With Quick Work you can extend combos by doing M Smart Bomb + Quick Work, H Repuslor Blast xx Spread, H Smart Bombs xx hyper in the corner. You can also call Quick Work with c.H xx unfly to catch people. Its also good because all Iron Man’s good shit is overhead and you can throw it in attack strings to open people up.

I want to talk about air to airs. In theory they are really good but I have trouble landing them in matches. I think the way I try to confirm them, by doing j.H xx ADF xx Fly might be sub-optimal. It works from far away but if I get a close j.H hit it doesn’t work (I should do j.S xx ADDF at that point). Or maybe cancelling j.H straight into fly is your best bet. Basically when you are trying to challenge someone with air normals and the whiff something like Photon Shot or Magnetic Blast do you prefer to try to hit them with sj height j.H the ADDF or ADDF THEN hit them?

Joker’s air to air may very well be the best and most consistent, but I’m really curious what other people are using. Smacking people with giant ass normals in the air is one of the only things this character has going for him so I’d really like to be able to kill off them.

Thanks for the tips, I’m surprised there isn’t more tech out there with low hitting assists for tony. As far as air to airs go I use jokers due to its easy and damaging and doesn’t take much execution. I’m pretty consistent with the first part (j.h, j.dh, add j.h), but I have trouble with the follow up j.h ( I keep getting j.u H), j.dh, j.s, j.m, j.m, d.h, s, air series. I was wondering if this is the most optimal follow up after sj. H, dh, add jh.

Depending on spacing or movement options I used in the air already, I start by either doing j.(8)H xx Fly, j.H xx Unfly or j.H xx ADF, j.M, j.(8)H xx Fly. I then go a jump loop similar to KK combo into launcher.

for normal jump hit confirm i do the same as the smart bomb reset. but if im really looking to get a normal jump hit confirm i just go for his jump loop. jump mmdhs . you can even do jump h addf LH land jump loop but its not really good still gota be hella close but its a option maybe in the corner.

Throwing air Smart Bombs at sj height: yay or neigh? I’d like to think you should be doing this before ADDFing with Iron Man because you really need to make them block something. You can combo off them from really high heights too IF they hit. I’d like to find a way to throw them just at sj height where the opponent can’t see their character so you can throw off their advance guard timing. Also maybe throwing two or three waves of (L or M) bombs before trying to approach. I’m not sure if flying and throwing two waves of bombs, unflying and throwing another one before ADDFing and going for an overhead or low would be good, it seems decent enough but you have to be wary of air grabs like always. I never use H Bombs because its way too slow and you will get air grabbed, L and M protect you from that a bit if they hit you get an air to air combo sometimes. How do you guys use this move, if it at all?

Air Smart Bombs seem good in matchups where the opponent doesn’t have a teleport or a super that covers space above them very well.

edit: and then I play and get air thrown for even attempting air Smart Bombs, and all this shit goes out the window.

Wow impressive! How much damage does it do? I think I’m going to make this my Bnb due purely on how cool it looks, only problem is I always have trouble with add, j.h… I keep messing it up with j.dh.

Smart Bombs, yes, definitely. All smart bombs have the same recovery and you can still use H.Smart Bombs to confirm into a combo like the weaker versions, just expect the damage scaling to be all the way up.

The way how I setup my air to ground with smart bombs with with use of an assist. Any assist that can hold them in place while you take off into the sky is a great asset(preferably an assist that does NOT knock down the opponent since it allows them to escape this type of offense and possibly take advantage of the situation). It takes away any need to worry about being grabbed while trying to set up the offense. Most of the time I use j.M as the overhead instead of j.(2)H since it can still hit the opponent so late in the air dash while still having amazing range; by time you’re so low with the air dash the opponent is already expecting that you missed your opportunity for the overhead and is looking for the low(You can still confirm into this after smart bombs). Eventually, regardless of whether smart bombs hit the opponent or not they will continue to block high(due to the extremely low overhead) which opens up the mixups.

