TourneyPlay presents PNW Fighter Series I - SSF4, Brawl, N64 Smash - Aug 21st 2010

Josh, Jetay, chill. I’ll talk to Chris about possibly dropping the spectator fee. He’s been running tournaments for a very long time and has probably had to deal with 100 people being at a tournament, only 30 of which entered. I’ll tell him I’ll be on the look out and make sure no one takes advantage of the venue, then I’ll disscuss further with him, and post up. Until then, chill. We’re all friends here

Awesome event! I won’t go, because Riki-oh’s team is just too buff for me though

A very handsome, intelligent man said this about this company awhile back…Jetay, you speak the book harder than anyone else and for that, you are dope.

Basics of the Spect Fee:
1 - I am CLOSING GC for the day to do this event and keep Venue Costs LOW. In order to justify CLOSING MY BUSINESS for the day, I have to make sure I can cover my costs and loss of sales.
Average Saturday at GC can be EASILY $500 in sales.
So at a $5 venue fee, I have to be sure I can get 100ish ppl to BREAK EVEN for what would be my sales day.
Or we could rent out a room at Seattle Center and pay $700 w/o internet, $1000 with internet and then have a $15 venue fee to cover it.

2 - TVs need to be used for people WHO PAY TO BE AT THE EVENT. So allowing everyone and anyone who wants to come in and play friendlies w/o paying anything means tournament slows down and takes longer as randoms are using TVs to play friendlies instead of tournament matches being played.

3 - 99% of the time I only enforce the Spect Fee to ppl who show up with a controller. So your GF decides to come and watch you play, not likely to charge her, because she is not playing. With the number of events going across the day, I need the tournaments to RUN and get done, not drag on forever because 20 people showed up who had no intention of helping cover the costs to run a tournament and slowing everything down.

4 - Mickey D’ … so much to say, not worth the time though.

Wow…come on people.

This dude is happy to open up a quite large venue in a private area where we aren’t really limited to sound. Where amenities are provided (drinks and snacks for DAMN cheap) there is QFC/food establishments WITHIN a mile. He has the utilities to provide a stream, contact with sponsors and would LIKE TO HELP ALL OF US with maybe a singles SF league out of him asking for 5$ Venue 10$ game (pretty standard or WAY less than alot of places we use for events). Seriously though, its stupid amounts of depressing that there would be people coming to just watch, I mean if you drive the grand 30 min drive from SEA to LYN and aren’t coming to participate in the tourney what are you doing?

It’s sad I see a bunch of people who’d rather spend 15$ on cheap ass beer / other shit rather that compete or support a large tournament (which we haven’t had SINCE FEBUARY in the greater Seattle areas). If you are coming to just watch (not play casuals you could just watch the stream) he already said if you plan on doing nothing but watching then that’s not what the 5$ is for. I know people sometimes just wanna kick it but this is a tournament and it’s only ONE day. I think kickin it can be put off for that day.

It’s always funny to hear people who talk about how weak Seattle is when they are the ones doing nothing. Please show me how weak we are lol, like ya’ll could.

Chris thanks for taking YOUR time in which you could be focusing on more profitable areas of buisness with the more “sheep” games and allowing us to use your place, know that weakness represented by a few individuals does not represent how the scene is as a whole. The people trying to get good and moving up support this 100%, the dowers are just that, downers.

if I had the opportunuty to just show up to a venue with 40+ top players in the area and only had to pay 5$ to get casuals in whenever I could…WOW I’d be on that sooo fast fast back when I was soooo far behind from everybody.

Jetay, nothing worthing having is free. That’s the way world works and Chris has a buisness to run. The fact he’s even having a Tournament is a testament to his character the way his name has been slandered by people in the SF community. I mean you guys had that rafle for that sponsored merch you had, you had a venue fee at Bragging Rights, all understandable buisness.

People the reason it was SUPER packed at that last tournament was because there were 100+ Smash players for a out of town more or less REGIONAL major tournament for them (plus the hate leaving the inside, most don’t smoke and have no reaosn to go outside) . Considering the timing of this event there will maybe be 40-50 smash players and with a tent out front and weather permitting there will be a place to chill outside with people (maybe have a few outside setups).

Protland, it’d be really nice to see people come up. I don’t know if this is a Stay the night tournament but considering the 3 hour drive I’am sure if you guys really need to stay somewhere someone could get your back, normally I’d offer myself but I think my roomate will be home by then. Honestly I think if we can get the tournament started by 1-2 pm the singles could be done by 5-6pm and 3v3 be done by 8-10pm.

