"Train harder!" - Ibuki Street Fighter V Discussion

Poor phrasing perhaps, but I meant that Capcom is more at ease with editing characters for SFV, but they weren’t for SFIV, which is why characters like Hugo make NO sense in SFIV’s engine. They just ported the animations, even if they knew they didn’t want it to operate the same way as it did in the game they took it from. While overall they did an okay job making it make somewhat sense, SFIV’s hitboxes are a mess. (And yes I am aware of the original hitbox system, but 7 years later… still a mess.)

SFV however has a new base, and isn’t entirely banking on nostalgia to get it’s sales like SFIV was. So they are willing to change base character designs. However, this doesn’t stop Capcom from being a very scared company. This is evident by the minimalistic design with characters, with a heavy emphasis on restriction in order to keep the play in a very limited spectrum, to avoid “bullshit.” I understand their mindset, but it is something I hope to see eased up on in season 2. There are a lot of things they are restricting that could hardly adopt itself as bullshit, and is really just a massive degradation in options.

There are a myriad of reasons that SFV’s hitboxes are the way they are, and while I completely understand why they are that way, it does not make them excusable. More to the point, Capcom could have made the animations more reflective of their intended hitboxes in this game, but did not, despite redesigning a lot of animations. Blah blah blah, this is something for another thread, one which is already made and I’ll likely post in again at some point.

However, this is all very non-Ibuki related. To keep things Ibuki related…

  1. While most of the commentators were saying that you could only combo into 5LP after her overhead, I feel like in the three hour footage or so that we have of Ibuki, that I saw someone link a 2LP after it without a counterhit as well. If so, then her 2LP may also be 3 frames, which would make sense considering it’s always been 3 frames. However, sifting through 3 hours of footage for that one thing is tasking. So if anyone saw it too, lemme know.

  2. The height restriction on her EX Kunai looked moderately low, but can you alter the trajectory of her EX Kunai like you could in previous games? I ask this because it could be very useful if she could jump-EX Kunai punish into a potential combo on throw attempts.

  3. The commentators said you hold the button down to release all the Kunai. Define. Does that mean do the motion for the version you want and hold the button down and it’ll come out with all of them, or is it more like Birdie’s, where you charge just an actual button?

Karin probably forced her to wear a dress.

It’s Ibuki she wears it for easy access.

For… What exactly?

I’ve done a little bit of thinking, and maybe she could use it as a disguise. Also, looking back at old story mode footage, I’m concluding those pink ninja’s around the kanzuki estate don’t actually belong to ibuki’s group, rather karin’s instead. It’s because they contact ibuki’s assistance after we see the ninja’s.

Wasn’t expecting that get up from Ibuki.

I feel like this thread is starting to turn into the juri thread and I don’t like it.

Maybe the balrog thread is more your cup’a’tea?

Ibuki’s whole story in the SF3 series is about getting some of senpai’s dick. She was originally described as a valley girl who didn’t want to be a ninja.

I’ll let Michael Bolton explain.

We’re still better than the feet fetish purple korean warriors.

If I had one wish it would be for an “O.Ibuki” that is basically 3rd strike Ibuki :frowning:

But they changed Ibuki’s fetish now!

She was all about dem hips, now she’s basic pantsu-flash like Sakura

I’m really really gonna miss her headstomp and flip(Tsujigoe) cuz I personally was one of the few folks that used these two specials a lot in my gameplay.
oh well, at least she still has her dashes and her raida.

What are you guys doing until Ibuki comes out? I can’t bring myself to play any of these boring characters anymore after seeing Ibuki in action. I even went back to USF4 and played Omega Ibuki I’m so bored

Does SFV Ibuki have any of Omega Ibukis stuff?

Im just playing ranked with Chun Li still and getting ready for Evo/CEO. Even though everyone is afraid someone is going to blindside everyone and run a train with 2 week Ibuki at Evo, odds are my Ibuki will barely be tourney ready by then. Dudes can barely put Guile together in tournament.

Im sure theres some matchups like vs Gief or Birdie where id rather just have long buttons for mid range instead of playing with their buttons and close options.

Ground kunai exists, ex raida is the same, st.mp is cancelable.

It sucks cause the hardest part of learning new Ibuki will be v trigger setups and dumb TAP kunais. I hate negative edge stuff, I really hope they’re only relevant for zoning or in v trigger combos where you have plenty of time to charge the button. I don’t wanna walk around and have to be ready to anti air with fierce charged kunai all the time

Just intently paying attention to other SFV news related to Ibuki, watching high-level matches in general, and theory-fighting for the time being.

No, unless you are trying to put pressure or out right setting up a kill combo mid-air, dont use the all kunai option. Ibuki’s best friend b.mp and cr.hp are better options.

Same, I stopped playing after seeing her. There’s plenty of other games to keep me occupied until she’s out

True, I can fail at GG trials for weeks
