Touhou Hisouten ~Scarlet Weather Rhapsody~ (sequel to Immaterial and Missing Power?)

I really wish Eirin would be put into the game, but it’s not likely they’d put her in. ;(

For now I’ll just have to settle for Marisa.

so i heard you like patchy

translation tools say that patch’s weather locks melee out while it’s in effect

lol? hope it’s a mistranslation

Looks like this really IS going to be a Scarlet Weather Channel, if everybody in this game is going to have their own distinctive weather pattern that can cause random crap like this.

Any way…I’m looking forward to this game. Both Patchy and Youmu look fun to play from this outset…yay for Youmu actually using BOTH of her swords this time, it looks like…

It’s probably just her spellcard that uses both swords at the same time.

Also, the blog was kind of wordy in regards to what it said about the weather, in the sense that they were trying to be very vague. It basically boiled down to the blog saying it wasn’t going to be specific about anything until the day of the release.

But considering how close it is to release date, I’m going to have to go with the “fuck speculation it’s only a few more days” approach.

congratulations, you are now rewarded for blocking the wrong way in swr

That’s fucking hilarious. I hope someone’s shown this shit to Tasofro or whatever they fuck they’re called, or else this game is automatically shit tier.

If you really want them to know about it, tell 'em yourself here:

Just post the link to the youtube vid and click submit (the left button). The option heading is already selected for “Touhou Hisouten”, so you don’t need to do anything else. If they really care enough about making sure the quality of their product is insured, they should get the hint.

…Or at least be able to have that as the first item for bids when they’ll eventually patch it for the first time in a few weeks.

Someone also found this which supposedly confirms Sukia, Komachi and Reisen:

third image is potentially an old promotional flyer for swr and does not confirm anyone until tasofro posts it

they’re most likely in there but no need to jump the gun

this also doesn’t take away from the fact that swr is sort of bad right now and needs a shit ton of patching to get it to something playable, and if remi’s stage is akin to final destination in that no weather will be allowed, the game will lose more credibility as a valid competitive game

Agreed.

Er, what? I’m not really sure as to what you’re trying to say here.

there’s many parallels between swr and smash right now, having a no-weather stage would be the swr equivalent of final destination

I’m not sure how that’s a bad thing, though.

to avoid opening that entire can of worms of whether you consider Smash a fighter or not, let’s just go with “I don’t feel Smash was designed to be a competitive game so much as a party game”. the design choices in Melee emphasize this.

thus far, many design choices in SWR emphasize this too. wrongblock rewarding the player instead of penalizing them like it did in IaMP. flight being an easy and dominant way to escape midrange zoning, effectively destroying the carefully-designed system of mixup in IaMP. border escape to quickly and effectively deal with any corner pressure that does begin, allowing players to not have to handle actual pressure. weakened melee system that dilutes mixup. randomized in-game systems which, unlike Smash, cannot be switched off. increasingly chaotic weather effects that are potentially destructive to the game’s flow (Wind allows melee attacks to be HJCed, and there have been some mentions of Patchouli and Yuyuko’s weather allowing even crazier shit like locking away melee altogether, though that’s been a rumor based off of awkward translation thus far).

swr is far more beginner friendly in that it’s easier to push buttons and see results, but the competitive nature of the game seems to have been hurt by all the subsystems they’re putting in it. this seems very odd for me given that tasofro fighting games (EFZ, IaMP) have typically been extremely technical and relatively barebones in terms of engine subsystems; why they are adding all this gimmicky shit in swr is beyond me but they have to be aware of the impact that it’s making upon the gameplay.

Maybe I’m just the scrub-because I do suck at the game-but having the spirit bar drained looks big enough trade for me. I don’t see comparison to smash brothers as needed.

tl; dr = imo swr should not be sequel to iamp, it should be its own game.

What’s more or less looking to be the case is that they wanted a game that more Touhou fans would be open to playing.

IaMP was a good game, but good luck getting the majority of the TH fanbase (the ones that primarily only play the shooters and read doujin about the series) to play it. They got scared off because the systems and gameplay in that title were too ominous for their liking, and it was mainly a thing that only real FG players played the game.

Now with SWR, it looks to be a poignant attempt to break down that “wall”, even if it comes at the expense of “Power Stone-ing” the central gameplay in a number of ways.

I still have every belief that this game will be a fun game, but you’ll probably have to come at it with the notion that it IS a different beast compared to what you may expect…not unlike how we had to for IaMP years ago.

To me, all they would have to do is make amends for all of us to be able to play the game as we wish (having the option to turn weather off/on), and that would do more to quiet a number of these concerns, I would think.

How has the Japanese side looked at this game, I wonder?

EDIT: Komachi, Suika, Yukari and Reisen confirmed.

http://www.tasofro.net/ Right there on the front page, plus in the character profiles.

Well, you know…

http://www.tasofro.net/touhou105/image/f09.jpg

weather is actually the least of the problems with swr. random spellcard decks and flight rendering midrange worthless are not things you can switch on and off.

Well in any case, we’ll find out the final score is about in 24 hours or less.

But again, the basic thing that I’ve deduced from even the first demo was that this was NOT going to be IaMP 2. I still think it’s going to be a fun game, even if the greater part of the old IaMP crew may do a lot to snub the new game because they don’t like the new things about the gameplay.

Hell, in that light, maybe this IS indeed Smash Bros. we’re talking about here…
