"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

So, I am seeing a lot of hit confirm bomb combos but I find myself dying with full v-trigger all the time because a hit confirm just never presents itself.

I am curious if anyone has any good bomb setups off of something unsafe on block (like how the shotos pop their triggers)

i posted one earlier
lp-mp-lk TC xx VT - slightly walk forward (like 1-2f) - st.mp - cr.mp xx mk dash

often youā€™ll get counterhit on either st.mp or cr.mp, if you do cancel cr.mp into kunai and bomb will explode in time to hit them. or you can cross anyway and they will get hit regardless.
on counterhit +kunai it does like 260dmg

so far it was blocked exactly 0 times. now when i see ibuki v-trigger cancel on block i just v-reversal because its 100% some BS setup

Iā€™m really glad you asked that questionā€¦ Cause that made me think. So I went to try out sweep xx v trigger and yeah itā€™s pretty amazing:

On hit ibuki has tons of frame advantage to setup anything, even on quick rise.

On block it seems to be +5 so a cr.mp is guaranteed and the opponent canā€™t do anything except v reversal or reversal. From the cr.mp you have a lot of options:

Lk or mk or hk dash

Or Cr.mp,fhk target on block then do a command dash for an unseeable left/right mixup.

On hit you can do mk command dash behind the opponent with an advantage on quickrise or backrise, and behind them no matter what. So itā€™s a really good braindead ibuki setup.

The biggest problem is that on block people will more than likely ALWAYS v reversal ibuki so as not to take the mixup.

Iā€™ll try to find some setups from blocked and hit target combo next as well.

Donā€™t know if this has been mentioned, but after a forward throw you can use cr mp buffered into ex kunai to catch people mashing buttons on their wake up. On block cr mp whiffs, so no reason not to until they start whiff punishing you.

its not really a problem because then you deny them their v-trigger. and v-trigger extensions against glass cannon are scary.
and you still have the second bomb to use on hit after ex.kunai

I was playing around in training mode with sweep xx <- bomb (medium timer), it allowed enough time to do an over head, and 2 medium command dashes in case they blocked the overhead, Iā€™m not that good or spent enough time in training mode trying to figure out a better situation but Iā€™m sure they exist off of this. (pretty sure Iā€™ve heard that you can combo off of an overheard on hit but it isnā€™t something Iā€™ve put in my toolbox yet)

you can grab the vreversal if they do it after you do your vtrigger cancel though. Fun part is that it links with the explosion lol

another option is just regular kunai off the cr.mp to confirm into vtc
also if they dont quickrise the kunai wont come out and you can st.hk, f.hk for a meaty

yeah regarding vtrigger i think we need to start refining the best options to cancel into it for opening someone up rather than just combos
also the best v trigger combo enders to set up the 2nd bomb opening them up

yeah i saw the replay and most probably it was Zaferino not blocking >_> fake guard break damn, i really wanted it to be real.

oh really? man thats some mika level bs setup.
although i think you can mash it out with jabs after v-trigger cancel

you can use cr.MP > kunai ex > vtrigger cancel, for your second bomb, if it hits you can link the bomb with a raida L, if not you can continue your pressure with s.MP > cr.MP > dash cancel (remember that this loses to v.reversal). For your first cancel i have found cr.LP > kunai L > vtrigger cancel to be the panic button when tehy are in your face, kinda like what ken does with cr.MP > fireball then cancel when he is about to die in the corner.

Also, making your sweep safe with vtrigger cancel is always good. If they get hit or crush countered you can have your 50-50 on wakeup as well

yeah doing v.reversal after that s.MP you mentioned is the way to go, but if they wait too much for it they might be grabbed as well and fall into the explosion

I think the real escape there is option select tech with jump up-back + grab in 4-5 frames. But then again it loses to a perfectly timed s.MP. The setup is literally a lotery at that point. And they can have DP options as well that might or might not lose to the explosion when they land

its pretty hard to grab v-reversal if they do it when you do your v-trigger though (they are still in blockstun after st.lk). mentally you prepare to walk forward and mp

add:
a lot more scarier setup is st.hp xx vtrigger and then the rest is the same.
from what iā€™ve noticed people are not afraid to press buttons after lk. they might be after a heavy because everyone is used to karins st.hk and all
you have more frame advantage with this and it works even if you hit with just a tip.

so basically you can land this setup from ANY range. upclose you can use raw st.mp. lots of frame advantage too.
honestly iā€™d not use it in target combo entirely, lk not scary enough to deter them from pressing buttons and this is what you want

Jesus Christ.

sako going to Evo?
I hope to see an Ibuki like this at Evo

After having seen that vid I actually think chun might be done for him. Heā€™s got a pep in his step in those vids that I havenā€™t seen from him with chun. He looks way more confident with ibuki now. Heā€™s got setups for most buttons and lots of things after every button. You can just tell heā€™s much more confident with ibuki.

I feel the same way though I havenā€™t even actually used here against people yet. She still feels like sf4 ibuki to me in many ways.

-editā€¦ Just played a set.

Wow, that sweep setup is the guts. If it hits as a CC ibuki gets a free ex kunai while they are downed, into more shit. LOL.

And on block itā€™s GREAT.

LOLā€¦ I LOVE this setup

I love the shimmy into s.mk target hes doing. Get to start the party on any throw whiff.

another small thing i noticed, bonsho kick after throw techs, looks perfectly spaced to CC punish any button

Finally got to play ibuki, I donā€™t know if anyone knows but i find out CC Sweep xx V-trigger you can combo after it by blowing the bomb with Ex kunai. I was like :o

I must try that naow! Can we ex kunai release another bomb right at the explosion and still have time to juggle anything (reset?)

Managed to get some time to have a proper look at Ibuki. I just want to say that while her strong offensive game is (rightfully) played up a lot I find that she plays the lame game amazingly well as well. That back walk speed is godlike and she has the tools to keep people out with v-skill, ground kunais, c.HP, s.HK, air grab, etc.

I can only think of Nash and Ryu as the only two characters that share the same amount of depth as her in this game. Itā€™s this versatility which is what I think will make her a true top tier monster later in the gameā€™s life.
