Touhou Hisouten ~Scarlet Weather Rhapsody~ (sequel to Immaterial and Missing Power?)

Off topic but anyone have any match videos with peach girl? I’m kind of clueless on how she’s supposed to be played, thanks!

That’s not really off topic at all.

Check this link http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D1454A858FDE70E5&page=3

I’ll be uploading 6 videos of her, or trying to upload them anyway. Right now only 2 are live though.

random netplay matches

i had a blockstring vid here but removed it, see post below

For Reimu i was looking at the following corner blockstring;

2A 6A 5B 236B IAD j.2A j.2B

If they wrongblock either the 2A or 6A it pushes you to a distance where the 236B becomes airtight with the 5B, though it’s really difficult to time and space it properly (may be easier midscreen? need to varify).

However the IAD j.2A connects very quickly after the 236B blockstun ends, they probably can only escape it with a reversal move.

Then j.2A j.2B is airtight again. They can’t crouch or dash under the j.2A and if they chicken block they will take just as much spirit damage and be pinned on the wall for you to air-GC them.

She might have better/different options with alt.skill cards but that’s what I could find with the default skillset. Some random notations on deadend leads: spaced 5b 236b j.C has a gap that I think is like 1 or 2 frames, sadface, it’d prolly suki if it were iamp. Also 3a 236b is not airtight on correct or wrongblock even spaced so that’s definitely a deadend unless you use it for surprise factor or something.

Thanks a lot for the videos! It seems like either she has great pressure, or it’s just Alice.

I made a video of the blockstring with added 236B. Turns out 236B HJC9 j2B is not airtight but it will incur enough fear to hopefully make them use HJ8 more, which you then beat with tk j6A. lol?

Are you sure? I wasn’t able to make it airtight, maybe it’s j.B and not j.2B?

Edit:

I verified 236b j.2b/j.2C are not airtight.

Also wrongblocked 2A 6A 5B midscreen is not airtight. Wrongblock 6A 5B midscreen is airtight only if done completely point blank or in the corner.

2B is airtight off a wrongblock or correct block 6A, but it doesn’t seem like she can do anything after the 2B while midscreen, best I could think of is just 421B, lol, which might not be such a bad idea since that move is bullshit in general.

Once again it really feels like she needs her alt.skill cards to do anything consistent.

consistency is the last thing you’ll find in SWR

Other than it being consistently LAWL?

I do think so!

First post on the Shoryuken forums for me, so here goes.

Aside from the aforementioned issues we’ve all had with the weather (I know as much as you do that it all sucks), my only real problem with this game is the roster, or rather the playstyle that most of the characters seem to go with.

IMO, aside from the “original demo four,” Remi, Yukari, and the two bosses, most of the characters seem poorly implemented/altered. Many seem to follow the pattern of “crap-ass melee power, yet somewhat improved projectile spread,” and most of those seem to emphasize turtling. A good example of this would be Komachi (scythe girl) with her wide-range melee attacks and projectile-blocking spirit walls. (And maybe it’s just me, but Reisen is terrible. I’m pretty sure she’s filled the role of “joke character” a la China in IaMP.)

And at that, not too many people seem to be terribly effective against the characters I mentioned above. Reimu, Marisa, Alice, Aya, Remilia, Yukari (only to a point because of her good air/air-corner game), and the two bosses seem to be the go-to characters of this game.

Thoughts/questions?

It’s because the game is still new, we haven’t had much time to develop the non-demo characters as apposed to how long we had to develop the demo ones.

However, first of all, if Tasofro follows their patching history the way they did with IaMP, then SWR’s future patches are likely to modify a lot of the special move properties and framedata in order to balance out the characters. I suspect they will vastly change Reisen and probably do some tweaks to Marisa and Komachi.

So worrying about character balance is pretty much obsolete at this point for us. The real issue is the system mechanics.

That said, I disagree. About the only really nad characters right now are Marisa and Reisen. While Komachi is kind of bad on surface level, she can still rock the house if you use her correctly.

Yuyuko is ridiculously good, Sakuya and Youmu are no joke when you learn their combos and pressure strings, Suika and Yukari are solid and do lots of damage off random hits, and Remilia is Remilia. The only character I really wonder about is Patchouli.

And yeah I have a question for you: Who are you? Do you play with the better players in the #swr channel on mizuumi? If you don’t then I have to wonder if your knowledge of the gameflow and character strengths/weaknesses are really as informed as it could be.

To answer your last question: I haven’t shown up on netplay yet, as I’ve been grinding out unlocks in Story/Arcade mode to test those before I get on IRC/netplay. I play Aya and Remilia as of now, looking to seriously try out Yuyuko before too long. So my knowledge of gameplay mechanics are based off of repeatedly smacking down computers and fighting with the annoyingly unpredictable weather (and from watching YouTube vids, of course).

That said, once I actually unlock a substantial amount of stuff, I intend to start netplaying.

EDIT: [off-topic] Am I mistaken, or is your avatar from C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa?

Marisa is bad? Time to learn Sakuya, I guess. :frowning:

If you get tired of manually unlocking everything there’s a full-unlock datfile on the wiki.

You are mistaken. It’s a 1960’s looney tunes.

Yeah, Marisa doesn’t have much going for her in this version. They even toned down her sparks from the DEMO where they were already pretty bad.

What Xeno said. AFAIK her sparks are shorter, not as strong, and grazeable. No mucking up everyone’s game a la IaMP.

Also, regarding the wiki: Hadn’t seen that since the demo; glad to see it up and running.

Yeah the swr wiki is up, and pretty filled out with most of what anyone would need to get started.

So I was messing around with Sakuya, and it seems like she’s a high speed character that greatly focuses on okizeme not unlike Millia from GGXX series or VAkiha from MB series. Would you guys say that’s an accurate summary of her play style? Are there any vids of her out yet?

I’m not really pleased with her damage output, but I suppose her okizeme is supposed to make up for it.

Glad you asked!

Yes, you can see some fooligar footage here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D1454A858FDE70E5&page=5
The first one the list should be

Also I made a dinky little timestop video (incomplete) here:

Doesn’t seem like Timestop is that useful, other than to do some cool little things here and there. Unfortunately I’m not really sure what kind of super cards to use; none of them do much or any more damage than her bread and butters… but I guess they can be useful when BnBs may not be possible.

Sakuya…
If I recall rightly from my story runs, Sakuya’s “Soul Sculpture” can entirely whiff in this game. Am I right on that, or do I just suck?
