^ Did you try installing the latest version of Direct X? I had the same error saying that d3dx9_33.dll was not found at first, but I managed to get the game running after downloading the latest version of Direct X from the Microsoft website.
And nope, there’s no more distance sensitive attacks in SWR.
5A is the only distance sensitive move in the game, which becomes a far-A melee or close-A melee depending on your distance from the opponent, like a Capcom Fighter or whatever.
Anyhow, video link time.
This is Day-1 stuff here guys, so don’t expect to be wowed by elite-playing or anything.

Don’t freak out or anything. Lolly and Nano have accidentally selected the broken shrine stage in this version of the demo, so it wasn’t removed completely, we just don’t know how to pick it now.
Also, we’ve seen screenshots for what looks like Aya’s new stage (an alternate version of the waterfall stage) here. And yeah those are Aya’s nero-like crows.
So we’re likely to see the old demo stages return, plus some new ones, on top of the IaMP stages.
I have to say though, unfortunately I seem to have a case of virtua fighter here. This game is too much taxing for me. I can’t find ways to dodge super versions of bullets, and I just can’t find good instances for spell card activations. The game’s just too damn different, but that’s actually probably a good thing for the scene though nowadays. It just sucks realizing these guys would probably never go back to old EFZ style which was tremendously more enjoyable for me. I’m sticking with Reimu, I’ll try to find what I can with her.
Don’t worry about it. I’m just venting because tasogare is making pretty much IaMP sequel and not so much EFZ sequel. SWR is pretty hard to grasp for me, like vf, is what I’m saying.
Also, now I can say, after spending more time with the game, that I do indeed miss the “EX/Alt Special” move cards from the previous demo. I hope that they’ll put them back in the game, but just make them not part of the default decks, for the sake of high-level play.
Everything is pretty much gravy. I’ve already made a reserve through square-plus.net to insure my copy.
If the link didn’t tell you enough, Sakuya’s back. And from the looks of it, she picked up another one of Dio’s tricks. Counter-super/special, perhaps? When is she going to drop SteamRollers, and be done with it?
On another note, I suppose now’s as good a time as any to bump up this topic. Official release is slated to less than a week from now, after all…
…Really hope that Marisa gets that “FINAL Psycho Crusher” Spell Card back in the full version release. That was probably one of her best Supers, and they took it out for the recent demo.
Why they got rid of that, and yet kept that weird Final Spark that shoots upward at a 30% angle, is beyond me.
EDIT: More info on this update, courtesy of the Touhou image board.
Sakuya also has her own weather pattern, “Cloudy”. This pattern supposedly allows one who takes advantage of it to “use spell cards more effectively”. No other clarification is given, but signs point to possibly reducing Spell Card cost.
Tasofro will be also releasing new character updates from this point forward until Reitaisai. “Touhou Dojo” updates, any one?
For SWR, the first place to go is the wiki since it is written like a FAQ. The game isn’t even out yet so there’s no really heavily constructed guides for it other than what’s been transcribed on the wiki regarding the DEMO of the game: http://swr.mizuumi.net/
That should cover most of the basic stuff you’d find in a FAQ or game’s manual. But just keep in mind that in 5 or 6 days a lot of it will have to be rewritten when the FULL game is released.
There is a newb tutorial for IaMP though which is the prequel game to SWR:

But umm, apart from grazing through bullets and using melee->bullet chains, the games don’t really play similarly IMO. A lot of the fundamental rules and tactics and concepts of IaMP are thrown out the window in SWR.
Her weather is azure sky (or whatever color synonymous with blue), whatever that is. Can’t be rain, clear sky, or sunny sky though, so… uh… I dunno wtf it is.
