Joe, just want to say you did a great job. I would like to commit to one but due to the shortage of parts, I’m not sure if the timing is right.

I hope to see you do another run though… hopefully there will be enough demand for them because you really did put a lot of work into it and it shows.

I am picking up the Happ compatible box prototype tonight… hopefully it will be smooth sailing since it’s easier build than the jlf/ls32 one

there are a few people that think i am making big profits on these cases… truth be told, i am barely breaking even on it…

it cost me $75-$80 an hour for the CNC guy and time on the machine to prototype the box… spend about 8-10 hours on the job… then i have to contract the carpenter to do the assembly and i have to buy boxes, pack them and ship them…

there was also extra time spent going back to the prototype to rearrange the button config and the support LS32… something that was very last minute but was not rushed in quality

the primer was done in a professional paint both and guys who picked it up locally can attest to the quality of the finish

it’s been a good experience being the middle man… but i would rather give it up than stand accused of “ripping” you guys off

My brother was big into RC Cars and he made these test stations out of project boxes. The demand was huge and he didn’t make money off them. He just did it because he liked the hobby. Well, after a while, the haters came out and accused him of being too expensive or stealing someone elses design, or whatever they could come up with. He sold a shit ton and eventually stopped because the work wasn’t worth it for all the grief he received.

I would keep making your boxes if only for the fact that people do appreciate your work and let the community handle the tards. You should call them out on the forum and embarrass them.

I have to agree with everyone. Dont feed the haters. If people are sending you angry PMs just ignore. I really think your price is right , and i think you could increase it a little bit since there are some many people on the waiting list(including me).

I really wish there is another run for the jlf/ls32 box. If not , i understand because its a lot of work for little money.

first he wants me and the wood worker to work for nothing

then i told him, fine, if you can make them for cheaper i buy them and just ship them to you guys

then he comes back and up charges people… nothing against that… but why diss me in the beginning

my offer / challenge to him still stands… but he changed the terms and claims I made it unfair for himm…

metal working is simpler than wood… metal is never crook… i have contracted guys to put in chrome molly roll cages in cars before… not like i haven’t looked at that route

I could have sworn I saw a post where he claimed that but I might be wrong. Then again people were calling him out on his shipping/pick up fee. Didn’t infamouskid call you out before on this and say if you weren’t making money then how were you able to offering him a cheaper price than your final set price of $80 for your cases? He even posted up what you were going to charge him if you were to supply the cases to further prove his point. I believe your response was because your time and gas to meet each individual person had to be compensated. I’m sure your CNC setup costs have been accounted for even at the lower price you quoted infamouskid. I know you claiming you are not making money but don’t tell me you are in the business to be losing money. He even suggested if you aren’t profiting then sell your cases to the public for that price too and I haven’t seen you do that.

I’m not trying to raise trouble here but again I just want to point out that no one unless you are Mother Theresa does anything for nothing. I know for a fact that infamouskid has a family and two kids and just having a daughter myself recently any time I have to spend with her is very precious. Tell me otherwise then I guess you don’t have any kids or you would rather make money than watch them grow up. For the record, no personal attack at anyone here but please stop making it seem like this is all being done for everyone else’s good except your own is all I want to say.

do you know how much i have to pay the guy to setup the CNC machine? standard rate is $75 / hour… spent 8 hours to come up with the prototype… i am not a saint but i have to recoup that cost from somewhere… i am already starting the next CNC setup for happ sticks… again that’s going to cost more money…

So instead of having to drive around town why not offer a $70 pick up price then? Not trying to be a smart ass here but if I was trying to figure out my costs and break even point what you are saying doesn’t make sense to me.

• $75 x 8 hours = $600 for CNC setup
• split that between 30 cases for this first run makes an average cost of $20 per case pushing your cost to $60 assuming your $80 RETAIL price.
• is there $60 worth of wood in such a small empty case? probably not, but I know the next argument is going to be your time involved in collecting all the dimensions (aka searching SRK forums :razz:) and giving this to the woodshop (aka driving there or placing a phone call).

Based on what I know so far I think you are easily recouping your costs but you make it sound like you are barely breaking even yet you are setting yourself up for another run. Come on now…

again you have not factor in the labour cost of putting the boxes together, you are just counting material cost

do you go to mcdonalds and pay only for potato when you buy french fries?

if you think you can make them for less money at the same level of quality, i will buy 50 of them from you … let me know, i don’t want to have to deal with going back and forth to get the design changes, etc… to accomodate the ls32, etc

There are other labor costs to consider, glue, sand, prime are all additional work required to put the box together. he also paid pay more to make it work with Seimitsu LS32-01 stick. Plexiglass top is not free either. Let’s all drop this please, no point of arguing.

every seller has to make some sort of profit to cover all operating costs.
it’s not a crime to make a small profit. i think both tuyen and joe reserve that right for the time and effort being put in. i mean when we look at a car or a house we dont look at the cost of the product to make we look at the value and price tag.

Here are some progress pics of what I have been working on since you made me this offer. I don’t know all the details or the final cost but I think we might be able to work something out if you can commit to 50 pieces.

if you can get this box 90% finished (if you look at mine, the primered ones are good enough to leave as is), maybe powder coated at less than $70 i can probably use them

Now at the price Joe I would be making no money and possibly even losing money cause I don’t know my final costs yet. Unlike you, I don’t have the time to be doing all this for “free” and I have a family to support so I need to make a little for myself. I said the price will be competitive with wood, not beat it. Let’s face it, we are not comparing a wood case to another wood case, this one is made of metal so costs will be different. The machines and tools used here require skills and years of experience to perfect unlike wood where any DIY weekender can just buy a bunch of tools and make it themselves. Unless you happen to have these tools lying around. Most people who don’t probably won’t have any other use for them besides making this case. So spending all this money on a saw, router and drill bit accessories would not be worth it and they would be better off buying a ready made solution.

So far I have been quoted around $18 per box to powdercoat, so your price of less than $70 is a bit low and I don’t see you unloading your product at this price on here and SRK, so why should I take such a huge hit? I could try my best to aim for this price but I don’t want to kill the overall market and piss other people off in this line of business by making them work for nothing. Funny how you mention that if I can do it for less than $70 you can use them. What are you going to do with 50 cases? You will most likely flip them for a profit like you are with your wood cases. Even if that is your intention that is fine with me, no need to disclose your costs so everyone knows. I don’t think Infamouskid meant to call you out before and let everyone know you offered your cases to him at a lower price. I think he wanted to point out you are making money off this but still to this day you are denying it and your only defense is you are personally dropping off these cases to people so there is your added cost of gas and time. Again this is far from true since you are having people come pick them up from you at your desired meeting locations.

This price I’m quoted could change depending on how many I take to this supplier and I haven’t really shopped around so someone could offer to do this cheaper. The reason I chose metal is because I have a family member that is in this trade and I knew he would be able to turn things over quick. He told me for him to turn around and make 30 boxes it should take him about 3-4 days himself. This is also assuming he isn’t backed up with work from his full-time job and his side jobs.

i am not a skills tradesman so i can find a metal contractor to do it… all i do is find the right people to do the job, setup the contracts and make the initial up front cost… recoup the costs over the box sales… last time by my calculations i am at break even

people who know me personally know that i am passionate about my hobbies and i don’t really need to do box sales to make a living… so i am not running it like a business but more as a service to SRK… something you still refuse to believe
