Tougeki/SBO 2009 Teams

i agree , i really don’t like that this was done. i think its pretty fucked up and selfish.

Fucked up and selfish? It’s not like anybody paid Justin’s airfare for him.

He won the tournament fair and square, and he lent prestige and increased attendance at the event just by showing up.

I can’t remember if it was last year or two years ago, but pinoAB7 and Hayao tried qualifying in Europe one year where supposed “weaker” players were. They won the casual tournaments, but when it came time for the SBO qualifier, Ryan Hart clinched the win for the spot. In the process, he gained some cachet for the UK 3s scene.

If somebody had sent Justin home with his tail between his legs, it would have been good for Europe. And it’s good for Europe anyway when top players from abroad visit their events.

Who was at the qualifier just curious?

Pino and Hayao didn’t try to qualify in France. And once again, JW and Marn did nothing wrong. But for us EU heads it would be better to preserve our spots & invite over american players, if we really want to step up our games.

Anyway, videos of the qualifier (some are quite awesome) here:

I think what JWong, Marn and Choi did was fine. If they hadn’t gone, then a less skilled European team would’ve qualified. Likewise, I think it would be fine if a Japanese team came to Denjin and beat all of our teams. SBO should be made up of the best current teams in 3rd strike; the best players are most deserving of the opportunity to compete (regardless of what country they are from).

Anyone wanna try qualifying over in Sydney?

Ryan Hart isn’t even the best player in his country any more let alone Europe.

damn i still remember when i saw Kx on the live feed

i think he shouldve taken urakens team out…he had soo many chances

oh well…SBO QUALS IS DAT WEEKLY FIRRAAAA

Thanks to yuuki for finding this but there are finally some videos from quals that got uploaded. I put up the finals on youtube.

This is the point that needs to be clarified:

Is that what they really want? Then why don’t they just look for teams within Japan?

I think it should be about represent your zone, no matter how far you can go in the actual tournament. This leads to real improvements because well, you don’t want your zone to be represented by people that don’t even know how to play the game, right?
And by the way, team EU wasn’t exactly raped last year and this year there were some great teams trying to qualify too. It wasn’t going to be a wasted spot.

Anyway, for next soccer’s World Cup qualifiers we’ll send some EU teams to get easy spots in the Asia block. Have fun :lovin:

Oh, thanks LBR!

Well to address what SBO “wants”: if they really had a probem with people qualifying in other countries, they would have made a rule about it or they would just disqualify JWong’s team from entering SBO '09 (and give the spot to the runner-up).

You think it’s supposed to be the fighting game olympics, I think it’s supposed to be the world’s strongest fighters tournament. We could argue back and fourth about this all day, but everything would just be speculation because neither of us actually knows the truth. It’s just my opinion that SBO should be made up of the best teams since it is the highest level fighting game tournament in the world.

Based on some of the responses Choi got about the whole PZ fiasco last year, I think it’s just as likely that they just don’t feel like following through on their intentions regarding non Japanese spots. I think we’d all be pretty surprised if they intended for SBO spots to simply be given out without any qualifier, yet it seems like they don’t explicitly ban it since it happened. But you are right, its all speculation in the end.

World strongest FT? No need to bother with other countries, european ones or US or whatever…

Other spots are here to add hype for all of us, gaijins.
Us team won european spot? I honestly don’t care at all, but i and probably most of all europeans players, also don’t care on their future win(lol)/loss during tougeki. That wasn’t the case on previous years…

VIDS! Matches from the D-6: 5/10 Pythagoras MQ qualifier.

Pino, Thanatos and Messatsu yarou as a team sounds pretty sick.

Thanks goes to Fran3s.

Thanatos (OR) and Sei (EL) won a preliminary and will be competing for the B-7 spot. http://www.tougeki.com/prelim?id=3333

Finally, the new report (http://www.tougeki.com/report?id=240) confirms atleast 4 teams that competed for a preliminary B-4 qualifier (I think they’re referring to this one ~ http://www.tougeki.com/prelim?id=3371):

In the semifinals, Rikimaru (CH) / Boss (Yun) / Momochi (Makoto) beats a team of Matsuken (KE) / Tackle Maeda (YU) / Nisshi (Dudley).

Mimora (Makoto) / Shuu (Akuma) / Kazuya (Alex) beats a team of Roshihikari (YA) / Naitsu (YU) / dirty ? (OR) with Mimora pulling a comeback - reverse OCV.

Rikimaru is too clutch apparently and beats that team; so Boss’s team wins the preliminary qualifier, and I think it says that they go on to sweep Tottori (RY) / Furo (YA) / d (DU) in the final SBO qualifier at Game Sakura. It’s not too clear who wins it all, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Boss’s team.

Momochi playing makoto seems weird, but he did play her at Cooperation Cup 7 against MOV, but not too sure how effective he was against anyone else. I guess whatever works for the team and that is Boss back to playing yun.

Matsuken (KE) / Tackle Maeda (YU) / Nisshi (Dudley)

will be a strong team, hope they qualify somewhere else

need to add Boss (yun), Rikimaru (chun), Momochi (makoto) to the B-4 qualifier spot

B-7: Ikego (EL) / Roku (KE) / Genki(AL)

http://www.tougeki.com/prelim?id=3850
Genki’s team beats Thanatos and Sei for the Club Sega spot, adding Elena and Alex into SBO :woot:.

cant believe people still complain about 3rd being yun/ken/chun only…

sick teams so far. hope thanatos and yarou qualify.

I only just noticed as I was going through the chart but Yamazaki was playing Makoto in March’s RanBat over at acho so maybe we’ll see him try and qualify without Twelve?

Good because his 12 is incredibly boring to watch.
