Console-exclusive characters are always banned on the grounds that allowing them is considered unfair to players who do not own the console to which the character is exclusive.
I always assumed you just play whatevers at the Tourney. Is there actually a console “standard” at fighter tournaments? I just assumed since Kratos would be banned it wouldn’t matter what console you played on. Unless you’re a pad player who prefers a 360 controller to a PS3 controller, or vice versa, but that’s what converters are for so…
While this the norm, I hope Kratos gets examined anyway. The true question is will he be broken. If he is then ban him. Why risk excluding players from a tourney because his main is on the ps3. MK is going to be big, the idea of banning a perfectly fine character based on platform alone may be a bit outdated. One can veiw videos of gameplay and et a hold on how he plays. I am sure all of Kratos’s frame date and strats will be around.
The Matter can be viewed in many ways but we’ll focus on exclusive situations.
Its simply the idea of compromising generally accepted standards around a games content, and thats where standards originate from, comparing different format contents. Accessibility is one of the priorities when standards are considered.
Edit:
Certain accessibility can be waver such as locked contents, because those content are still part of the core game, their accessibility is considered reasonable and sensible for people to manage around thus are considered. Exclusive is not consider as such.
Kratos cannot be allowed to be tourney legal because X360 players have no way to practice against him. If you’re a Kratos player you can practice against every single character on the roster and become intimately familiar with how they work and how to counter them. If you’re an X360 player you have no such way to learn how to fight Kratos; watching youtube videos and reading about frames are poor substitutes for playing against the actual character, and thus Kratos players would have a significant advantage over X360 players at tournaments.
Kratos being tourney legal would screw over 360 players royally and thus he’ll be banned. Sucks if you’re a Kratos player, but that’s life.
I know it makes sense to ban Kratos in tournaments. I want him to be banned. But, have EVO staff announced it yet? I just want to know if it’s official or not.
I pre-paid for the ps3 tournament edition. I will get the xbox 360 one,but only after EVO. I see the ps3 as more a tournament system. I find there are more serious players on the ps3 with BB CS and SSF4.
Almost all of the top SF players are on XBL. I own both systems and even owned the game for both systems. You find matches quicker on XBL also. PS3 pads are great, but at nearly every major tournament, there is always somebody who accidently presses their ps icon button and pauses a tournament match between 2 players and the crowd goes apeshit. 360, most people use tourney sticks so you don’t have that issue.
This is sort of off topic but, I think I am going to get the 360 version just so I wont have to deal with EVERYONE picking Kratos online.
I don’t know why people think this. I’m confident there’s going to be a fair amount of spear/ice ball/dick punch spamming Scorpion/Sub Zero/Cage scrubs out there for variety.
This. You’re more likely to see the various members of the Technicolor Ninja Klan than you are Kratos, in my opinion.
Yeah, I don’t think there’ll be a ton of Kratoses. You’ll get the people who just pick whatever character they like the most (Kratos will be in among these but likely not unduly so) and then the people who just pick whoever’s OP.
yes they have.
in the evo lineup reveal podcast.
yup, the second Kratos was official, he was banned.
^lol sucks for them kratos mainers. lol
they can have all the Kratos on PSN they want on all their different PSN accounts.
Yeah but it won’t mean nothing.
and so kratos is the most op of them all…honestly though why even include a character like kratos when you know he’s never gonna see the light of day in competitive matches?
are the creators just that crazy about god of war or something
if you want this mortal kombat to be fun and competitive
it’s not a wise idea to make a character that’s just for screwing around with friends
I thought it was pretty clear being a competitive game was not the only goal of MK9. The argument that because it’s not tournament relevant means it shouldn’t be in the game is a very odd one to say the least
i mean you don’t see capcom putting guest characters on MVC and SF
then again guest characters are probably a sign they’ll do anything to get more people to buy the game
even throw in a character that they won’t even be able to main if they want to compete competitively
i wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out they did more work on kratos then most characters(I.E More Moves And Balanced Him Out)
