Tougeki 2012 qualifiers schedule and results

The guy can’t handle pressure despite playing in SBO since forever? Smh.

Double elimination. I think it sorts out the random and clutch factor better because it’s not over from a single match, it gives you more time to download your opponent and to determine who was really the better player.

It’s not that he has really much of a choice since almost all tourneys in japan are SE, so it doesn’t matter if he likes it or not. Most of the time he seems to rather play than sit it out, but I still think if it’s pressure that gets to him, DE would favor him better because of what I said above.

Being great players doesn’t mean you have to possess some trophies. You might saw many legends in sports that never won highest level tournaments (Zico, Cruyff… in football are pure examples). Fighting games share the same fact.

Where can we find a recording of the finals? I see nothing on youtube for the Third Strike portion.

Really, i have no fuckin idea on how you can be that sure about SE killing KO every year when other big names like Boss, Nuki, MOV, etc, are playing finals each year.
Maybe it’s cause, you know, they’re better or they are more comfy to pressure?
Being able (or not) to read opponent over one match is part of what makes a good player.

You remark reminds me 90% of the comments on eventhubs or shoryuken news…
I could say he lost cause he was afraid of MOV’s hat, that’d be just as much clueless as your initial assumption…

Finding this, while also avoiding results has been hard… but mission accomplished! Thanks!

In KO’s defence that hat was pretty terrifying

This was the absolute closest that KO has ever won SBO, back in 2005. He made ONE mistake in the 2nd round, and you can tell it affected him in the 3rd because Daigo killed him near effortlessly. He also almost didn’t even make it to Top4 in 2005 because Hayao humiliated him. If Kokujin wasn’t his teammate he would have been eliminated.

Not even factoring in Kuroda or MOV, look at Nuki and Boss, who won so many SE tournaments since the Gamers Vision and Game Newton days. They’ve only managed to win 3rd Strike SBO once and twice respectively. When you have the country’s best players gather up in a tournament and actually try to win at a grand stage with actual money on the line, anything is possible. Just the fact that Nuki, Boss, MOV, Kuroda, KO, Rikimaru and Kokujin even manage to make it to Top4 almost every single year should be a testament to their levels, despite being in such an unforgiving format.

I have completely no clue I have only two guesses
Maybe he was really hiding, or he was ashamed that his teammates carried him over and he didnt so well. I have no clue, but it would certainly help to understand what MOV said about Kuroda at the end, because I think he was saying something important to him

If anyone knows please let us know

If anybody captured the stream I’d be more than happy to translate.

He said single elimination killed KO.

5 hour something

3on3 single elim = 3rd STRIKE

Let’s let other games’ players say that single elimination is bad, please… #espooooorts

I haven’t slept in 2 days, just played and watched 3s, and it’s been totally worth it. Tougeki’s set up this year was a total failure, but 3s wise it’s been even sicker than usual!

Kuroda/Boss/MOV’s final words:
Kuroda: I lost every game, but my teammates won the tournament so I’ll let them enjoy the taste of victory.
Boss: In the end it was MOV who took it home for us, but I’m glad that we won. Thank you.
MOV: It was unfortunate for Kuroda, but he played seriously up until SBO time, not to mention he gave us his extensive knowledge and helped make the atmosphere great for all of us, so I think this was truly a team victory.

There’s nothing better than enjoying the 3s Tougeki Tournament while the sun sets in Japan.

Why do people complain about single-elimination for 3v3… 1v1, yeah, I could see that being quite disconcerting… But for a team game… It makes sense. It makes every match much more exciting and it requires the best out of every player. Also, it prevents sand-bagging and bracket manipulation.

Does anyone know what Kuroda’s team’s name was? Curious since all I could make out was Kuroda’s (something) female (something)

Kuroda needs a girlfriend

I know he immediately trolled him but what about #4 on the mic Kokujin!! Faking a tear up & cry.

Tokura laughing his ass off!!
"HAHAH!!"
Ah, well maybe it doesn’t need to be translated and be all literal and lose its original meanings.

but yeah, everyone can have sympathy for him if not empathy and being in his shoes (Team “Kuroda wants a GF…”)

I hope they’ll sell DVDs with all the recorded matches like previous years (not sure if there’re any ones in 2011 though).
I don’t mind buying 3rd Strike and AE2012 DVD (not hardcore at AE but really like GamerBee, dude is a nice guy :))

I doubt KO is THAT un-clutch given how good he is at 3S and that his teams have made semis/finals a bunch, but if he didn’t freak out about SBO at first, the fact that “The KO Curse” exists both in general and as a talking point in the 3S community has probably made it a source of stress, even if only a small one.

Glad 3S was back this year… look forward to watching the archive before the SBO suits find it and shoot their anti-hype rayguns at it.