With Doom Missiles you can actually do a similar setup with just super jumping, omitting the smart bombs and following after the doom missiles. Other assists that work to hold them in place: Sentinel Drones, Spitfire Twice, Shopping Cart, Shield Slash(doesn’t necessarily hold them but makes them afraid to move), Weasel Shot, Senpu Bu, and possibly more. I tried to name any assist that can be used from at neutral or mid-range. Anything that requires close/point blank offense might as well do a high/low right in their face.

I’m starting to wonder if other assists can be used that covers a particular space and puts the opponent in a particular state(such as wall bounce or hard knockdown) while jumping like log trap or vajira, giving iron man a combo opportunity regardless of where the opponent is hit by the assist giving him more options with the SJ offense…

That’s definitely good advice. However I play Iron Man anchor so I don’t usually have any assists, and if I do they are Quick Work and Double Lariat because IM got snapped in. Lariat is good for confirms and TACing Haggar back in but I don’t have anything to hold them in place.

I probably want to be throwing SB much further away so I don’t have to worry about people dashing under and air throwing me. At least in LVL 3 X Factor You don’t have that problem because the bombs are so fast.

Smart Bombs are really risky without assist cover and you need to be super careful with them. Converting an air to air off an air Smart Bombs is a pretty fucking awesome feeling though.

On another note its good to see these boards so active. Our community is very small and I’m the only Iron Man (or Haggar, or Deadpool) so usually when I want to run something by someone boards are usually my only option.

I feel like Iron Man should be played more grounded as anchor with XFactor. Play something like guile with annoying them with (j.)L Unibeams and getting strong reads off their jumps and anti-air them with a combo or repulsar blast. With the speed boost sudden dashes or air dashes for offense with his 11 frame stop seems nulled. Then once they respect the ground game to try Smart Bomb offense.

Something worth noting: At mid-close range with XF3, you can follow up normal jump height smart bombs with iron man air dashes, but it’s still difficult(more than likely unpractical).

I play Iron Man on point with Doom(Missiles)/Rocket Raccoon(Spitfire Twice). I do plan to replace RR with someone else because I’m terrible with him, but he works so well with Iron Man, haha. I would like another assist to provide that horizontal utility but also be able to DHC with no problem from Proton Cannon. I guess its time to pick up Dante…

I’m running X23(AS/CS)/IM(RB)/RR(Pendulum). Any chance you know any tech/combo extensions/etc with IM and log since you play him with RR?

You can call Pendulum while jumping around in normal jump height and raining down smart bombs. The assist is following up after you throw out Smart Bombs to covert into a combo. Dash over to the wall bounced opponent and start a jump loop into a combo. (Call A2) j.Smart Bombs, (wavedash), j.M, j.M, j.2H, j.S, LAND, j.M, j.M, j.2H, j.S, LAND, cr.M, st.H, S, “Magic Series”, H.Smart Bombs xx Proton Cannon deals around 690K and builds 1.15 bar

During the jump loop you can always drop it midway through and attempt an air reset.

Pendulum also helps out with iron man combos in general like other assists so he can do Repulsar Blast in the end of combos.

Again, all credit to DuckStrong. Anyway, it does 483k before any type of ender. To the best of my recollection, H Smart Bomb will do 43k at that point and Proton Cannon is 202k minimum or something. So, we will say 730k or so for one meter.

I’ve been trying to use Pendulum for combo ender extension, but I haven’t been able to get it to hit after a full KK. Is there a better air combo option that will let me hit the ground a bit earlier? It feels like I’m just not able to wait long enough to use SB from the normal MMHdHS so they’ll tech before log actually hits.

Kind of the same topic, what’s the trick to getting double RB enders?

And last question, anyone know any relatively safe ways to juggle assists with IM? Log does a good job of sniping assists but I didn’t know if there’s a particularly safe way to capitalize on it since you can’t do a braindead OTG super with him.

what projectiles can the Repulsar Blast take out? does it need Spread for durability?

Seeing the Morrigan infinte kind of makes me wonder if Iron Man has anything like that. I think all his specials have hitstun scaling/ don’t have set hitstun so probably not.
