Touhou Hisouten ~Scarlet Weather Rhapsody~ (sequel to Immaterial and Missing Power?)

Probably so but if not then we’ll just have to wait for an update where it will allow you to turn it off if you wanted.

Ok. I just played it. I like it, and at the same time I don’t. The weather effects are stupid as shit. If you could set them the same way that you can the items in Brawl, then it would be better (this would add the option of none). I like and dislike the deck system. I would like it much better if bombs were not a part of the deck, but done the same way as they were in IAMP. Other than that…I think that it is cool that you can set up for different types of move power-ups. Umm…that’s really it. Not too much play yet. What’s the IRC?

EFZ took hella time to fix - four major revisions where there would be multiple changes to the engine, physics, character roster and moveset of existing characters is not something that comes out quickly. And still, none of these major revisions was as drastic Tohou Hisouten, which is a completely different beast than IaMP.

BTW, your Misaki tutorial is in Nico video.

Very bad comparison. I know you never were a fan of EFZ, but using an analogy that implies that nobody plays EFZ (anymore) because its a bad game is pretty unfair. If anything, the analogy applies to something like BBB. EFZ had tournaments for every single version year after year, so its not a CFJ-like situation where the game disappeared as soon as the first (and only) major Japanese tournament ended. You can still see replays of competitive games as recent as this year, including tournaments.

Why EFZ is not as popular as IaMP, there are many different factors, a lot of them not game related. Tohou becoming an internet phenomenon has a lot to do, especially overseas. It also has a lot to do with how the community of each game evolved, for better or worse*. We also can’t ignore that EFZ is a lot older, and that Tasofro effectively ended EFZ’s development with IaMP (nobody expected Memorial). EFZ is very Alpha 3 in the sense that its not a major game anymore, but it was in the past (relatively speaking - back then it was pretty much EFZ and MB), and arguably helped to put a foundation of what would be the community in later years (again, together with MB).

Back to the main topic, I can understand why they would like to make Tohou Hisouten a game more accessible to the fan community, but I find it extremely worrying that they are doing it at the cost of the game’s potential as a competitive game. I never learned IaMP, but I was able to appreciate the fact that Tasofro, similarly with EFZ, managed to make a game that was not only a deep dish of fanservice, but also a fun game with a unique system (moreso with IaMP) that had good potential for competitive play. It looks to me that to attract the Tohou fanbase Tasofro might end up alienating the competitive players, and thats dangerous. In the long term, the fanboys will move on to the next meme, and it will be the people interested in competitive play that will carry the game (I believe this is strongly related to EFZ’s downfall overseas, see *).

Looking back almost a year later, I realized that the vid needs so many patching jobs, it’s not even funny. I have to get my pos vista laptop soon to be able to do any kind of capturing/editing job or else I won’t be able to do any EFZ videos. Well anyway did you upload teh vid? If you did, thank you. I have no niconico account, so I never knew.

Also, I was trying to give the group of guys who made the game a bit more credit, tasogare dudes are obviously fans of samsho, kof, marvel and sf as shown by numerous references in their games, you know, fans like yall and me. With no one else’s help they came to make tons of great games, that team wasn’t like the BBB dudes who can’t get shit straight. My curse as low tier player stops me from arguing why game X has a good potential, at least not against you guys who play better than I irl matches, but damned if I didn’t ask you guys to hang on. Cuz, well, it fucking sucks when yall get me into one game and then leave for like the third time.

