Touhou Hisouten ~Scarlet Weather Rhapsody~ (sequel to Immaterial and Missing Power?)

We’re not snubbing it because it’s not iamp, we’re snubbing it because it has stupid design decisions. “you just don’t like this game because it’s not [predecessor game]” is a weak argument given that there’s been more than enough problems pointed out with the gameplay. Do you even play the demo?

Yes I have. I played both demos, and liked them well enough for what they were.

And like I said before, the bottom line seems to be that Tasofro and ZUN wanted a game that was geared more towards the interests of actual Touhou fans. The same people who love the “mainstream” shooters, read yuri doujins starring Marisa and Alice, obsess over the “official” source material, and play other Touhou doujin games like Touhou Soccer and MegaMari. That is who this game is seemingly for, and everything becomes a much easier pill to swallow when that fact is recognized, and you just go with the notion that “it is what it is”. And what it is, is not going to be a traditional/competitive FG, by any stretch of the imagination. If they really wanted to change things around, they would have done so during the stretch of time that was present between the last demo and this one, or they just would have scrapped the game entirely and start over. Clearly, that was not the case.

So, again, I’m just saying, it is what it is, and I, and I’m sure others, will be able to appreciate the game as a “Danmaku Versus Fighter” horse of a different color. If you don’t wish to see it the same way, then again, it is what it is. I’m not going to be butt-hurt one way or the other…

Of course I understand it’s a different game, that’s been what I’ve been saying. SWR may end up like Higurashi Daybreak, more of a party game and less of a real fighter. That point is what has been disappointing a lot of us.

Pretty much all the former SWR supporters we pulled in have been converted to IaMP for the aforementioned reasons. We’re still going to play the game but it’s not going to be worth playing seriously unless some sweeping changes are made.

Ok! And it’s a really boring game that rewards scrub-level play too much, making it also aggravating when you aren’t a scrub.

As a sequel to IaMP I have reason to support it because I’m a fan of IaMP. As it’s own game that’s disassociated from IaMP I have zero reason to support it because it’s trashy and unfun. So yeah I’m critical of it because I expect it to give me reason to play it instead of basically any other game right now, since almost all of them are better options at the moment.

I’m sick of hearing that. Fortunately I only have to hear it for another day, huh? :V

Weather, spellcard decks, and flight is in every screen shot and blog post on tasofro, it’s not getting changed or removed for full. These are stupid functionalities that make the game unfun. Weather and spelldecks are also really random, and I personally feel very strongly that random elements were not meant for serious tournament-level play.

All that changed from the IaMP 1.0 to 1.11 was character specific tweaks, they did not change any of the core system mechanics at all. So no, I really don’t think tasofro will change any of the (problematic) core system mechanics in SWR either, or change the other (problematic) core mechanics like how spirit orbs, wallslams, or wrong-block work.

I’m not comparing the game to IaMP though, I’m saying I’d rather play a good game like IaMP than a game that I do not enjoy. And as it stands now SWR isn’t giving me reasons to like it, it’s giving me tons of reasons to hate it.

And again I’m sick of hearing all this “well, let’s hope…” garbage. Yeah hope all you want, whatever. I’ll continue to play it until I can’t fucking take it anymore, and I’ll also continue to voice my opinions about what I find, whether they are good or bad things that I find. And later when people stop playing because no one is having fun with it, I won’t be the one wondering what happened or where everyone went.

If they fixed EFZ through three major expansions, I’m sure they can fix Touhou.

Now, what gave you that notion, that I thought things of that nature were going to be altered or whatever?

I’m merely thinking about it from the stand-point that we’ll know everything, or close enough to it, by tomorrow. After all, the demos being what they are, they’re incomplete, and don’t fully represent what the full scope of the game contains. That’s what I’m personally looking forward to seeing, how all of this comes together.

Like I said above, as far as me and this game are concerned, it is what it is, and I’m willing to accept it for what it is going to be: a fanservice-laced Danmaku Vs. game that’s more concerned with appealing to the wantons of the overall Touhou bunch, as opposed to the IaMP stalwarts.

If it can still manage to be a good game on its own merits (not that of comparing it to IaMP, which you’re still doing any way, whether you consciously admit or not), then that’s fine. Tasofro’s accomplished what they wanted for the game, and that’s good enough.

As I already said above, I ain’t about to get all butt hurt one way or the other. This game is very likely going to be a “party” fighter, rather than a competitive one; and the sooner we all get to understanding that, the more “content” we all probably will be.

