Toronto blank box on sale

I just sent you a PM but im not sure if it when through.

It’s a great stick… did you still apply clear coating?

Can’t wait to get my case to start building my very 1st arcade stick

Hey Joe,

I sent you a PM.

What is the estimated shipping date?

Joe already posted that the ETA for 2nd batch is 1-2 weeks.

@nuropa
Have you finished you’re stick? What does it look like now? I’m asking because I’m planning with this faceplate, I want to know what does it look like with a button.

no, waiting for buttons. so looks exactly the same with 2nd clear coat added last Thursday. i’ll wait for parts to arrive before finishing it up.

Where did you order your buttons… just got mine last saturday from akihabarashop, I’m just waiting for my cases

did we ever find out what brand of primer was used on the boxes? i’m planning to pickup some paint this week.

it’s a professional brand… i don’t think it’s available in the stores

nuropa probably can help you out in the paint selection

Hey Joe…is it too late to cancel Primer?

you can always sand them off and apply your own.

I wanted to ask the same thing. After seeing the staining coming out the way it did on that Sagat box, I think I may go with a dark red wood stain instead.

If possible, please cancel primer on mine. I would love to get the USB cable/adapter as well. Sorry for the hassle!

If the changes are not possible at this point, no worries - I am still very much interested in purchasing a case regardless, so keep me on the list.

boxes expected this week… stay tuned

some guys dropped out… waiting list moved up to buyer list

some guys cancel primer… please check your status

Thanks for the positive feedback all, I feel special :stuck_out_tongue:

I used “MinWax Gelstain” (color was Mahogany) which you can pick up at HomeDepot / Lowes etc or even WalMart I would imagine. You basically apply it with a brush, wait 3 minutes, and take a clean rag and wipe off the excess. It is a bit tricky to learn to use at first, I would recommend practicing on a junk piece of wood beforehand. If you follow the directions on the can exactly, it can turn out pretty nice. I actually only ended up putting one coat on it, so I am either getting better with the application of this stuff, or it just was not necessary with the MDF. Basically with the Gel Stain, the more coats you use, the darker it will become.

I definately used a clear coat after the stain. Same brand “MinWax Polyurethane”. I already had the “Gloss” type as opposed to the “Satin” type, but if I were to do it again, I would go with the Satin. It look REALLY good before it completely dried, and the Satin gives it a consistent wet look.

Some suggestions for everyone…for application I used foam brushes as opposed to bristle brushes. Works well for this stuff and they are in-expensive. I do not recommend sanding between coats of the Polyurethane though, or if you do utilize a very fine grit paper (400 or over) and wet sand it. I started to use 220 and it was to harsh on it. And last but not least the entire box took the stain well with the exception of the top. The top was not sanded down as nice as the rest of the box, but I overlooked this before I started staining. This caused the top to be much darker, and it is pitted a bit. With this stuff, stain one side at a time, wait 3 min, do the wipe, make sure it looks ok, then begin on the next. If you take on too many sides at one time or try to do the entire case all at once, it will take longer than the 3 minutes, and your look will come out unbalanced. Dont be afraid to put some muscle into the wiping part, as long as you wait a few, it will only remove the excess.

If you mess up the stain, just sand it down again and start over, or you can always use paint

Just as a side note, this MDF turned out much better than the Poplar case I did a couple of weeks ago. I attribute much of this to the build quality and sanding already done on the case. The size is great and the 6 button layout I use is great. I was worried that I would not like the 2 plugs, or that the 6 I use would be too close to the joystick, but that’s not the situation at all. I also currently have snap-in buttons in it, and did not mod the case in any way. They are in there nice and firm, so I’ll probably just leave them in until they loosen up and require the screw-in’s. It’s amazing the difference between the happ parts i’m used to and the Sanwa stuff. Of course I still suck at SF :stuck_out_tongue:

The one thing this case does not have is a outlet for the USB Cable :frowning: Sounds like Joe is addressing that issue though.

If I were to buy a 3rd case I would have to go with one of these. Good stuff.
