I guess ill be seeing you again ganelon =]

The game is still alive.
Tears of joy.

Man, I fucking love this game. I’m glad that it’s back. :bgrin:

Crossing all my fingers and toes.

fuck yes.

Hell yeah ST !!! Glad to hear this news. Tougeki remains supreme of all fighting game tournaments !

I’m so happy to read this. ST forever.

Time to practice up for the qualifier again! I hope its held again by DreamTR in Tenn.

Good shit! What are the odds of two teams going this year since last year’s did well? Yes I know we’re lucky to even get one team but I can dream!

Seconded. This year I’m just going to watch, though, assuming SBO qualifiers are held in Nashville again.

The Tougeki SBO 2011 ST qualifying schedule is up: ??? | ??2011 THE 9th ARCADIA CUP TOURNAMENT

Since ST is one of the 4 premier titles in Tougeki 2011 that have been announced at the beginning, there are 28 qualifiers in Japan this year (up from 15 last year). With the 3-on-3 team format, that’s 84 players, meaning pretty much every JP player that’s really good will make it to the final event day.

And since the quantity of teams in any Tougeki game is usually a power of 2 to complete the bracket, having 28 JP qualifiers seems to imply that there will be 4 international qualifiers. I’ve heard rumors of multiple US qualifiers already but we’ll have to see those come to light in the upcoming weeks or months.

Great news! How does this work? Do they contact arcade owners, or is it up to the people interested to contact Tougeki organization and pledge for a spot?

Edit: some Google translate stuff: Rules, Schedule (Ganelon has already translated, but w/e…).

From rules, I did not understand “Statutory system a second round game” and “? Characters Super Character and normal in the team can not handle the different character.” I suppose “Takeshi demon unavailable” means “Akuma (Gouki) is banned.” Anyway, would you please post a more adequate translation, when possible?

One thing I forgot to mention is there was also a Gian Recital qualifier last year and I believe that may have taken up one of the unlisted spots. And there’s also the last chance qualifier on the day of the finals. So that may mean only 2 international spots if the same will occur this year. FYI, Gian Recital 2011 is scheduled for 4/29 (ahead of the Tougeki qualifiers just like last year) and the link is at: ?W???C?A???T?C?^???Q?O?P?P

oldschool_BR: Tougeki sends out qualifier requests to arcades around Japan and interested arcades reply back. I’m not certain about international arcades but petitioning them for a spot works as I recall reading last year.

The regulations are really self-explanatory but for the purposes of completion, I can list them:

-3on3 teams
-1 game, 2 rounds
-Gouki is banned
-Old characters are permitted
-No duplicate characters on a team; old & new are considered different
-No changing characters
-1st players on both teams must be declared before playing
-RPS determines side before playing
-Turbo 3
-Everything else factory settings

These are the same regulations every year pretty much. The only part I’m confused about is that the rules always say that only the 1st player must be selected before playing and the US ST team was operating under that assumption last year, but we had to fill out a form with the complete 3-player order before we played.

Probably one US and one EUR spot. Still, consideration for a spot is great!

Gian Recital is now a confirmed qualifier for Tougeki this year. So as predicted, that leaves 3 unanswered spots remaining with 1 almost certainly reserved for last chance qualifiers.

A list of Gian Recital teams that have already officially registered can be found here: [?W???C?A???T?C?^???@?X?[?p?[?X?g???[?g?t?@?C?^??QX???@??T?C?g

Some tidbits about the teams so far:

-1st team is comprised entirely of character aliases from AC Japan ads
-4th team is comprised of 4 of the 5 Ouja (highest rank so far) and 1 of Mosa (2nd highest rank) in the danisen battles. The Japanese ST equivalent of the Yankees would be a fair analogy
-6th team has a “Mysterious Partner” o.Honda. It’s the only o.Honda on the list so far, hmm…
-Interesting “themed” teams with all Dee Jay, all Zangief, and all Hawk (N and O)

For those who weren’t around last year, the winning Gian Recital team gets to select 3 of its 5 members to become a qualifying Tougeki Super Battle Opera team.

I was thinking about that (but I don’t know shit about Japanese, I have used Google’s translator after having checked NH2’s blog). Tsuji’s and the char themed teams will have to drop one of the repeated characters, or pick the old one (which seems a risk for DJ, Claw and Gief). Even then, the themed teams will need another character. Has anything been said about this?

Nope, the Gian Recital rules don’t mention the Tougeki SBO selection process in any detail so it’s not clear what’ll happen if a themed team wins.

But speaking of the qualifier, one of the ironies last year was that Abebin made it further in Tougeki than his Gian Recital qualifying teammates despite not being selected to the qualifying team (the other was Shogatsu’s o.Honda, who didn’t participate at all).

Pony (Zangief), Atomic Boy [Toutanki] (Zangief), Kakky (Zangief), Aoki Cyclone (Zangief), Gunze (Zangief)

VIPER (T.Hawk), Yakitori (O.Hawk), Muro (O.Hawk), Shin (T.Hawk)

Im SOOOOOOOO looking forward to this