EDIT: SPOILER APPROACHES. COMMAND?

^ Shots of the Final Boss (she’s a dragon lady of some sort)

Wow, that’s a really small roster. Did they actually REMOVE Hong?

Only character that’s missing at the moment is China/Mei Ling.

Most pundits are of the opinion that there still may be 4 more characters left to be seen, going by how the demo hackers found data for up to 20 characters. So, either these extras are going to be unlocked by a funky “Unlock Gouki/Akuma” type of thing on the character screen, some other means of working through the game (All Lunatic Clear, perhaps?), or a future patch.

^ And it could be feasible, if they went like in that photoshop’d picture, and just moved everyone up to accommodate…if we’re lucky.

So, what are the names of the the two new characters who AREN’T Reisen, Komachi, or Aya?

Iku=Nagae is the name of the first of the new girls (one dressed up all frilly like a Flamenco Dancer) here:

Dragon Peach girl (as seen above) is still unknown at the moment.

Yeah, that picture doesn’t want to load for me. In fact, I haven’t been able to access anything on that site all day.

Yeah…this is what happens during “peak Touhou” times like Reitaisai and the like.

Any way, you can always try Shrinemaiden’s forums too. Much faster to load, and they get the goods as well.

EDIT:
Sub-Boss’s name: Iku Nagae (???)
Boss’s name: Tenko Hinanai (???)

…Also, the game’s out and about…if you know what I mean.

I’ll try and be a good boy and wait for my official copy to come in the mail. Still…

I like how every story mode spellcard in this game emphasizes that you need to use 8d

Yeah, well, it’s the next day and I have it and played it.

And I think I can safely say it got much worse as a potentially competitive fighting game, not better. Meaning it’s definitely more of a goofy casual game than a serious game.

The new weather types make it impossible for me to take seriously at all. A weather that disables all melee attacks (despite the fact that wavedashing is a constant graze state), a weather that gives super armor (and disables the ability to BLOCK), and a weather that causes vampirism. Among other things that make no sense.

But here’s the thing, this is all new crap that they added. And guess what, it didn’t fix the crap that I felt was wrong with it in the first place, big surprise!

I can’t imagine how any of you thought that adding shit was going to fix preexisting problems, which had nothing to do with the size of the roster…

But I guess people want to believe that the JP players will complain about it enough that the game gets fixed. Well don’t get your hopes up, the system mechanics aren’t likely to get changed since they sure as hell weren’t in IaMP (only character balance changed, not gameflow or mechanics at all).

Yeah? And nobody plays EFZ, but tons of people play IaMP. I hope you can see my point.

Fixed

actually it sounds like something new and refreshing i would really like to try.
i have yet to see how this randomness ruins the game…
if you can change your play style according to the random summon zappa gets, you can deal with random cards and conditions.

point is, it’s better to give the game a fair shot rather than declaring “it sucks” on day 1 or even month 1 and not even try to step your game up.

maybe when you’ll find out what to do vs every random shit thrown at you, the randomness won’t ruin the game but instead will make it more fun and unique.

zappa’s randomness = 1 character

i am not sure how anyone can justify a random event shutting off half of your moveset or turning off your ability to block being an interesting or worthwhile game mechanic

Didn’t you say there was a stage that disabled weather, though?

speculation, so far there’s no way to do it at all. it would make sense since remi’s mansion is sort of indoors and all, but nobody’s mentioned it

EDIT: confirmed with someone, weather affects remi’s stage. she has a sky roof or some bullshit, lol. even better, you don’t see the effects on that stage so you need to know the japanese so see what weather it is.

this will workkkkkkkkk

For a competitive game? Certainly not.

For a casual/party game, which this game is MEANT to be? Why not?

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it a hundred-fold more if I gotta…this is not IaMP’s sequel. It may some what look like it on the surface, due to shared graphics and characters, but it’s really not. It is what it is, and it’s a Touhou Danmaku Party Fighter.

Ah well…as people have alluded to on several other forums, this IS indeed Smash Bros. Brawl all over again. Right down to the main detractor camps boiling down to either people getting butt hurt over characters they wanted to see not getting in, and the loyalists from the previous game disowning the new game because the new direction doesn’t personally suit them.

This new game being what it is, doesn’t have to detract from IaMP in the least, any more than future Soul Calibur games have to detract from Soul Calibur 1 (seen still as the best game in the series for competitive play). Let the Touhou kids have their game, and you can keep playing IaMP. That’s all there is to it, really.
