Because Capcom is the most terrified company in the universe, something which explains near all of their design decisions in both SFIV and SFV.
To be more specific, Capcom was scared of changing anything about characters they imported, including move designs and idol stances and such. Capcomâs fear to change what fans love is the main reason that SFIVâs hitboxes are so screwed up, because they had to balance around existing animations without actually changing the animation itself. Copy-paste, alter stuff in the background.
Youâd think that would make SFV hitboxâs more matching but theyâre not. However, thatâs an entirely different error by Capcom, built around the same concept of fear. Not going to get into that here.
Capcom is more willing to alter stuff with SFV, which is why characters are generally changing as a whole.
SFV is changing the design and play style of most of the characters. Ibuki can glide on a parasail and throw anime bombs at you now so it makes more sense for her to be a bit more giddy. Theyâre also further playing out her relationship with a rodent so thereâs that. Bison teleports during his dash and is way more flashy than he ever was. Thereâs a clear emphasis on making the characters stand out past their basic specials that theyâve had for 20 plus years.
@Skiegh I donât mind changes at all. Iâm not part of those who wonât play a character anymore just because its design is different (unless itâs Rose). Itâs just that this particular design makes me anxious just by looking at it. But whatever, if her playstyle is fun Iâll still play the shit out of her.
Wait, we arguing that Capcom is afraid of change, over something that was changed from IV to V.
In any case, IVâs hit/hurt boxes were a result of backlash against the alpha builds which used 3D fighter style hit collision. The were janky in part because they had to redo them midway through development.
I believe SFVâs hitboxes were made the way they were because people still didnât like the ones in IV which were made to match the outlines of the characters better.
Again with the contradictions, saying that they arenât willing to change, and then stating that they are.
Also, for the record, itâs âidleâ stance, not âidolâ. The latter keeps making me think that the charactersâll put on frilly dresses and break out into song.
