Ima try the second setup for practices, if that doesn’t work I’ll cut practice completely. Personally, I’d like a little time to warm my hands up, get focused and ready to go. Plus my original plan was to use the practice time to do interviews. I still have time to work out the kinks and whatnot, the big challenges I see ahead are the times where ALL teams are playing (round 5, and round 8). I’m hoping to have my system down to a science by then so those days run super smooth.
Plus with tekken being added in mid season I’ll have my hands full.
From what I understood Frank set time aside for teams to be able to do that…Wasn’t that part of the pre TW experience Frank?
My take on the whole “Commentating thing” is that you should have 1 to 2 commentators for every event Frank…not trying to step on people’s feet here, but there are a lot of people who get the whole “commentating is cool and fun!” but at the same time, it’s something supposed to be somewhat done well and needs to be entertaining for others that are watching…just my 2 cents though.
Yeah, some higher quality mics would probably go a long way. Do we have anyone that does digital recording and such? I think we would have at least one person with experience broadcasting and such.
What Digi was talking about is that 10 minutes per team is a bit to long. It is nice and I think important to have the buffer between team matches. It adds to the excitement and gives people some time to get up and mingle, but 20 minutes between matches went on a little long.
Surprisingly everyone that I commentated with went really well. Even with Kriangkrai and Elliott =].
Onto a more pressing matter here. There seems to be a few individuals that are running around spreading rumors about how I made the pot $1000 dollars so that I would take home $660 bucks.
First off, let me say that yes there is a chance that Jeff, Lee, and myself will be taking a little money home. Will it be 660 dollars? NO. The 660 dollars is going towards fees and prizes (like printing up those schedules and rules for you guys, printing up the flyers, those trading cards you guys are hyped about, Trophies/Medals for the top finishers etc. etc.) I got really lucky with no venue fees thanks to Josh, and Jacob. Allowing me to do more for you guys with some neat stuff like possibly custom made SFIV medals and what not. If there is any left over, yes that will be considered take home. But please believe I’m not trying to be cheap about the stuff that I want to do.
Honestly I’m really hurt that someone would go around and trying to make it seem like I’m just doing this to take your guys money. It’s ruining my character, and integrity, and is tarnishing Tournament Wars.
The main reason why I even came up with this idea is because Zach’s place got closed down, there are so many people that are hungry for SFIV, but with out a place to play or tournaments or anything like that. We’ll just fall behind just like we did for marvel when Lanwerx closed down back in 2005? I came up with this idea for YOU guys, there’s nothing that I’m more proud of than our scene and all the great people that I’ve gotten to meet. I mean I can see Team Seattle becoming what it used to be for marvel in 2002/2003. Just a super tight knit community that were beasts. The only way to keep it going is to have events which is why I am trying to make this work. I think these people spreading this rumor don’t really understand how much time and effort I’ve already put into this event before it even started, and how much MORE time and energy I’ll be putting in while the event is going on. I mean I’m missing out on things too in my personal life. A great example is there’s a party coming up for a good friend of mine that’s not in the scene. When they told me it was Saturday night, I had to decline the invite because of tournamentwars. This means so much to me, and for someone to try and tarnish my true intentions with slanderish remarks about greed makes me sad and pissed off at the same time.
I do appologize for the long post. But to repeat, yes there’s a chance that I will take home some money from this event. How much is going to depend on what I have left over after taking care of things for you guys.
I think that is totally fair. I mean really for the amount of work being put in, running a website and all the other costs its a very marginal amount. Just next time, might be better to state $25 entry fee + $10 operating cost so that there’s no mix up for the people who might take it the wrong way.
I’m curious, are those videos going to be kept under wraps till the end of the season or will they be public (as in whenever you guys get the chance to upload them).
Jeff is working diligently in getting the videos up, and kriangkrai has volunteered to try to fix the audio for the commentary. The quality of the videos got messed up when we were uploading today, but we are still at it. Also Mac has some pretty sweet ideas too. The people stepping up to help out on production and what not is greatly appreciated.
i’m uploading first match videos right now. i had some technical difficulties with my program and encoding the videos. they all turned out to be crap for some reason and I JUST FINALLY figured it out, after like the whole day of messing around with it. my goal is to get at least one match up starting with 1 tonight.
Yo Frank, you were talking to Brent on saturday night about putting up fliers to get the word out about Tournament Wars and try to bring in some new faces. I was wondering if you wanted me to throw some fliers up around here in Olympia.
I’m not sure there are many players around here, but there just might be someone good and willing to drive up to Seattle on Saturdays.
