Beatsstayflowin: You’re misunderstanding my position. I appreciate the intent, but if I’m going on IRC, it’s not because somebody in this thread told me I am wrong and need to get an explanation from somebody else. It’s principle, really.
I never claimed to know more about the game than anyone else, so sure- I stand a good chance of being wrong on some things. But if someone wants to call me out, they should at least do so to my face and explain why. I’ll be happy to at least be shown that kind of common courtesy.
The people who know you are wrong are too lazy to make a forum post about it. My whole position is not whether you’re right or wrong but that you seem to want to rely on the forum as a medium of discussion when the brunt of the English-speaking community that has any modicum of skill rests on IRC. You’re handicapping yourself, and your adherence to your “principle” will hold you back from stepping your game up.
This wasn’t meant to become anything more than a one-post tangent, so let me clarify then let’s get back to actually talking about the game.
Bellreisa, the only principle I’m following is that I don’t like to be patronized. If people know or care enough to post anything in this thread about what I am telling people, then they should speak up about it like you, Mauve and Xenozip have been doing. Contribution! Snotty asides like in Mizuki’s post are the kind of crap I don’t care for.
It has nothing to do with whether or not I want to improve my game or whether or not I want to sign on IRC. It’s just common courtesy. The IRC thing was mentioned at all because I don’t want that blanket response when I ask why I’m wrong.
I’m just saying.
Anyway, is it just me or is Sakuya a bit low on the damage side? I don’t know why, but I often find myself falling behind in the damage game even if I’ve not been hit very often. Either way, I’ve been finding wonderful uses for that teleport of hers and think it’s actually better than her counter.
The annoying thing about the counterattack is that once people realize I have it they start trying to bait and punish it. I guess that’s just a matter of mixing it up, though. I still have a lot to learn with her.
Telling you to go on irc to ask questions is not a blanket response. There is no netplay scene here, so telling you to go ask the people who regularly play the game sounds about right.
I was hoping it would be more obvious that the difference between ‘You should ask the people on IRC about that, they’d know better.’ and ‘You are spreading misinformed crap. I can’t/won’t explain why. Go on IRC and find out.’ is that one is rude and patronizing.
Again, to cover my tracks here- this is not referring to Bellreisa’s post.
Can we drop this subject now or is it going to be an ongoing thing?

I’m curious, where do you find people to play?
Mostly my friends; Youmu, Komachi, Reisen, Aya and Yukari mainers. When I found out that people played it on the IRC channel I signed on it a few times and had a lot of fun, but then came HD Remix and Soul Calibur IV.
I’ve actually been meaning to sign on the IRC again and get back in gear because I need to play a wider variety of opponents.
I don’t know about her damage output, but I do know that I’ve been trapped in her blockstring before. I don’t think I successfully broke out without a counter card. From what I remember, blocking a knife = me eating damage unless I BE at the right time.
I played another Sakuya that didn’t do anyblock strings and tried to stay away and toss knives. It was pretty odd, but my Alice didn’t lose many matches to her.
My main problem with Sakuya’s teleport is that it takes her safely out of my C doll’s range. I don’t know if Alice gets a free 6A on her if I expect it.
I don’t see a blockstring on the wiki and from what you’re saying it sounds like it could be very effective to know. I’ll have to ask about it later for sure.
Yeah, nobody I fought had a hard time getting around her knives unless I was really creative with them. Trying to outdo Alice from a distance also seems like a bad idea.
As far as I know, there’s no way to distinguish the two variations of her teleport except by distance. It just seems like such a more effective skill overall than her counterattack skill because it’s harder to punish when you use it right. I suppose it’s more of a matter of just not being predictable with the counter though.
Did they use many spell cards against you?
Probably. The better my opponent is, the less aware I am of spellcards.

You’ll want to get a Nico Nico Douga account and search for ‘???’. Google up a tutorial to sign up for it, it’s pretty painless.
Add the search terms ‘ph’, ‘phantasm’, or ‘irc’ for somewhat higher leveled matches. There’s no guarantee of great play here but you’re at least guaranteed that they’re not newbies. (This set is pretty nice, if just for the Yuyuko player.)
How do I get these replays to actually play? I put them into the replay folder but when I click on them through the games replay menu nothing happens.
There’s two sets of replays in the archive. For 1.06, the replays with filenames like A01.rep, B05.rep, etc are the ones you click on to play. Any that are darkened are recorded for a different version of SWR, unless there is another such case I’m missing.
Are the 7 links 7 different tournaments? Which one is the most recent? The top link?
