if there is a market for custom curved boxes machines out of a solid block of hard wood, I will definitely entertain that market… but right now I think the demographic is asking for generic boxes to get started…

NICE, i prefer the TE layout too~
if you make them, count one for me~ i wanna one~(i’m in toronto too)
I’d give you the money right now for a 6 button one. Min 6 buttons on the top, 2 on the back(3 on the back is fine, would prefer 30mm holes for all) and a notch for the wire. I would also bite for an 8 button if the two extra holes can support button plugs(I guess I could always glue them in…). Do you have an estimate time frame on when your going to have some to sell? Can I get in on a mailing list or an early pre-order list right now?
I live in Newfoundland and have full Sanwa parts that I can put in the thing right now.
As for the other things, sounds great, but I like the screws. I’d rather have the screws then just the buttons holding it down. And for the layout I like the inner(curved) layout on the Mad Catz sticks. Go with that one and I will just plug the 2 extra holes.
I’d pick 2 if they were like the TE layout but with only the 6 buttons on top (same as the TE just without the 2 right most buttons), the home, select, start buttons at the top back side, and the extra 2 buttons on the right side.
I’m in the Scarborough area, so driving up to Markham ain’t a problem, and I don’t mind paying in cold cash for these
I don’t suppose you can do them with Competition joysticks, with Happs Horizontal buttons? I dunno I somewhat prefer the American competition joysticks and buttons over the Japanese ones… but if I do have to go with only Japanese I’m fine with the Sanwa parts.
Let me know, I’m quite interested, as I’m like about to place an order with arcadeinabox but I’m not sure what the wait time is on them which is one of the reasons why I haven’t ordered yet. I might be interested in 3 in total if I can get the specs I want.
Material on one of these runs under $30cad, where’s the $30-50 coming in if these are being contracted?
Labour costs and some incentive for him too. I think the price is reasonable.
Another vote here for 6 Hole pattern. The one complaint I have about the Norris Cases (http://www.norrisarcadesticks.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=DIY_100_C), is that the Joystick looks like it is too close to the front of the case for my taste…I prefer it lower in relation to the buttons. Here is a layout I would personally prefer:

30mm Holes.
Norris style with that layout would be pure sex.
agree with all of this.
Hell, the MDF in small amounts would cost $5 and the plexi about the same (based on my trip to the hardware store 2 weeks ago for stuff for my own stick) But just because you’re paying $10-15 for materials, somebody has to actually go buy the stuff, get the designs in the CNC, have the person cut them out/assemble them, ship them out, machine wear, etc. And thats not counting the fact that they actually HAVE the machine in the first place. If you don’t think that’s worth an extra $10-15, go do it yourself.
I’ve got the tools and I love building stuff, but $30-50 for a nice custom box? That’s a hell of a deal in my books.
If you had them already I would have bought one :-P. I’m working on my own though and bought enough wood to make about 3.
Not an extra $10-15, he’s saying $60-80 for a box. $30-50 would be reasonable. I was just wondering where the cost was coming in since I’m assuming for any place to touch something like this they’d want a minimum order, and a bulk amount being done at once means less labour and lower cost. Just thought $60-80 sounded high considering that.
There is no competition in T.O. and I think there is a huge market.
For the PS3 anyways, there are no HRAP3, FS3, TE, SE, “Finkle has a gigantic wait list” and “not everyon knows is adept at working with wood” <- that would be me LOL. So unless someelse is going to step up. It is totally reasonable.
And quite honestly, I think if the US dollar remains strong and sillypuddy comes up with are great product there will be plenty of request from the U.S. too. 60-80$ CDN is not alot in USD right now.
The time is right.
yeah, honestly i’d pay like 75 USD shipped for one of these, that’s about the price Norris does them but there’s less hype.
srs bank to be made here.
I was expecting people to come and thread crap on this. Do you walk into McDonalds and tell them that a 10lb bag of potato cost $3 and they are overcharging for french fries?
Have you ever gone to any vendor and contract them to do work on your behalf? even if I don’t cover my time and effort, you think the wood working company will volunteer their time and effort so that you can lowball me on the cases? How does making more boxes equal less labour? I am not paying some punk kid to make these, they are professional cabinet makers.
In all seriousness, if you think it’s overpriced, there are 15 other people that will find it a bargin. I didn’t need this hassle, I was just trying to kill two birds with one stone… making boxes for me and my friends and then sharing the reminder with the community. I can easily pay more and have them make less boxes and save them for my friends and not put them up here for sale, not like I need it as my job here
norrisarcadesticks.com charges $60-$80 USD plus shipping… I don’t see you going over to his thread and complaining…

Any clue on how long it will be till you start making the cases?
anyways, i will try to ignore these stupid comments about pricing… if you don’t agree with my pricing then just go and build your own or pay more money…
================
I just received my HRAP3 and was playing SFIV last night… I didn’t really like the layout (8 buttons all curved) I am having second doubts on the fully curved layout
in the same box I got 8 white snap on buttons which I will send to the cabinet maker today to check for fitment and offset issues… I am still in need of a sanwa joystick and screw on buttons for fitment testing… pm me your contact info if you can help me out.
I talked to the cabinet maker about 6 vs 8 buttons… we will initially do a run of 8 buttons and offer the option to drill more holes on the side of the box (easier) and you can use block outs to close off the 2 extra button holes on top…
if you can wait, we will do a small run with 6 holes after the first run is done.
in terms of making boxes for happ parts… let me look into it… you are the first to ask about it and I need to investiage the time / effort…
-joe
the first box is done, just waiting for parts to test fitment and also solve the plexi mounting concerns… then it will only be about a week to do the first run since most parts are CNC
I am also getting a lot of PMs about complete sticks… if any of you guys want to partner up, you guys can handle the painting / assembly etc… while I deal exclusively with case building
-joe
awesome dude. For 60$ id totally pick one up. id much rather a 6 face button case. So i could wait for a 2nd run… … man… awesome. saves me the time and effort of making my own this spring. I could see this working out well for you.
i like 8 buttons layout~
for the side, i think 3 is enough~
so, how do you count for pre-order?
yo,
i would be interested a eight button lay out. When you get start.
