TourneyPlay presents PNW Fighter Series I - SSF4, Brawl, N64 Smash - Aug 21st 2010

given the attendance of street fighter players to gc events why would you close down your venue to cater to us? id like to quote the “dont shit where you eat” philosophy because its dope you wanna put on a street fighter event but like everybodys sayin you gotta get that gwop nigga. is it impossible to do your regular saturday business with sf4 as the side shit so you get your usual 500 and then a little on top. seems to me like we got a few people who support gameclucks on this board. IS ANYONE WILLING TO VOLUNTEER? like run brackets, find people, keep the peace and all that other shit? i mean i wouldnt risk 500 bucks to hope to break even to hopefully put on a good event, but im not much of a gambling man. im a hennessy man, and its the same every time. AMAZING.

ionno how big gc is or how its setup but i think if theres a 5 dollar spectator fee then there should be casual setups, or like food/drinks. like i dont think niggaz would mind that. who knows if we can even get 100 people to this event. we dont have any big names on the card so who is even gonna watch the stream? 50 people? lol, i wouldnt do this shit for free either but dont lose any profits over an event that may or may not be successful.

if i was a smash player and i came to play at gc every week and it was closed on a saturday for some other bullshit game i dont play id be pretty pissed. well not really, cuz i dont give a shit about gaming hardcore anymore. id just go get drunk and harass bitches but not everyone can be me!

You so thug Jacob. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have no qualms with Slash handling things. :stuck_out_tongue: But I will help out best I can. He has a much better setup for a larger event (cameras/etc on top of the capture) so I wouldn’t even really contend next to that.

I don’t like the idea of charging to watch so i’ll probably stay home n watch the stream if i attend this sooo what are the teams so far?

Dugg eman bokkin?
Future mandel mickey d?
Cole connor frank?
Me francis elias?

Live Steam - I am hoping to work something out with slash on the LS set up. DrMario12 has come a LONG way since TP2, he will likely be at this event also, since we are doing Smash also.

Jacob - I am a gambling man to some extent and to own a business you sort of have to be.
We will prob keep 5-10 PCs set up and take down 10-15 PCs (we have 20) freeing up another 1/3 of the floor space, which means the tournament will have about 800 sq ft + the tent for hanging out outside.
Smash will be at this event, but more of a side event as I am doing this for SF mostly.
The HOPE is that since NWM3 has been temp canceled and a couple SF ppl came to me to ask me to help out with setting up something, I am willing to take a gamble.
HONESTLY the couple people who do not like GC think they remember something about it from SEVEN YEARS AGO. That was 1 - SEVEN YEARS AGO, 2 - partly bad memory on their part because I know the previous owners WELL and I know what went down here and 3 - It was an entire ownership group ago.
Other then the name and the location NOTHING about GC is the same as it was seven years ago.
So its time those couple of people let go of the past and got over their own ignorance and faulty memory.

As for Casual Set ups, no problem. I have 8 360s and 14 TVs.
Some TVs will be used for Smash, but I think we will be OK all in all.
No one is more into “gaming” then I am. I understand how all of this works. I have been doing it as a business owner for 5 years, and from a tournament standpoint, pretty successfully all in all.
Smash was VERY resistant to Spect Fees and me keeping part of the entry fee (I dont usually charge a “venue fee”, I list out ONE $$ amount and then I pay out, depending on the game, 60%-80% of total entry fees and the rest is my venue fee), because they were use to $3 Hour Events and such.
Now, they pay whatever I ask of them because they KNOW it will be a quality event run by someone who actually likes doing this and even Smashers have some to realize that that is worth something.
WAY WAY WAY back when I started this, Jumpfreak was PISSED when he added up the total prizes paid out and realized only 75% was paid out, because he was use to $3-$5 house events, etc… He posted on SmashBoards bashing me about how is 2nd place prize should have been like $7 more or something… 1st place at that time was Ka-Master, with Eggz, Tori, Silent Wolf and Bladewise all in top 10 spots… Bladewise bashed on me with him… All of those guys I listed (except Tori because he has gone AWOL now and no one sees him) are the biggest supporters of what I do now and have been for almost all 5 years. Because they came to realize that when they have a tournament at GC and run by me, its not some shit house event.
The bracket gets run. It gets seeded correctly. etc…

I can take anything anyone shovels at me, as long as they are not bitches about it and can take it when I shovel back.

GameClucks, through its TourneyPlay extension, is doing some HUGE things right now.
I would like to see SF involved in those events. See the post about the two December events I am working on/with.
The Pro Sports Team event could be FRIGGING HUGE.
I am on the verge of having an opportunity to run a West Coast circuit, for lack of better description a West Coast MLG.
Events like this one in August at GC will help me determine if SF will be a part of that. Its pretty simple for me. Take a chance while it is cheap to do that, then spend $1000’s taking a chance down the road to get burned.
So the Aug GC/TP6 event is a test for me.

Is my goal to make money? YES IT IS. I have never and will never deny that. Anyone who thinks tournaments should all be run as charity events is insane and has obviously never run anything in their life or is independently wealthy and does not care.
GameClucks helps pay my bills. It has a host of its own bills to pay also.
IT IS A BUSINESS and as such must make money.
Sorry to those who think I should do this for free… I wont.
I do enough free events as it is. (and when I say free, I mean they cost me about $500-$100 in my time and equip and I get NOTHING, usually not even free parking)
ITT Tech in Everett on July 31st - FREE
InfernalLAN in Dec - FREE
Sakura Con last 3 years - FREE
PAX 2010 Smash - FREE
Pro Sports Team Event in Dec - Prob do it for really cheap
I could list 5 or 6 more events in the last three years that I gave WAY MORE then I got.