Riki’s team is stacked =)

I don’t see why people are beefin’ over the fees. It’s a business so the end goal should be to make profit. You guys aren’t paying the overhead utilities or the monthly rent for this place. This isn’t an event run by the community, it’s an event run by a business for the community. Fuck, if I owned a business as an occupation I would be looking to profit anytime I ran an event… otherwise, I’m just giving people space to play video games and be a broke ass in reality… get real, it’s a business.

I see alot of people speaking in " Team Friend " mode, instead of " Team Reasonable ".

Bokkin: what did Bragging Rights charge you to be there? There wasnt a venue at Bragging rights… and more then a couple sticks came out of Slash’s pocket… What does AfroDojo charge you, just to be there…

I think both sides are taking things the wrong way. There is nothing wrong with giving a little constructive criticism towards new ideas.

I see the community just expressing that it might be a bad idea and hard to manage charging spectators. Its not to be taking emotionally, you should take it as an insight on what to expect with this type of approach. Nobody is ragging on the event itself, the event itself is a great idea and a great attempt to keep things moving in this fighting game community. I think GC took it the right way and explained the reason why he needed to do the charge. Nothing to be salty about or get emotional about. I think Seattle kats really need to work on not reacting so emotionally because someone outputted a little constructive criticism.

On that note, its up to GC to take the information and move forward with his idea or to change it up a little. Its also up to the players and spectators to either support what the final decision is or respectively not. Just try to reframe from raining negativity on either party for the decisions they make. We will all be a lot happier.

So, on that note…Bokkin, Delucifer…wanna team up? LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Cole

wow didn’t realize there was no cover charge, it slipped my mind because I WOULD have paid it without hesitation regardless.

Afrodojo puts up a fund now, electricity isn’t free and helping those out who help you is always a good idea.

People being so stingy is pretty weak. I know money is tight, but man, 5-15$ is like…3-4 drinks.

Bokkin, There was originally going to be a registration fee at Bragging Rights. Unfortunately, PSU has their own methods of doing their stuff so unless we wanted to hire someone to take tickets (by PSU standards) the Venue Fee was out. Same reason that we weren’t able to use the projection setup either.

@Gameclucks (Chris) I’m all cool with a Venue fee, I have nothing against that. I think the term “spectator fee” needs to be rethought out.

When it comes to SuperSF4, I think that you don’t really need to worry about people coming in to play Casuals DURING the tournament because players will just Tiger Uppercut non-tourney players out of their seats…lol j/k. But if non-registered players show up with their gear, just say its either Register or please take your controller home and come back. Mainly because if people show up and start playing who aren’t registered, whether or not there is a non-player fee or not, it still slows down the tournament.

I’m not 100% sure how this works in Smash.

One option is say “With registration, free drink and burger or something”

Regardless everyone knows I’m going to show up in support of the community and to stream it (and any donations are greatly appreciated lol) because it will definitely help the community grow, and also bring more people from the outside.

(also in regards to streaming, can you pm me the schedule as far as everything is going to work in terms of time)

EDIT: Also just looked at the first post and I’m not sure if this is correct but is Super4 3v3 $5 per person or $5 per team. Might need to clarify on that

Deleterd

I like the idea that if people want to spectate for free, they can… BUT offering them to register as a spectator would get them a a burger and a small drink (some water) which sounds good.

Burger + water != $5, so gameclucks will make a small profit.

change spectator fee to, casual player fee and u got a winner.

good stuff. this tournament is gonna be hype.

my personal thought. if you wanna charge a venue fee, then you supply the streaming. or pay slash or danny to stream for you. If your streaming equipment is a work in progress, then please indicate that for me cause i think its important.

I like this ~laugh~ But actually because it would be considered, in my parents eyes, a job and get them off my back LoL.

Plus be able to convince them in helping me to build my new rig for streaming, which will be, GATLIEK. haha.

ummm. Chris can provide his own stream. He’s already talked about it, if you want to provide your own stream in hopes of getting your name out there so you can turn it into a buisness good for you otherwise I think it’s covered.

teams are 5$ a person to clarify that for you.

Yes Cole I will be on your team, but I think carlos is on a team already…

I’ll team with Cole and Connor if they’ll have me.

Streaming equipment ain’t cheap I’ll tell you that.

Not to nitpick, but he just mention they have a Smash guy that does some streaming - it’s not Gameclucks official streaming or anything like that.

I think it’d be best for jodo/slash to do the streaming. Dr Mario (at least the last time I seen a stream from him) wasn’t that great in regards to quality

(PLEASE NOTE: This was back during TP2…so it could’ve improved since then).

if there’s a recent stream of his I would love to see it. I do know Jodo’s and Slash’s streams are very nice. And a quality stream would be boss

Just wait till you see what I have come August. Its gonna be so hype so pick me ^^
