I have something a lil similar. I usually kara throw a neutral grab in the coner then down lp -> wiff slap -> whatever type of grab you want. I use the neutral kara throw because its faster than the wall throw. Try messing around with that. Could be useful against inexperience players.
Yes it works, my terminology is rather shoddy so maybe i’m not explaining it right though.
try crouch jab. Crouch jab buffers pretty much into everything.
yes, it was crouching jab, now that i think about it.
Just wanted to add a set-up for the 360/720, found this out from Billykane who saw a jap player do this while he was in japan.
Basically, after a fierce clap>medium clap on crouching opponent> 360/720. Since they expect the 3rd clap or a fw MP you have a small opportunity to walk up to them and land a grab on them. I’ve yet to put this in to a vs match tho since, a) I never use HP clap, and b) I haven’t practiced enough to get the MP clap on reaction :o How about set-ups for the HP clap? Or is it just to obvious and easilly parried? I dunno :bluu: I wish there were more set-ups
Are the claps designed to be unpredictable. For instance using a LP clap when a downed opponent is getting up is a common move used by Hugo and because the opponent will be anticipating this and ready for a parry they will be waiting for the light punch clap timing, but if you make it to a HP instead their parry would be off time and therefore they would be hit by the clap.
Parried Clap -> 720 & Jumping HP -> 720
Just letting you guys know that because of this thread I won a couple of matches during the weekend using the parried clap into 720 trick.
Also just to pass on, jumping forward fierce punch that misses a standing opponent and gigas when Hugo lands has always been the most common way I end up hooking a 720. (although it sounds really jabroni.)
720 is a bit easier to do if you stay inside the joysticks range of motion ie: don’t have the joystick pushed as far as possible to the outside, try and keep it from touching the outside but still have it detect the movements, it decreases the rotation time it takes to pull 540 off.
Just remember to start at forward/back and finish at forward/back, 3S is alot more stringent about 360 motions than say, A3.
Of course it takes practice and some familiarity with the joystick you are using.
BTW how come there are no good Hugo vids out there? 90% of the matches are of Hugo getting owned by some other character, and the vids that are decent are inside a 300-400 meg file! It’d be nice if I didn’t have to download that much for 1 or 2 matches.
just for reference, what is the alternative, non spinning fast method of the standing gigas?
From what I’ve read, the 540.
360 + HCB or HCF, basically…fast.
How I did the standing 720 for the first time yesterday.
I gave my friend the car bonus stage and I jokingly said “do standing gigas” . He then did it straight away!
After watching his technique I tried it for myself on my next game (I suggest practicing on the car bonus stage so you don’t get distracted by an opponent.)
What I did: Walk backwards (it seemed to work better when I walked backwards for about 2 or 3 steps) then quickly walk forwards and use the forward point as the starting point for the 720. (or 540 or whatever.) You must complete the motion while hugo is switching frames from walking backwards to forwards.
Thinking about it now, it would probably be more useful (in a match) to walk forwards first then go backwards.
Ssongro: plz check your PM.
Hugo Victory story
Although this probably isn’t about Hugo strategy it seemed like the best place to share my victory with Fellow Hugo players.
The other day I reached the pinacle of my Hugo playing career - I got 17 straight wins against various players (mostly Ken pickers) who I have challenged in the past and lost. And I finished the same game with a grade of S+ I actually entered my name at the end of that one…it was a good day.
A true Tachi Gigas Beast!
Which this vid ya’ll!! Just look at the amazing comeback in the first round…that’s patience:
The download is under the heading “YSB = Tachi Gigas Beast!”.
Wow, YSB = too good.
Hrm… is that first tachi gigas a partitioned one?
It amazes me how he gets the 360+k to work so freakin’ well… and the fact that his comp never seems to stop LK > clap. My idiot scrub friends always hit/parry/whatever the clap… what the hell am I missing?
Dope vid regardless, Y.S.B. vids are way more entertaining that yet another Yun or Ken match IMO.
For anyone still having trouble with the standing Gigas technique this may help:
Yesterday I got the method DOWN! I landing about 5 or 6 standing gigas on the computer, mostly when they were just getting up but I got a good one on a stunned Remy!
If your arcade has lollipop joystick this will be A LOT easier. Same technique as before - Walk one direction then quickly change to other direction and 720. It may help if you imagine it as Sonic Boom straight into 720. BUT I found that if I put my index or middle finger on the actual metal part of the stick I got more control and a faster spin. This ended up helping me A LOT for the standing 720s.
Yeah I seen that vid, was he using an american stick or a japanese one (lollipop) cause doing a tachi on a japanese stick is way fucking easier not that im hating on YSB.
Speaking of American sticks, I was wondering why it is that they are still in use, surely the jap sticks are more ergonomically friendly anyhows and allow better control?
I’m havin trouble on landing a standing one, I read whiff a LK while doing a 360, then walk up and do another 360.
