Live Steam - I am hoping to work something out with slash on the LS set up. DrMario12 has come a LONG way since TP2, he will likely be at this event also, since we are doing Smash also.
Jacob - I am a gambling man to some extent and to own a business you sort of have to be.
We will prob keep 5-10 PCs set up and take down 10-15 PCs (we have 20) freeing up another 1/3 of the floor space, which means the tournament will have about 800 sq ft + the tent for hanging out outside.
Smash will be at this event, but more of a side event as I am doing this for SF mostly.
The HOPE is that since NWM3 has been temp canceled and a couple SF ppl came to me to ask me to help out with setting up something, I am willing to take a gamble.
HONESTLY the couple people who do not like GC think they remember something about it from SEVEN YEARS AGO. That was 1 - SEVEN YEARS AGO, 2 - partly bad memory on their part because I know the previous owners WELL and I know what went down here and 3 - It was an entire ownership group ago.
Other then the name and the location NOTHING about GC is the same as it was seven years ago.
So its time those couple of people let go of the past and got over their own ignorance and faulty memory.
As for Casual Set ups, no problem. I have 8 360s and 14 TVs.
Some TVs will be used for Smash, but I think we will be OK all in all.
No one is more into “gaming” then I am. I understand how all of this works. I have been doing it as a business owner for 5 years, and from a tournament standpoint, pretty successfully all in all.
Smash was VERY resistant to Spect Fees and me keeping part of the entry fee (I dont usually charge a “venue fee”, I list out ONE $$ amount and then I pay out, depending on the game, 60%-80% of total entry fees and the rest is my venue fee), because they were use to $3 Hour Events and such.
Now, they pay whatever I ask of them because they KNOW it will be a quality event run by someone who actually likes doing this and even Smashers have some to realize that that is worth something.
WAY WAY WAY back when I started this, Jumpfreak was PISSED when he added up the total prizes paid out and realized only 75% was paid out, because he was use to $3-$5 house events, etc… He posted on SmashBoards bashing me about how is 2nd place prize should have been like $7 more or something… 1st place at that time was Ka-Master, with Eggz, Tori, Silent Wolf and Bladewise all in top 10 spots… Bladewise bashed on me with him… All of those guys I listed (except Tori because he has gone AWOL now and no one sees him) are the biggest supporters of what I do now and have been for almost all 5 years. Because they came to realize that when they have a tournament at GC and run by me, its not some shit house event.
The bracket gets run. It gets seeded correctly. etc…
I can take anything anyone shovels at me, as long as they are not bitches about it and can take it when I shovel back.
GameClucks, through its TourneyPlay extension, is doing some HUGE things right now.
I would like to see SF involved in those events. See the post about the two December events I am working on/with.
The Pro Sports Team event could be FRIGGING HUGE.
I am on the verge of having an opportunity to run a West Coast circuit, for lack of better description a West Coast MLG.
Events like this one in August at GC will help me determine if SF will be a part of that. Its pretty simple for me. Take a chance while it is cheap to do that, then spend $1000’s taking a chance down the road to get burned.
So the Aug GC/TP6 event is a test for me.
Is my goal to make money? YES IT IS. I have never and will never deny that. Anyone who thinks tournaments should all be run as charity events is insane and has obviously never run anything in their life or is independently wealthy and does not care.
GameClucks helps pay my bills. It has a host of its own bills to pay also.
IT IS A BUSINESS and as such must make money.
Sorry to those who think I should do this for free… I wont.
I do enough free events as it is. (and when I say free, I mean they cost me about $500-$100 in my time and equip and I get NOTHING, usually not even free parking)
ITT Tech in Everett on July 31st - FREE
InfernalLAN in Dec - FREE
Sakura Con last 3 years - FREE
PAX 2010 Smash - FREE
Pro Sports Team Event in Dec - Prob do it for really cheap
I could list 5 or 6 more events in the last three years that I gave WAY MORE then I got.
Do those, possibly, benefit me in other ways that help offset the costs? Yeah, sometimes they do through advertising, but usually not.
Anyway… wrote more then I intended.
Help make this event successful and lets get some big things going in the PNW with SF. Talk to Smashers, they will tell you I have been a huge asset for them. Talk to Halo players, they will say the same.
