Tougeki 2012: 3rd Strike is BACK!

The trip to Japan isn’t that pricey if you really want to get the SBO experience. I highly encourage all 3s players to make the trip.

its a myth that hamburgers at mcd japan costs $45. they have a value menu! youll spend all your money on 3rd strike. unless you step your game up and get wins.

plus the exchange rate has been improving!!!

If you’re good at 3S and beat the Japanese does this get you free admissions to Soap Land?

I’m asking for a friend.

I wish. If you’re a gaijin and figure out a way into a soap land please let me know how you did it

Wait, it was gone?

I’ll try my hardest to go, I’ve always wanted to and it seems like my last chance haha.

Hopefully I can go a couple weeks beforehand or something so I can at least try to participate in qualifiers or something.

Gotta start mowing lawns to save up pretty soon haha

…this last year bro…

It would be nice if someone could say something about if and where europe quals will be held.

Now only if CvS2 will come back in the line up…

Yea. The deadline has passed a while ago. If nothing is already planned it looks like you guys will be in the same boat as us. :frowning:

Haven’t heard anything about Euro Quals guys, I’ll try and find out.

Round about how much does it take for airfare, hotel/lodging, and spending money? I’m just trying to get an estimate so I can make it out in the next year or two…

Eh. Idk about this… since mvc3 and sf4 theres been a pretty big pool of players winning majors compared to when the fgc was arcade only.

round trip ticket, arcade money, beer, housing, food, cigs, hookers, boss coffee… total it up

Say 1 week stay in Tokyo…

+$1000 airfare (everytime I’ve gone to Japan I paid $750~800)
+$300 for hotel (first time I went to tokyo I stayed in a place that was 25 bucks a night, and very comfy!)
+$400 spending money (imo 60 USD per day is minimum to be comfortable and have fun)

$1700 total. Obviously you can do it for a lot less if you get creative. Diligence pays off when searching for airfare and hotels.

I just read the soapland wiki… It’s like something someone would make up to conform with the Japanese stereotype of them being super creepy weird.

I’m really excited to see what the teams are going to be for 3s’s last stand at SBO.

That’s actually pretty cheap. The airfare is as expected but $25 a night at a hotel shocks me. You can’t find that in Manhattan, closest you could get is a hostel in a shared room for $50 plus $25 deposit. Unless you’re under 25 and can get into one of the homeless shelters for kids. Are you talking about those tiny rooms with a computer in them and no bed? I’ve seen in a Aljazeera piece on unemployment in Japan. Now with spending money are you counting tokens for arcades? Because you could eat pretty cheaply in Manhattan, there’s dollar menus at Mcdonalds and those $1 a slice pizza places at corners, you could live off $10-20 a day easily.

Yeah, Japan is a freaky place. I want to visit the spot where Kakihara and his crew stroll down the city in Ichi the Killer.

na the hotel was nice for the price. The room had a bed, a tv and a small closet iirc. Shared showers, bathrooms and kitchen.

And yeah, spending money includes…

-Arcade money
-Train/Subway fare
-Food
-Cigs/Beer

But I did eat a lot of mcd’s dollar menu (or 100 yen menu lol). I need to watch Ichi the Killer again, I wonder if I’ve visited there.

Ichi the Killer took place in Shinjuku, probably…I’m not too sure. I know it’s in Tokyo, but that’s way too vague an explanation seeing as Tokyo’s effin’ huge.

And yeah, you can find nice hotels that are very affordable if you look hard enough, and this isn’t just capsule hotels either. They may not be the size of a typical American hotel but if you’re staying alone/with someone else then it’s well worth it. If worst comes to worst, you can just find some manga internet cafe and sleep there for like 2000-4000yen a night(if you pay for shower and food, too). :stuck_out_tongue:

P.S.- Japanese McDonalds is dope, and not just for the 100yen menu. If you’re lucky, they may have some of their seasonal specialty burgers which are delicious.

I love Japan McD. I was under the impression that every month there is a new gimmick burger

yea im a sucker for the gimmick burgers.