Do those, possibly, benefit me in other ways that help offset the costs? Yeah, sometimes they do through advertising, but usually not.

Anyway… wrote more then I intended.

Help make this event successful and lets get some big things going in the PNW with SF. Talk to Smashers, they will tell you I have been a huge asset for them. Talk to Halo players, they will say the same.

Everyone seems to be confused by this. If you go to watch, it’s free. If you go to play casuals, $5 venue just like everyone else entering the tournament. Very good deal IMO

I’m not going to go crazy about “what I knew” because the second that I walked into GC when it was under your management, I was honestly under the impression that things were headed up. The fact of the matter is that you’ve got your stories mixed up…It’s not about what GC was, it’s what I’ve seen in GC within the past year as well as your large ego that makes people withdraw from you.

The true judgement lies where it looks like you’re just looking for another meal ticket/gold mine…ala the Street Fighter community. Any time you do something for “us” you make it seem as if it’s your gift to the scene. We don’t care how many tournaments you’ve run. We don’t care about your tournyplay league. In all honesty, all this community wants is someone who will be willing to give more than they are willing to receive, however, I suppose that’s just not a good mix for you as you’re trying to run a business though, which I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND.

The SF community is beginning to hit the E’sport era and it looks as if things are becoming “industry based.” But this community was never built off of that…it was built off of the love and generosity of it’s members like Brent, Cole, and Zach. Did these guys ever come up? No, and ya know what I feel bad for that. However they knew what they were getting themselves into and they knew what the scene needed.

I’m real sorry if you were under the impression that I was judging GC for it’s full history. That wasn’t the case, though the history has been pretty shitty, the fact remains that it doesn’t really look like a place that I’d like to spend my time or money…behind the counter is still a bully ass jerk and drugs are still being done on the property. Not a good look, and not a game center that I would suggest my 14 year old cousin to go to.

But yeah, post was directed towards me, had to let it fly!

Who is this We you keep speaking of. I know I care about Tourney PLay league, I know others that care about this Tourney Play league. Since Twars has basically nose dived we have but ONE outlet to get any form of tournament experience at the Dojo. Those other names you’ve posted once did AMAZING things but they are off to their own ventures which is perfectly fine. No one will replace them but we need to get a new source of tournament pressure.

Chris there is no reason for you to try and argue with the 10% gripe when you know as a buisness person the 90% of people who are quiet and accepting are going to have your back. There will always be complainers and they will always be the loudest even though they don’t represent what most of a community wants, or rather needs to stay competative. Keep doing what your doing and plenty will be there to support you.

All I know is there is going to be a tournament on August 21st at GameClucks, and I will be there. More tournaments is where it’s at.

What happened to team Dunc!?

Noone wants Fuerte? :frowning:

This is all I need to see and all I need to say.

I’ll probably team up with devin and another smash player haha

I’m excited, and also slightly embarrassed by what this thread has become

can’t you just go “tight, a relatively large northwest tournament is happening in august, i better go because TOURNAMENTS are AMAZING and are THE REASON we play this game” rather than all this silliness?

decently sized tournaments aren’t really held in garages anymore - tournaments aren’t underground like they used to be. Sure they still exist, I’d call the dojo underground for sure, but this is something bigger with a bigger intent.

anyway it’s like 3 am and i only skimmed the topic so if what i’m saying doesn’t really make any sense anymore, meh.

streetttt figghhhttterrrrrrrrr so good.

nevermind, bokkin knows whats up lol

Okay. So the varied opinions are out there. People disagree with this, people disagree with that. Let’s just leave it. Like Carlos said, there’s a tournament. He’s going. Go if you want. Don’t go if you don’t want to go, or even if you don’t want to support the venue.

I should play boxer.

1st off, if let’s keep the personal stuff private as it should always be.

2nd, a big suggestion for the SF tournament is to make sure that all the TV’s are the same for each station, last time I was there I seen 2 flat screen TV’s, and a lot of CRT’s. I know that there are a few people in the scene that have the evo 2009 monitors (since apparently evo 2010 monitors weren’t the same model). I want to say that there are…at least 5 or 6 in the scene, maybe set up something with them so that if they donate their monitor for the event to waive the $5 cover. Also in regards to streaming (and the lack of knowledge that I have for streaming) do we need setups that have hdmi outputs? Or can Slash do the stream on a CRT?

Again keep the debate in PM’s, and as it was stated earlier there’s a tournament going on. Someone stepped in to have an event for the summer after NWM’s 3 was canceled. People are going, some aren’t which is fine. They have their reasons, but this isn’t a thread about why I like/don’t like GC’s. It’s a thread about a tournament. Let’s keep it that way.

I have a PS3 setup with an asus monitor that I dont mind bringing, just let me know if its needed.

There is a big gathering that day in seattle at the park, it smells delicious, gives a great feeling, and im always left with a feeling of upper tranquility

^ disagree

I hope this event has a good turn out. I will be out of town that weekend, but will try and catch some of the stream.

CodeNameV how do you disagree with Hempfest
