"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

I’m not really good at meter management because I play smash bros. What are some examples of when I should use ex specials?

ex raida through fireballs
ex kunai into raida from far cr.mp for more dmg
ex air kunai to get in and prevent antiairs
ex kazekiri as an invincible reversal

Can some lab monster from here test if this is actually real?

Unseeable left/right mixup:

Lmh target combo xx kunai v trigger cancel. Immediate cr.mp,fhk then command dash crossup/non crossup

So now the bomb goes off just as the command dash is happening and just after the opponent recovers from the fhk. The bomb obscures where ibuki ends up, it’s completely invisible. The non crossup version can’t be jumped or jabbed out of, the crossup version can be jabbed out of as the timing is a couple frames slower.

vskill vs zangief is SO GOOD. if he ever charges his hp you just charge vskill for 100% hit.
sends him flying aswell.
decent antiair from long distance jumps.
kunai spam annoys the hell out of him.

A realization I had today was quit being so predictable. I think Ibuki’s greatest tool is her multiple approach options while being able to harass at longer distance with kunai’s. You can really get in peoples head and off their reads with her command dashes, pokes, slide and multiple jump arc changes.

I fall into the trap of trying to land tech I see on here, but from very predictable approach angles. The minute I start mixing up approaches everything starts opening up. What I found was this doesn’t mean going all crazy and playing un-safe, it just means your spacing game has to be really on point while forcing your opponent to make quick decisions or turtle up.

I know this is nothing revolutionary or good advice to a lot of you, but I had trouble opening people up or figuring out how to approach people and I know I’ve read a lot that other people have had the same issues.

I am starting to get the picture that she is pretty much an “anti footsie” character, and I need to start playing to her strengths rather than the style of how I was playing karin.

If am wrong with this generalization to her game-plan, please help a scrubby silver shark out

I just started playing her yesterday, and I’m having so much fun.

fucked up my setup.
still worked out rofl

Idk if this is really match up knowledge however, I’ve found that at least against Karin and Rog and any one in general trying to cr.mp is a horrible idea when you are trading blows in footsies. Their strings beat out her Cr.mp everytime even when you think it would counter hit. St.mp on the other hand counter hits like a boss, and will link into itself allowing for some sick plays. St.mp is essential. On block after 2 st.mp you can do fhk and it will frame trap/crush. Very useful. Mix in a dash and a throw and you will have the opponent freakin out. I was struggling with Ibuki until I learned some frame traps and which tools to use to poke. Besides that I find myself barely using fmk anymore because it’s so damn slow and does not give you the same adv it did in 4. Ie you can be grabbed out of it and hit low. Kind of bs imo but it is what it is.
Bnb random shit:

Cr.mp xx ex kunai j.kunai raida/dp
To effectively do this you need to wait until you start to fall from the jump before tossing a kunai or it will whiff. Timing.

St.mp st. Mp fhk
Frame trap. Usually will crush. Raida follow up I believe.

Cr.lp TC xx ex kunai j. Kunai raida

MK TC cmd jump mk
Do mk before it will hit in front? Do it after it will cross up. Nice way to keep pressure after kneeing someone.

Basic bomb
Hit confirm anything into kunai xx VT lp.raida lk.dash super.

Pretty basic stuff but it seems to be working well for me. Mix in dashs and throws to throw people off once they start blocking the frame trap. Don’t try to go air to air with mk, it fails everytime. That’s basic ibuki in a nutshell.

about that. dont bother with lpmphp into vt into super. it does like +60 damage or smth compared to just raida ender. its a waste of 3 meters unless it kills.
honestly i’d only super as a punish, like cr.mp xx mk dp xx super or st.mp.
in target combos + vtrigger its kinda garbage.
treat your vtrigger like its your 2nd super and dont do both at same time unless you start from a normal and it kills

Chris G uses raida ender to get his Kunais back.
Just pointing that out there for info.

True but it works for some extra oomph fir style kills.
Bomb bnb
Hit confirm xx ex kunai VT lp.raida mk.dash hp.raida. Combo training easy combo.

Okay, just throwing this out there, I usually hate ibuki. Like every game she has been in I haven’t liked any of her designs. However, I have never had so much fun losing so many matches in my life. Winning with this character is so satisfying because she forces you to play totally different that any other character in the cast. She has so many different approaches, that it’s ridiculous! She forces me to play footsies, which not many characters in this game do and I totally respect it. I like the challenge of figuring out what I need to do in certain situations as opposed to being flowcharty. On top of that she is a fragile glass cannon that can go crazy with v trigger setups. Whoever designed her this time around, I give them mad props. I am enjoying this character more than I ever have and I plan on sticking with her no matter what. I doubt that she will ever become my main, but maybe a pocket. I really really enjoy her!

I found out you can link mk.dp and ex off of counter hit st.mp. So if you use a two st.mp block string and you get a counter hit on the second one, you are too far away to link into st.mk but still are able to reach with her dp.

lol, no that doesn’t work. You can always block after you tech a throw XD Damn that would be strong if that worked haha. But he just didn’t block in the video.

A simple reset I discovered, medium command dash then jump, weird looking and could lead to a quick stun, good for putting them back into the corner after a corner cross up, loses to delayed DPs

why ex tho?
you can xx normal kunai xx vt - hp xx hk kazekiri - mkdash - hp raida

I mean, it is not crystal clear for me, maybe if the bomb explosion hitbox is out the same frame that you recover from grab after the animation you cannot block? This game has weird stuff happening in the gap of 1-3 startup frames for everything so i wouldnt be surprised. Remember that you cannot block or tech right after you land from a jump so the same could be happening there.

If it’s Your own replay, you can just turn on inputs and see if he was holding back

You probably know this, but you can turn on inputs in other people’s replays as well. Let’s you see lots of “secret” jap tech and such.
