Touhou Hisou Tensoku - Scarlet Weather Rhapsody Expansion

It gives me a way to kill time while I wait for TvC to arrive in the US. I’m playing old games right now too. FF3, Chrono Trigger…all those old stuff I’ve never had a chance to play. This game came out and I liked SWR so why not? I enjoy collecting stuff and so I have no problems grinding in arcade mode.

Friend of mine is learning China and I have to say, China has got to be Patchouli’s new worst matchup. Not only is it incredibly difficult to get China away, those giant blue fireballs of hers just consume effortlessly anything Patchouli throws out BUT her 236. Thank God for Jellyfish Princess. That spell card just owns ridiculously hard.

On another random note, a number of Marisa’s specials appear to upgrade like crap. I’m also sad at what they did to her Grand Stardust special. It’s now completely useless in the air @_@.

Has anyone ripped the new audio tracks from the expansion, and while we’re at it, anyone have the original SWR OST? That Reisen vs Suwako match had a kickass bgm. XD

I did read the Wiki. They didn’t mention the icons in there at all. Anyway thanks for the info.

^ The wiki explains what each card does pretty clearly. Unless you’re meaning something else by icons, I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

In the lower right hand corner of some of the cards…looks to be just the Super Cards there is a littlle green ball thing or a blue one or what looks like an orange one. I was just wondering what the colored little balls meant.

Now I see what you’re talking about. It’s funny, I never really noticed them before.

They appear to relate to the card cost of the skill. Dark Blue is 1 cost, Bluish Green is 2 cost, Green is 3 cost, Brown is 4 cost, Red is 5 cost. This seems to be the consistent theme across character pages.

What do you think of the game itself so far?

Oh btw, I found another worrysome glitch while playing Utsuho in arcade mode.

It was on Cirno’s stage. I did her default 236 special and the beam would sweep the ground, but no explosions occurred. After that, I jumped into the air and tried to do it again, and Utsuho froze in the air and couldn’t be hit (I couldn’t do anything either)

That’s got potential to be very problematic if it happens randomly in a match.

Ah ok thanks. Thats kind of neat.

I really like the game so far but I haven’t really been able to play it properly yet. playing on a keyboard is out of the question as it just irritates my carpel tunnel much faster then any other control system does so I used my PS2>USB converter but the game only registers the analogue sticks and that’s been really hard to use as well. I downloaded Joy2Key but I cant figure out how to get it to work hahaha so as of now I’ve just been poking around with the game but so far I really like it.

What I really like about it is thats it’s rather easy to execute and even pull off combos (I comboed on a Keyboard…I’ve never done that before) so the skill seems to be in creating openings and capitalizing on mistakes an such. I’d really like to get into it. It fels like the kind of game I can use to wind down from the intensity of playing HDR. I’m pretty interested in playing it.

Request translation on this.Look like it is about v1.02 patch.
Taken from offical Tasofro blog:

Through unreliable third party online translator sites:

It’s pretty much entirely talking about bug fixes.
Tasofro’s looking into the replay bug, some kind of crash bug in arcade mode, a desync(?) bug and something else involving bosses in arcade mode O_o.

I’m hoping they’re also working on fixing some of these glitches with the specials, though I don’t see any mention of it.

…the odd thing is that none of this stuff has happened to me in a network match yet. I got bugged a lot in practice and such, but never network. Maybe it doesn’t actually affect network O_o. It’d be nice if that were the case, because I don’t want to be caught with that invincible Utsuho freeze frustrated mentioned.

For the converter, just shut the analog button in the middle off. It’ll recognize the D-Pad then ^_^.

Glad you like it so far. It IS a very easy to pick up and play game. The difficulty is more in utilizing the characters correctly as opposed to executing their moves. The most execution heavy character in the game I’d say is Suwako, just because of her weird lilypad mechanic.

We should match sometime, either via IRC or AIM.

You know, I never really tried any Touhou game, but I think I’ma give this one a shot. It sounds pretty cool.

Oops, I thought it did. Oh well, just an excuse to link the wiki anyway.

I’ve tried that, it doesn’t work. A moot point for me now since I use a satapad, but back when I used a PS2 pad the analog toggle button didn’t do jack shit.

Weird, it works just fine for mine O_o. It was always the consistent solution to that problem. It must depend on the converter you’re using.

Well, there’s either Joy2Key or XPadder then.

Radiant: If you’re still having trouble getting Joy2Key to work, lemme know what’s going wrong and I’ll see what I can do to help.

Yeah it wont let me plug in my analogue sticks either but now that I think about it I think I know where an old stick-less Ps1 controller. Bet that will work. Must dig it up.

more fun with Reisen glitch.

It seems this happens when certain weathers appear just as reisen uses her 2C. It seems to happen randomly. This time it was Sandstorm.

On a related note: Fully upgraded Reisen rockets + 4 control rods + 3 potions = 3654 damage per rocket. Granted you aren’t going to get all of that off in one match, but that didn’t stop me from making a ‘chip damage’ deck with Reisen.

4 rockets, 4 control rods, 4 substitute dolls, 4 poison gas potion supers, 3 green drinking potion supers and 1 filler card (I chose health refil)

The aim is to get off rockets upgrades and control rod upgrades whenever possible (and the occasional potion) so that the rockets do great chip damage. Then fish for poison gas potions and knock down the opponent, use poison gas super and then try to keep them on the ground in blockstun for as long as possible. Reisen’s ground blockstrings are great and usually you can get 2 rockets off on one shield which is incredible chip damage + poison gas damage. The opponent isn’t safe even if they’re blocking. And it’s even more horrible when a rocket actually hits.

And I’m also upset that they nerfed mind dropping so that the bullet no longer hits, only the explosion.

I found my touhou bitch! Komachi is awesome, I love her j.2A. Also love how you can combo some of her supers off of 5AAAA.

But yeah I am really digging this game so far.

That’s a potion bunny for you O_O. I suppose the only problem is that the ideal upgrade is unlikely to happen in a match, but you at least have the poison to help zone the ground with. I’m stealing that deck to play with it :P.

Yeah, Mind Dropping is significantly less awesome this time around.

Komachi is awesome. Her slow spirit bullets and alt 236 are great zoning material and you can really screw with the opponent using them.

Glad you’re enjoying it.

Komachi can now heal herself with her new skill card and super. While attacking the opponent at the same time. I love it.

And yeah, potion bunny ideal upgrade rarely happens, but if you take every opportunity to activate either potions, control rods or rocket upgrades you find that her damage starts to soar.

Sometimes I dedicate the first match only to activating as many as possible. Even if I lose the first match it still allows Reisen to have a massive advantage in the second match. But you really need to know how to mix as many guaranteed rockets as possible into her blockstrings in order to play this style properly. Reisen’s close range pressure is fantastic so careful use of 66A and j.2A is important for keeping the opponent on the ground.

I’m also working on building a deck based around ultraviolet field. UV is really good in this game.

Ok…komachi vs utsuho i have no idea how to fight this match. Her bullets / lasers are flat out better than mine and her melee attacks beat mine out.

Is there some trick to this or do I just have to bite the bullet and counter pick them with utsuho and just out zone them?
