I didnât mean to be an ass about it, I just donât like seeing the ST vs HDR pissing matches everywhere. VFâs post had some good points, if we like our respective games we shouldnât have to puff up our collective chests to tell the world why weâre so awesome.
For the record I love ST and HDR both, theyâre both excellent games. And with that Iâm not mentioning HDR in the ST forum again, back to the topic at hand:

Does anyone know if there is going to be any recording/streaming going on for the SBO quals? I wonât be able to make it out, but would love to see the action go down.

They have a similar discussion on HDR forum, if some OG can make a similar comparison and critism at hdr forum, why I canât do the same thing here?, just tell me, and i donât call them âthatâs patheticâ and i donât saying âif ST is still alive, why you come here and talk shit about HDR and evo?â

NKI, one of the most important people in the U.S. fighting game scene, starting a thread in the HDR forum about arcade ST versus HDR, is not the same as you, and several other uninformed SFII players who have very little ST experience, dropping into the HDR forum to bash ST either directly or indirectly. It is apparent that you do not have a solid understanding of ST, meaning you have absolutely no right to comment about the game, and not expect to receive a slew of criticism. If you want to talk about ST in an open discussion then that is fine. This is the ST section so have at it. If you have questions about ST then ask them and people will answer, myself being a likely culprit. If you want to talk about HDR then that is fine as well. Try to do it in the HDR section though.
What OG players drop into the HDR forum to bash HDR? Are you talking about NKIâs arcade ST versus HDR thread? Because implying that NKIâs opinions and arguments are âsimilarâ to yours is truly insulting. If you prove to have NKIâs knowledge of SSFIIX and can unleash a thread with argument like his then go head. But to imply that your arguments against ST are as good as NKIâs arguments against HDR, or any other OGâs, is just embarrassing. âSimilar comparison and criticismâ?
The fact that we have people who donât play ST and are fanatically pro-HDR dropping into this thread like the anti-ST police is just ridiculous.
The HDR discussion in this thread simply stemmed from people saying that HDR tournament results will not be indicative predictors for upcoming SBO qualifiers because HDR is not the same game as ST and HDR pad players will be immediately shut out from an arcade only tournament. Now a few HDR players of course panic and thought that those were veiled criticisms of HDR, they werenât, and went into damage control in a thread having almost nothing to do with âST versus HDRâ. No one was criticizing HDR in this thread but people were merely pointing out that ST and HDR are different and that pad players would have a hard time adjusting to arcade cabinets in such a short period of time.
ST is just as alive as HDR. If you add up the HDR players currently playing the game against the number of SSFIIX players in both arcades around the world and GGPO, you think that it wouldnât more or less be the same numbers? EVO had an ST side tournament and people playing ST day and night this year. Lots of people follow the Japanese SSFIIX scene from around the world. You think SBO is going to have an HDR side tournament? Or that the Japanese follow HDR at all? What point are you even trying to make? Maybe Iâm missing your point. Hell this thread, though miserably derailed like the train from Unbreakable at this point, is about ST SBO qualifiers in the United States showing that the game is still doing well enough to be featured at the biggest arcade tournament in the world.
No one here respects your opinion about ST though. I donât care if your tone is civil or hostile when you do is continually bash ST. If you came to this forum and threw down knowledge like Nohoho or NKI then people would swarm to your posts with tremendous levels of respect. But instead you criticize ST without actually playing the game. You talk about how you would like to balance ST like HDR, which means removing all of the old characters from the game. You donât firmly understand ST and you disrespect the game by saying that you could improve on it as if you were some expert who should be allowed to decide balance adjustments. Then you are dismissive of the opinions of better players when they point out flaws in your wanted change list. Then you start linking posts to Sirlinâs blog about how arcades are relics and that people should drop ST and play HDR on pads? This is treating the ST forum with respect?
You need to spend more time learning the game and playing it before you can begin to honestly criticize it. It is very evident that you simply do not have much experience with ST. I play ST for hours every single week. I probably watch more ST match videos than anyone on SRK. Yet even with all of my exposure to SSFIIX, I still have to ask Nohoho or Ganelon or Maj or NKI, questions about the game all of the time because there is always something that stumps me.
Seriously just play ST and youâll understand it more and appreciate it. Watch match videos. Ask a few questions here or there. But just play the game.
Please for the love of god can Taira qualify and get a bunch of matches on the DVDâŚ
