specials have 1 point of armor and what specials have even more armor.

they probably mean cr.lp>st.lp>st.mp then confirm the HP or lk on block.

Just practice the cr.lp version on random block in training mode, the confirm isn’t hard right there.
