Differ Ariake was the best venue.
Gotta love the cube.
SBO looked incredible at Differ Ariake. If you watch the 2003 SBO finals and then go straight to 2004, you’ll see a huge difference.
I was fortunate to go to the last Tougeki held at Differ Ariake in 2008. It was amazing. Definitely the most intimate venue. JCB Hall was a lil too Hollywood. That was also the year SF4 came out so 3rd Strike wasn’t the main event anymore. I wasn’t really feelin Makuhari Messe.
Ok guys, I have some bad news. Well…it appears that no arcade was interested in having 3rd Strike quals for Tougeki. Super Arcade only wanted to hold SF4.
The requirements for holding a qual: Must be on arcade hardware. The arcade that is hosting must donate half of the teams airfare (roughly $1500).
The deadline has passed for applying to host a qual so America won’t have a spot this year. Super Arcades SF4 qual is pending.
With arcades struggling, it is understandable that they cant just throw down $1500. As a community, I don’t think it was realistic to fundraise $1500. I think we only had a couple weeks to make that kind of money, and I don’t see it happening.
I’ll be at last chance quals at Tougeki. I hope my team gets picked…
Man, that sucks. Disappointing to hear that America won’t be able to hold qualifiers for 3S.
Good luck, ryan. I’m sure you’ll find some good team members and qualify.
That sucks massive dick. Why not just pool it together across the whole community via some paypal donation thing then give that to the arcade so they’re technically funding it.
waht about arcade ufo in texas?
If we did that, I bet we could get maybe $200. And that’s if we are lucky.
UFO showed a little interest but did not commit.
The deadline has passed anyway.
Considering all the trouble SBO’s gone through last year(or past couple years, even), there’s less and less incentive for people to want to support it. People were willing to donate money to send our teams in 2008, but now that the rest of the world’s been upping their tournament standards, SBO just seems dated overall to a lot of people. It sucks, but that’s how it is.
Its so wack American tourneys are the standard now. 2 guys sitting so close together on some default hotel chairs. blah
People care so much about prize pots in America. Even though only like 5 guys consistently win.
Evo last year made me sick.
With all the money Capcom got from us for 3soe, they could easily have donated a measly $1500.
I wish we would have known about the $1500 earlier… Maybe we could have done something. The announcement was made on Twitter, but the only guy I know who has that is Rom.
Laaaaaaaaaaame. :<
Ah well. Hope you make it in Ryan and anyone else who ends up going for last chance quals.
If they don’t want to spend the $40K to patch a broken game that made them roughly 5 Million then they’re sure as hell not going to chip in $1500 for the community.
I just have a mental image of Capcom during the fall of Rome now. Ah well. Anyone know if Kuroda will participate?
Yo ryan - wanna team up? If there’s still time to make the last chance quals…
i already have a team in the works right now, but things might always change. you going to Tougeki this year??
Well holiday in Japan during tougeki is obviously the best holiday I could have… if you promise to take me to all the 3s hotspots as well as the ‘secret’ sessions before and after SBO, I may have to bring myself in
Yes of course man! Game Spot Versus is the premier spot these days. Takadanobaba Mikado can have good comp. It will be nonstop 3rd Strike!
I hope Tougeki is sometime in early August. I’ll be moving to Tokyo in late July \(^o^)/
better try and sneak some footage.
Is there a list for quals anywhere? Specifically for 3s, I mean… no US representation sucks, but I’ve been hype waaay too long for SBO3s. I mean if they have quals anywhere close (Brazil, anywhere in South America) I’m going to try and go.
lol if youre willing to spend the money to go to brazil you might as well go to japan for tougeki.
btw brazil doesnt have a qual.
That’s a good point too haha.
So anywhere outside of Japan/Europe(?)/Asia(?) does not have a 3s qual?
correct. and I havent heard anything about a european spot this year either. perhaps billykane will chime in if hes heard anything.