I raged a bit, but honestly, it all goes back to the ol love/hate relationship with cali players. They introduced me to a game and then later, when I finally started to understand it, they all left the game. I think, despite knowing that I’ll look like a total douche, I want the game to get recognition again, so that the plus or minus 15 guys who played EFZ will not matter any more when it comes to competition. I think that’s what I want to do.

more playing time and discussion has basically made the entirety of the swr irc chan come to three solid conclusions, despite our differences:

  1. yuyuko stage (all white snow level) is not playable due to it making all bullets nearly invisible
  2. no-melee weather is retarded
  3. no-block weather is retarded

even the players who love swr agree on these and i don’t think it’s really possible to argue in favor of these things. we’re also fairly sure that future patches will introduce a no-weather toggle that will probably be the standard for versus matches, because honestly, that shit is just annoying, and there’s too many effects that are just stupid, such as weather that:

  1. hides all spellcards
  2. pulls opponents away from each other (lol so much for zoning)
  3. drains level from your bar and will kill your spellcard if you have no level left to drain
  4. makes border escape free and halves flying cost
  5. causes instant guard crush for any wrongblocked move

everything in swr seems dumbed down from iamp, the pressure is less severe, the consequences of being gc’d are less severe, and the mixup is less complex. there are permutations there just like iamp but it’s too easy to get out for free using hj8 and not nearly as many ways to punish it. also, wakeup graze which previously required either a buffer input or a 1f timing is now automatic, meaning bullet meaty attacks are useless

I found it by accident while looking for the trailer of an incoming EFZ tournament in Japan. It was uploaded in July last year.

I have a similar feeling. I feel that EFZ had the misfortune to go thru certain events that killed its chances to get a chance to be tested as a competitive game. I don’t want to develop in here since this is a Tohou thread.

writing personal attacks only means you are angry and don’t have a good counter-argument on the subject of discussion.

and i sure hope you don’t play the same way vs zappa whenever he has ghosts or dog or raoh cuz that’s pretty suicidal :wgrin:

and any more “proof” that the game isn’t competitive besides “i played it a few days and you didn’t so shut up!” and “other people who played it says it sucks too!” ?

Yeah I suppose it looks like it implies that EFZ is a bad game, but that wasn’t my intention since I know it isn’t really bad.

But you’re right that BBB is a better analogy though since both apply anyway.

writing personal attacks about someone who wants sbx for evo means i see the comedy and irony in the situation. i’m not even angry at all, i just think it’s utterly hilarious

also way to not address the point xenozip brought up

as far as competitive play goes it can be possible if the really stupid shit was turned off, with “really stupid shit” being the three main things i just mentioned in a post one above yours. there is no way anyone is going to play this game seriously when you’re in the middle of rushing someone down and the weather shuts your melee attacks off (which has happened multiple times, so it’s not just speculation)

also as far as being able to speak on whether a game is playable or not i think actually playing it and having significant knowledge of its predecessor does qualify me to have a valid opinion

you know, instead of not playing it and posting opinions based on speculation

BBB would be a fair analogy if the team that made it wasn’t having internal squabbling the whole time. Tasofro seems to be stable, whereas NRF split due to internal shit, which is why BBB ended up sucking.

I thought about it, and I bet that Tasfro released the game without a “No Weather” option on purpose. That way everyone would have to play the game with weather (a system they put hard work in creating) at first. They will probably give a patch later that will allow “No Weather.” In my opinion, they just wanted people to give their system a chance.

typhoon (no-block hyperarmor) weather is awesome

more wrongblock idiocy. risk/reward ratios in this game are fucked up. read the description for details

This game confuses the fuck out of me.

bellreisa you are The Shit

I started a youtube playlist for swr-full videos that I post: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D1454A858FDE70E5

I’m not going to bother linklogging anymore, so just subscribe or something.

Although I randomly took a glance at nicodouga and saw this Reisen video http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3467754

Some one’s found a way to hack the weather out of the game.

It’ll do until Tasofro probably releases something officially, for those who want to turn off the Weather Channel now.

Both players have to have this hack in play, in order to avoid de-synching.

So…when you NOP it; is it supposed to NOP 45AC43 through 45AC48? Because it did that automatically when I tried.

That’s what I’m led to believe. I can’t test it myself yet, though, cuz I’m supposed to be working. ^^;

In any case, keep a back-up of the original EXE, just in case, though.

Ok. That’s probably right then. When I ran the new .exe it worked fine, and no weather. I just wanted to make sure that NOPing all of that wasn’t going to make more issues.
